The Glass Slipper Conspiracy

Rate this book
Saving a Princess, rescuing a kingdom from an ambitious and wicked mage and helping a pair of lovers to stay together should have been the hardest thing William Tenys ever did….

And now the kingdom of Altria’s premier detective is ready to rest on his laurels and start investigating things like missing jewelry and cheating spouses. But the wicked never sleep, so William discovers when he is hired by a desperate young lady to investigate, of all things, a cobbler creating high class shoes.

Everyone knows that a young noble lady needs just the right things to make her happily ever after come true, but this particular lady seems to be attracting all the wrong luck. Now she has a dress that should have been made from silk-but instead proved to be linen-jewelry made from fool’s gold and painted glass and worse of all, shoes made from a material that looks like glass, but proves to be nearly fatal when worn. And she’s not the only one or the last one to be struggling to find her Happily Ever After in the Kingdom of Altria….

I'm a freelance writer/instructor currently living in north-central British Columbia. I also enjoy playing video games (particularly RPGs and tactics games like Fire Emblem as well as the Mario/Kirby games), reading, hiking, taking care of animals, and shopping (on occasion). I would love to someday be able to make a full (or nearly full) living purely from writing fiction, but at least I'm fortunate enough to be able to work as a writer at all at this point.

The Glass Slipper Conspiracy is a darker twist on the classic fairy tale story of Cinderella, as a pair of glass slippers attempt to kill, rather than to help a young noble find her happily ever after. Following the success of his previous case, protagonist William Tenys, is hired to investigate the evil slippers and solve other strange happenings that are all somehow connected. Who or what is behind them?

Another easy and enjoyable read from Author Charlene Mattson. Readers may find the pace a little slow to begin with, but the story soon gathers momentum, and introduces some interesting characters including a potential love interest for William. Again the size of the text could prove an issue for those who have challenging eye sight and I do recommend that the author does some further formatting work to address this. Other than this, there were no significant issues that would detract from the story or spoil the readers enjoyment. Overall this novella is an entertaining read and brings something that little bit different to its audience. We award 4 stars.

As soon as I finished The Curious Case of Prince Charming (The Fairy Tale Case Files #1) I jumped right into this one.

I'd enjoyed meeting William Tenys but wanted to know more, and this volume brought a lot of insights into his background. This helped make sense of some of his attitudes and decisions. I also enjoyed getting to know more about Altria, as the new case takes place all over the city, from the royal palace to the dregs of cheapside. I enjoyed watching William become more confident, even though it doesn't always pay off (this is a fairy tale, after all).

Now I'm off to find volume 3!

I wanted to read this book since I heard it was being written and it didn't disappoint. From deadly slippers to questionable merchants to mischievous beings, the fairy tale detective William Tenys has his hands full living up to the gossip about him that the princess is spreading. Fortunately the damsel in distress is willing to lend a helping hand along the way. The reader is there to enjoy the ride.
The first book in the series had some formatting issues, but the publisher has fixed those for this book making it easier to read. All of which leave me waiting for the next book.

William Tenys is at it again, solving a tangled new case every bit as good as the first. I read the whole book in one day and can't wait to own my own copy.

This is Book 2 in the Fairy Tale Case Files. William Tenys has solved the crime of a kidnapped Princess, reunited her with her parents and made it so she can marry her true love. It’s an HEA – but in the detective world there is always evil afoot. His latest case is about merchants and craftspeople who are selling items of clothing that appear cursed: slippers that ruin the dancer’s feet, costly material that turns unto plain linen, and jewelry that’s obviously fake. Through all his misadventures trying to find who is selling fake and dangerous items there’s a small dog that “adopts” the detective. As the mysteries deepen the dog becomes a connection – but is it really a dog? In the meantime, he falls in love but his intentions don’t lead to his own HEA. It’s a bittersweet adaptation that has just a tiny bit of Cinderella’s glass slipper in it – just in the back ground I am looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

“The Glass Slipper Conspiracy” by Charlene Mattson is the second book in the Fairy Tale Case Files! I picked up this dark fairytale/mystery story after I read and loved the first in the series, ”The Curious Case of Prince Charming”.
Detective William Tenys is on a new case involving cursed clothing and items being sold around the Kingdom of Altria. While reading, I found myself investigating along with him and a new character, Farrin- eager to discover who was the villain behind it all.
There’s plenty of intrigue, adventure and love packed into this book. I couldn’t stop turning the pages! William Tenys is one of my favorite characters and I can’t wait to see what he’ll be up to next. I want to read every book in this series… and then I’ll beg Charlene to keep writing more!

Princes Leticia is kidnapped again! This is the second installment of the William Tenys adventure (the first is The Curious Case of Prince Charming). Mattson weaves another hysterical adventure as Tenys tries to solve another case.

When Princess Leticia is kidnapped for the sixth time in two years, private investigator William Tenys is hired by her parents to solve the mystery of how sorcerer Kalen has managed to commit the dastardly deed so many times. It should have been a straightforward enough investigation, but William discovers that all is not what it seems. With a sorcerer who may, or may not, be evil; a princess who may, or may not, be kidnapped and a prince who William just cannot bring himself to like in spite of his heroic qualities, William has to untangle the mystery before he loses his contract and then his life.
