Sarah has nightmares, Huong is threatened, Miki longs to follow her dreams, Halli's father disappears and the daughter of Ta-wha risks darkness and wild animals for a taste of freedom. This collection of short stories gently lifts aside the familiar imagery of places like China, Vietnam, Singapore, Korea, the Philippines, Bali and Australia and allows us to share the reality of lives that are at best only half understood.
The fortune cookies is a short story book written by Christine Harris. This book is for students and young adults. It is very impressive and emotional; it leads us to see these poor and unfortunate people in our real life. All the stories in this book are set in Australia. These stories reflect our social problem in real life. The stowaways, refugees, bully, family problem etc. are the entire social problem we have in our real life. People get caught for no reason, people fall in love but can’t follow their heart, the racial discrimination are all the problem we are facing. Miki is an exchange student from Japan, Halil can’t find his dad, Huong get bully in the school etc. I enjoyed reading this book because I like sad stories and the stories in this book are so powerful that let me feel how unfair is this world. I think this is one of my favourite books. And Christine Harris used lots of powerful vocabulary to make this book more mindful. Fortune cookies is a book that you will never regret to read and feel.
