Donor of Raugerras, newly anointed Kingsman Qassir, elite soldier of Rhentarri, embarks on his first mission. But when faith and kingdom, the two things he had built his life upon, begin to crumble, what remains? Can a divinity that intentionally shatters his ideals still be trusted?
“It was his first time outside Gzira Re in full uniform, and he liked the feel of it, conscious that the armor was new and still oiled from his initiation ceremony… He was a representative of a grand tradition, one that he felt surpassed his individual worth, but one that had chosen him nonetheless.”
“The black plain crunched and smoked under the horse’s strides. He let his own breaths and the pounding of hooves lull him into a trance. He didn’t want to think. Too much had happened. He surrendered to the rhythmic numbness of the trance, leaving the dead behind in what was once Cathriska.”
“Greatest are the men made humble, patient, and docile by the Wind – brought low, almost to nothing.”
The first book of the “Eagle and Cedar Trilogy”. More adventure to follow.
