Very helpful and interesting book. The book explains what is “mental health” and how we can help ourselves. It explains mental illness and conditions in detail, and there is advice on how we can help ourselves. I thought that was a great idea. It explained personality disorders in great detail, and also the various different types of therapy available. A great reference book.

This may be a celebrity but qualified author and Stephen Fry may thinks it is great but my life is too short to spend any more time on an encyclopedia-like tome which uses terms like Mental Retardation inappropriately, talks about someone with autism as being 'in remission', diagnoses a symptomatic man as having Factitious Disorder and then wondering when he dies of cancer if he brought it on himself and a four year old who gets upset about her parents being out socialising most evenings whilst she is left with a babysitter is diagnosed with Separation Anxiety Disorder.
Very insightful. Loved the way each disorder was described and explained. Also gave you a look at what treatment to expect if suffering from the certain mental illnesses. Really enjoyed the read. Gained a lot of knowledge.
Enjoyed this and 50p bargain at WHS - nice mix of theoretical and practical ideas - good for professionally and personally - recognised certain clients (and friends!)
