What a fourth and final book in the series this was.

Maple Mountain revolves our final friend Wyn. After learning about her struggles with love and the penis embargo, I knew her story would be the sweetest. We meet back up with Wyn and the clan back at the ridge where she meets Archer and his daughter Leni who she offers to nanny for while she awaits the births of her best friends babies.

Unlike the rest of the books in the series, Archer and Wyn’s love story takes its time, we see their love through their quiet daily actions while still getting all the fun, quirky laughter from the crazy town that is Huckleberry Hill. We also get to experience a different kind a love, the love of motherhood and chosen family through Wyn’s relationship with Leni.

This book had everything you need, love, passion, laughter, surprise romance, the return of beloved characters from Emma’s other series, and just so much fun. I wish Huckleberry Hill was a real place. I wish Muddy was a phone call away because she really is the star of this series.

I gave it a 4.5 because it did feel a bit rushed at times but maybe it’s just because I was so sad it flew by so fast for me. Can’t wait to re-read this series all together now that it’s all out.

I really thought since Leni was a part of this book that an unexpected pregnancy wouldn’t happen but it did and for once it was unexpected to me! A fun surprise.

I have to say this book pulled at my heart strings a lot.

Poor Lenni has been through so much. Nancy really did make me mad. Who just drops a kid off like that & just leaves? No goodbye or anything. Like I get that Lenni is Archer’s daughter, but she didn’t know him…

The instant falling & then trying to fight the attraction sent my nerves in overdrive. Wyn was testing my patience ALOT! Yes, I know she has been through a lot but dang.. Can we talk about Wyn’s dad for a second? He was playing zero games when it came to talking to Archer.

I love how Muddy always calls everything & yet she thought she was keeping things a secret. Like, no ma’am we see you.

Overall, it’s a really good single dad/nanny romance. I enjoyed it.

There is something very special about Emma Slate’s writing that captures all the feelings that only a good romance novel can provide. This fourth and last book in the Saddles & Spurs cowboy romance series delivers!!

SIDENOTE: This series would make the perfect gift for anyone in your life who reads romance books. Book #4 takes place during winter time and ends with X-mas. Huckleberry Hill has very strong fall vibes, while Lavender Lake takes place during summer, and, lastly, Prospector’s Peak takes place mostly during spring. So these books are kinda perfect for year-round gift-giving ideas :)

In Maple Mountain, Wyn finally resigns her nanny position working for the horribly entitled New York family and flees straight to her 3 besties, now all living in Huckleberry Hill. Compared with the dating prospects in New York, Huckleberry Hill is the size of a pea, but she definitely catches the eye of a few of its eligible, handsome cowboys.

Too bad she has sworn off going to bed with men! At 23 years old, Wyn has reached the point in her life where she is tired of giving her heart to men that don’t deserve her. Surrounded by the love of her best friends, Wyn decides to take a break for a few months before she moves on to her next job as a childhood educator.

Her plans are disrupted, however, when an eleven-year-old girl is unceremoniously dumped on her doorstep. Archer, the shocked father, a former biker turned blacksmith and farrier, works with the horses at Elk Ridge; has no idea about how to look after a bereaved tween girl.

Wyn’s big heart and her natural love of children makes her the most qualified person to help them bond. The gig is temporary. She is both quietly envious and happy for her friends. All 3 now have someone to love them with babies on the way— they all now have what they’ve always wanted.

The way that Emma Slate develops the themes of found family, strong female friendships, and cowboys that do their fair share of housework and caring reciprocity for their women, makes this series absolutely delicious.

Maple Mountain was a great book to end the Saddles and Spurs series with. This book really was right person, right time. I love it when the chemistry between the two characters is instantaneous.

Archer Keel, former biker, cowboy with a mustache, takes learning he has an eleven-year-old daughter in stride. That God, there’s a nanny just moved to town. Wyn is the glue that holds Archer and Lenni together. She’s fiercely protective of Lenni.

Wyn can’t resist Archer’s mustache, or the glasses he wears at night, or anything about him really. She tries so hard to resist after being let down by men so many times. The banter between Archer and Wyn is hilarious!

I love the Huckleberry Hill universe. Muddy and her knowing ways, the quirky shop owners. I also love the friendship/sisterhood between Hadley, Salem, Poet, and Wyn. The found family aspect of this series is unmatched.

I’ve had the pleasure of arc reading Maple Mountain, book 4 in The Saddles and Spurs series.

I have always wondered what Wyn’s story would be like and boy did Emma Slate deliver. I was hooked from the beginning and I loved how quick Archer loved Wyn and knew she would be his!

The story was very well written, I love the whole family aspect side of things, how close everyone was and how Lenni had fitted right into the chaos.

I've been waiting for this one!! After seeing Wyn quit her job in the last book, I neeeeeeded to know what happened next for her! Archer is her best friend’s boyfriend’s brother, and he unexpectedly learns he has a daughter when she shows up in town. Wyn stepped in as their nanny, which meant plenty of time with Archer and his daughter, and these two fell hard and fast (one of my favorite parts of an Emma Slate book)! I ate it up!! I swooned over Archer learning how to become a dad and seeing how it clicked for him, I loved the way Wyn showed up for Archer and Lenni, and I loved the way Archer was patient and consistent with Wyn. I really enjoyed this whole series!

I've read every book in Emma Slate's Huckleberry Hill series, and I've also devoured the Tarnished Angels MC books (currently making my way through the audiobooks as they hit Hoopla). I fell in love with Huckleberry Hill from book one, so I was beyond excited to get an ARC of Maple Mountain.

Wyn really resonated with me.

She's the last of the four friends to get her happily ever after. She's the girl who believed in love, gave her heart early, and got burned for it. At the end of Poet's book, you can really see her struggling with where she fits now that everyone else's lives are moving forward. As the last of my own friend group to get married, I felt that. I know what it's like to be the fun single friend who's genuinely happy for everyone else while secretly wondering when it'll finally be your turn.

When Wyn arrives at the Ridge, she's feeling completely untethered. She just quit her nanny job after the dad crossed a major line by hitting on her, she's sworn off dating with what she hilariously calls a "penis embargo," and she's convinced protecting her heart is safer than risking it again.

Then there's Archer.

First of all...the man has a mustache and wears slutty glasses. Need I say more? 🥵😂

In true Emma Slate fashion, Archer falls first, and he falls hard. He knows almost immediately that Wyn is it for him, and instead of playing games, he's patient, steady, and relentlessly consistent. Then his entire world gets turned upside down when he learns he has an eleven-year-old daughter, Lenni, from his old MC days. I loved that Archer never hesitated. Sure, he stumbled a little while figuring it all out, but he stepped into fatherhood without question. The complicated part was that Lenni's mom (who passed away) had purposely kept Archer away because she didn't want to raise her daughter around the biker lifestyle, forcing Archer to confront parts of his past that understandably made Wyn hesitant to trust him.

I won't lie...Wyn tested my patience a little. 😂

I completely understood why she was guarded, but her internal monologue kept circling back to wanting the kind of love her friends had while simultaneously pushing Archer away every chance she got. It honestly felt like she was sabotaging herself. Which, yes...that's the point of her character arc. I get it. I was just over here waving my arms like, "Girl! He's right there!" LOL.

Once they finally let themselves fall, though? So worth it.

Their chemistry was fantastic, and Archer absolutely delivered. I love a hero who says what he means, means what he says, and then actually follows through. Archer promised he'd prove himself, and every single action backed up his words. Top-tier book boyfriend.

And Lenni completely stole my heart.

She might read a little more mature than your average eleven-year-old at times, but she was funny, lovable, and brought so much heart to the story. As a stepparent myself, my favorite part of the book was watching Wyn and Lenni slowly become family. It never felt forced. Wyn started as the nanny, but they were already building something much deeper long before anyone acknowledged it.

What I especially appreciated was how Archer and Wyn handled Lenni's grief. They never tried to erase her mom's memory or make her feel guilty for missing her. They welcomed conversations about her, treasured the Christmas ornaments Lenni made with her mom, and even had Wyn sew a teddy bear from her mom's sweaters. Those moments were beautiful. They acknowledged that grief doesn't disappear just because life moves forward, and they showed that blended families don't have to choose between honoring the past and embracing the future. That hit home for me, and I really appreciated seeing it portrayed with so much care.

One of the biggest reasons I keep coming back to Emma Slate's books is because they simply make me happy. They're safe romances with no cheating, no unnecessary OW/OM drama, and couples who actually communicate. Add in the banter between the friend group, lovable side characters, and men who set the bar ridiculously high, and I'm sold every single time.

This was such a sweet, satisfying conclusion to the Huckleberry Hill series.

Also...can we please get a Muddy novella? Because that goat deserves her own story. 😂

Book 4 of the Saddles & Spurs series was everything I hoped for and more. Emma Slate gave Wyn the love story she deserved, and it was the perfect conclusion to a series that has completely stolen my heart.
After having her heart broken time and time again, Wyn has given up on the idea of love. Desperate for a fresh start, she abruptly quits her nanny job in New York and escapes to the charming small town of Huckleberry Hill. Meanwhile, Archer's life is turned upside down when an eleven-year-old daughter, Lenni, unexpectedly arrives at Elk Ridge. Having no idea she even existed, Archer is suddenly thrust into fatherhood, and Wyn steps in to help him navigate this brand-new chapter as Lenni's nanny.
From the very beginning, the chemistry between Archer and Wyn is undeniable, but what made this romance so special wasn't the instant attraction—it was Archer's unwavering patience. Knowing Wyn's heart had been shattered before, he never rushed her, never pressured her, and never expected more than she was ready to give. He simply loved her with grace, consistency, and understanding, allowing her to build trust in him at her own pace. It was refreshing to read a hero who understood that love isn't about forcing someone to heal—it's about creating a safe place where healing can happen naturally.

Lenni quickly became one of my favorite characters. Even though she was thrilled to finally have a family, she was still carrying the heavy grief of losing her mother just six months earlier. Watching Wyn become her safe place—helping her navigate those complicated emotions with so much love, patience, and compassion—was one of the most emotional parts of the book. Their bond was every bit as beautiful as the romance itself.
Just when Archer and Wyn think they've found their footing, another surprise changes everything—a pregnancy. Their biggest fear is that Lenni will feel replaced or forgotten. Instead, she completely melts your heart with her excitement about becoming a big sister while also wrestling with the guilt of feeling happy when she still misses her mom. Emma Slate handled those emotions so thoughtfully, reminding readers that grief and joy can exist side by side.
This book was the perfect finale to the Saddles & Spurs series. Watching all four best friends find their happily ever after, get married, and start their families made this ending feel incredibly satisfying. It was also so much fun catching up with beloved side characters and seeing them find love too.
While this chapter of Huckleberry Hill may be complete, it definitely doesn't feel like goodbye. Emma Slate has created a town and cast of characters that readers never want to leave, and after that ending, I am beyond excited to see what's next for the Calhoun family at Dark Timber Ranch.
If you love small-town romance, found family, cowboy bikers who fall hard, surprise pregnancy, and stories full of heart, this series deserves a spot on your TBR. Archer has officially earned a place among my favorite book boyfriends, and Wyn's journey to trusting love again was the perfect way to close out this unforgettable series.

Seriously, what is in the water in Huckleberry Hill?

Four best friends meet the men they are meant to be with, fall completely in love, and end up pregnant. At this point, I am convinced there has to be some kind of magic in this town. 😂✨

Maple Mountain follows Wyn, the final woman in the friend group to get her story. She works as a nanny, is wonderful with children, and feels like a beautiful blend of all the women who came before her. She is sweet and kind, but also brave and confident when it matters. At the same time, she can be shy, guarded, and uncertain when it comes to love.

I had been waiting so long for Wyn’s story, and Emma Slate gave me everything I hoped for.

Archer is a motorcycle-riding cowboy who works as a farrier. On the very same day he meets Wyn, he also discovers that he is the father of an eleven-year-old girl named Lenni.

That is a lot for anyone to take in, but Archer steps into both situations with his whole heart.

One thing these men never do is hold back when they know they have found their woman, and Archer is no exception. He flirts with Wyn nonstop throughout the book, always trying to charm her, make her smile, and slowly win her over. He is instantly smitten and would happily give her anything she asked for, including the moon. 🌙

Wyn does her best to stand firm and resist him. She tries to convince herself that she is not going to fall for his confidence, his flirting, or the way he keeps showing up for her.

Unfortunately for Wyn, she is fighting a losing battle.

Little by little, she starts falling for Archer, but she is also falling for Lenni. Watching Wyn become attached to both of them made the romance feel even sweeter because she was not only opening her heart to a man. She was slowly becoming part of a family.

This is a true slow burn, and I loved that the story never rushed the relationship or the spice. Wyn and Archer build something real before anything physical takes over. They support one another, learn how to trust, and slowly become exactly what the other person needs.

Wyn helps Archer navigate fatherhood and understand what Lenni needs from him, while Archer helps Wyn believe that love can be safe, steady, and lasting. Watching the three of them grow closer was one of my favourite parts of the book. ❤️

When the spice finally arrives, it is not overwhelming or thrown in just for the sake of it. 🌶️🌶️ It feels natural, emotional, and well earned after everything they have built together.

Emma Slate always knows how to bring the heat without sacrificing the story, and Maple Mountain is no exception. You get sweetness, humour, emotional depth, and just the right amount of filth, all wrapped inside a story with characters who feel real and lived in.

I loved this series so much, and I am genuinely sad that it is over. Huckleberry Hill has become one of those fictional places I wish I could move to, even if the water does seem suspicious. 😂

Emma Slate delivered a beautiful ending to the series, and Wyn, Archer, and Lenni were absolutely worth the wait. 🏔️❤️

THIS is how you conclude a series 👏🏼 Let the ramblings commence.

I don’t think there was a single thing that I did not love about this book (other than the fact I would have loved having Archer’s POV)! I laughed. I teared up. I kicked my feet. I swooned. I needed to fan myself 🥵 I’m ready to read the series again.

With Wyn’s help, Archer is learning how to be a dad. With Archer’s help, Wyn is learning how to trust men (and her heart) again — well, just one man. Archer was surprised with an 11 year old daughter he knew nothing about, and one he knows nothing about raising, so he enlists the help of Wyn, who just quit her last nannying job. How perfect that she was there at The Ridge just when Archer needed someone. And Lenni connected with her immediately, which sealed the deal. Now, they are navigating the nuances of a pre-teen girl and her grief over losing her mom. And then, they get another little surprise!

🎶 These are a few of my favorites things 🎶

Archer not only has a slutty mustache, but he has slutty glasses, too! Add in that he’s a single dad, cowboy biker? Have mercy!

When I tell you the banter is top notch, I mean it is phenomenal! I was a highlighting fool with all the funny things these characters said! And the way everyone was in everybody’s business, like the loving, meddling family they are? I ate that up.

The way Archer and Wyn came together and the way he said “I love you?” It was absolutely perfect for them 👏🏼 Archer wanted Wyn from the moment he laid eyes on her, but she had enacted the pen!s embargo. So she was doing everything she could to withstand his charms, until she just couldn’t any longer. And when that tension finally snapped? It was explosive!

There were lots of tummy flippies! You know what I’m talking about. When the character says or does something, and your stomach just does a little somersault? Yeah, those. Lots of them.

Watching Archer step into the role of “dad” was everything. And sweet Lenni? I just wanted to hug the poor girl. The way the three of them quickly and organically become a family was so sweet to watch unfold on the page. Archer may not have any experience taking care of a kid, but he really is a good dad.

Wyn feels left out being the only one of the girl gang not pregnant and in love with a cowboy biker. Her struggle with feeling like that would never be in the cards for her? Made my heart hurt.

BUT then you have Archer showing up for her with actions because he knows she thinks words are just hollow.

I want to be able to communicate as well as Archer and Wyn when I grow up 👏🏼 Archer did not let things lie. Another Keel that knows exactly what he wants and goes after it. He’s charming, sweet, funny.

But mostly, I just wanna be like Muddy!

Maple Mountain is Emma Slate’s emotional farewell to the Saddles & Spurs series, serving up single dad x nanny, forced proximity, age gap, found family, and enough cowboy charm to make you consider relocating to Huckleberry Hill.

And honestly? The romance is adorable. But Lenni? She stole the entire book.

Because beneath all the flirting and longing looks is an eleven-year-old little girl trying to survive the impossible. She’s grieving. She’s angry. She’s confused. Every time she lets herself smile, it feels like she’s betraying the mother she lost. Those moments? They hit me right in the chest. My heart didn’t just ache for her. It broke.

Archer is exactly the kind of fictional man who ruins real men for everyone else. Ex-biker. Tattooed. Works with horses. Fiercely protective. Completely gone for his girls before he even realizes it. Sir… respectfully… Get in line.

Wyn is just as easy to love. After dealing with one disappointment after another, she declares what might be my favorite phrase of the year: a penis embargo. Queen behavior. The only problem? That embargo folded faster than a cheap lawn chair.

I understood why. Archer is basically walking, talking cowboy catnip. But I would’ve loved a little more resistance. More tension. More of Wyn making him work for that forever she claimed she didn’t want. Instead, the romance felt… easy. Maybe a little too easy. Not boring. Just smoother than I expected.

That said, Emma Slate knows exactly how to write characters you desperately want to hug. The found family dynamics are everything. The emotional beats land. The small-town charm wraps around you like your favorite blanket. And watching three broken souls slowly become a family?

That’s the kind of romance that sticks with you. This isn’t a book full of shocking twists or endless angst. It’s about healing. It’s about choosing love after life has convinced you not to. It’s about discovering that family isn’t always the one you’re born into; sometimes it’s the one that finds you when you need it most.

A heartfelt, comforting, swoony finale that made me laugh, melted my heart, and reminded me why I keep coming back to cowboy romances. And yes… Tattooed farriers remain dangerously attractive.

Facing her three best friends who are in love and all expecting babies, Wyn feels like the outsider of her group and is envious of the happiness they have found, never knowing if she will get the same happy ending.

Archer is a cowboy working on The Ridge and one day a woman shows up with an eleven year old girl, telling him that she is his daughter. In shock and not knowing what to do, the found family Archer has made suggests Wyn be his daughter’s nanny since he needs a job and Archer is clueless on how to care for or connect with a child he never knew he had.

From the first moment Archer met Wyn, he knew there was something to her that he never saw her as just the nanny. Having been hurt in the past, Wyn vows to stay away from the sexy cowboy who stares at her longingly and flirts with her like it is full time job. Living together and raising his daughter bring Wyn and Archer closer together and he does his best to convince Wyn that she can trust him, not just to be there for his daughter, but to be there for her too.

This book was the perfect ending to this fantastic series. Getting to see each character be there for Wyn like they had been there for each other was heart warming. While change can be difficult, Wyn has seen a lot of it as her friends have moved to Huckleberry Hill and found their happily ever afters. While Wyn has had a good childhood with wonderful parents, she has struggled finding her own happiness in love and that clouds her judgement when Archer tries to show her how he feels about her. Archer had a rough past which had cost him eleven years without his daughter and he is now a man that wants to be there for her and Wyn.

The chemistry between Wyn and Archer was electric and their banter will leave you laughing. Wyn experienced so much emotional growth through the book and was able to accept the love Archer showed her. If you are looking for a heart warming book with a great cast of friends, pets and of course Muddy, this is the book for you. Wyn is a nanny who is between jobs, so she heads to Montana to stay with her best friends. I loved Archer. This is a single POV story from Wyn’s perspective (like all Emma Slate books), and usually that leaves me wishing I knew what the MMC was thinking. I never felt that way here. Archer is incredibly open about how he feels, so I never felt like I was missing his perspective. He is all in when it comes to Wyn and will do anything to make her feel like she’s part of his family. When Wyn is hesitant to start something with him, he tells her that’s okay, he’ll wait and spend every day proving he isn’t going anywhere and that she can trust him with her heart. I also loved the banter between the two.

The secondary characters really add to the story as well. We get to revisit the couples from the first three books, which I loved. Muddy is always a star of these books, and I’m pretty sure she’s been doing some witchy matchmaking to get these girls knocked up and back to her mountain 😂 I also adored Archer’s daughter, Lenni. After losing her mother and then being dropped off with a father she’d never even met, she’s been through more than any child should. Watching her slowly begin to heal and seeing the relationship she builds with Wyn was incredibly sweet. We also get a few appearances from characters in the Tarnished Angels series.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I’m sad to see the series come to an end. The only reason this wasn’t a full five stars for me was Wyn. I completely understood why she’d sworn off men, but I felt like the constant reminders about her “penis embargo” and how she was done with love became a little repetitive. It wasn’t enough to take away from my enjoyment of the story, but it did keep it just shy of five stars.

Maple mountain was the perfect book to conclude the series, it tied everything together so perfectly.






This book is Wynn and Archers story, the book picks up where Wynn’s story was left in Prospector’s Peak after her quitting her job in the city, she decides to visit Huckleberry Hill to see her friends (also referred to as her sisters), where she meets Archer for the first time. The story between Archer and Wynn develops quickly with Wynn agreeing to be the nanny for Archer’s daughter Lennie. Wynn is a loving, compassionate, intelligent and witty character, Archer is flirty, funny, caring and very dependable. Both characters are the support that each other needs, Archer breaks down Wynn’s walls and Wynn helps Archer through the whirlwind of becoming a dad. The relationship between the two is funny with some interesting nicknames, but it really takes time to develop, there’s tension and yearning, that had me impatiently waiting for them to get together, it was the everyone else sees it but them situation. They were really the last to know.

I once again really love the writing style of this book, it’s so cozy and well written. Something about this book I didn’t expect to enjoy as much as I did is Wynn’s inner monologue, it was really interesting to know what she was thinking and it was very insightful.

The reason I think this was the perfect book to end the series is everything did tie in together so nicely, we get to see more of the characters and relationships we love and even new characters like Lennie blended in so seamlessly it felt like she had been a part of the series all along. The relationship dynamics between all of the characters is so different, but the found family aspect is so prevalent, Wynn steps up into the role of Lennie’s mum so well as does Archer as her dad. Poet played a big part in this book and her and Wynn’s friendship really got to shine, they are as close to one another as Salem and Hadley and they really are the perfect friend group.

I can’t wait to see what happens next with Dark Timber Ranch but I hope we get to see some familiar faces.

I think this might actually be my favorite book in the Saddles & Spurs series! If you're looking for a romance with a small town, cowboy biker, single dad, nanny, found family, surprise pregnancy, slow burn tension, and plenty of heart, this one delivers!

One thing to note is that this is single POV, so we only get Wyn's perspective. I would have loved dual POV because I would've given anything to be inside Archer's head, but that didn't stop me from falling for him. Archer is everything I want in a book boyfriend protective, dependable, an amazing father, and just an all around good man. Seriously where do I find an Archer? 🤣

I also loved that Lennie is 11 years old. So many nanny romances feature toddlers or very young kids, so having an older child created such a fun dynamic and made the family relationships feel different from the usual.

One of my favorite parts of this entire series has always been returning to Huckleberry Hill. Seeing familiar faces again, catching up with previous couples, and, of course, all of the animals made me so happy. And Muddy? Still an absolute icon. I adore her. Honestly, I'd move to Huckleberry Hill tomorrow if it were real.

The romance is definitely a slower build, but there is plenty of chemistry before the spice. There are intimate scenes, but the emotional connection and growing family are really the heart of the story.

This was such an easy, comforting read that completely held my attention. I finished it in about 24 hours because I just didn't want to put it down.

I highly recommend reading the first three books before this one. While this story can stand on its own, getting to know all of the characters beforehand makes returning to Huckleberry Hill feel even more special.

Overall, Maple Mountain was a heartfelt, cozy cowboy romance with lovable characters, a wonderful found family, and my favorite couple of the series. I can't wait to see what Emma Slate writes next!

Firstly I want to thank @emmaslateauthor for accepting me for the 4th book in the saddle and spurs series and I apologise for the late review!

Wyn and Archers story was.. EVERYTHING! It was so fast paced but still had time to punch my heart and make me cry that they both got there HEA! I couldn’t put this down!

The setting of the book always makes me want to visit small country towns! I love the detail Emma goes into to explaining huckleberry hill and what the town has to offer.. the cowboys are all the rave.. or so I hear (I WANT ONE)

Hearing more about how Wyn felt and how she didn’t want to find anyone to be her forever person from being so heart broken on multiple occasions (I think we all have been in the position where we give someone our heart and it ends up being crushed) but oh no.. archer really showed up for her.. yes she was the nanny to his unexpected 11 year old daughter.. but it was love at first sight (he says this!)

Archer Keel.. oh my gosh he is being added to my book boyfriends list because this man.. he devoted himself to showing wyn that no matter how hard she tries to push him away, he will always come back! And him finding out about his daughter (who he didn’t know he had).. my heart went out to him, because he didn’t get to see her firsts! But he was there for her when she needed it the most and when he didn’t know what to do.. he had wynelope to help him (IYKYK) and him not really having anyone but brooks his entire life to them having a found family was so heartwarming!

Wow, what an ending to such an awesome series about a group of 4 best friends. I have said it before and I will say it again. Emma Slate books are some of the best I have read. And this one doesn’t disappoint.
Although I’ve also found this the hardest review to write because I just don’t know where to start!!

Wyn and Archer's story was emotional and also cute from the very beginning. And like all of Emma’s books I was totally engrossed from the first page.

From a surprise 11 year old child to a surprise pregnancy. This book is a great journey to have been a part of. I finished it in just over 24 hours! Couldn’t put it down.

This book was the perfect way to bring together real life feelings that I am sure most people have felt one time or another.

Wyn being the last of her friends to be single and also jobless with no sense of which direction she wants her life to go in. Whether she will ever find true love like her friends and where she should live (back in New York or staying in Huckleberry Hill with her friends).


Wyn has sworn of men, Archer fell in love with her the first time he layed eyes on her, which was also the first time he met his 11 year old daughter who has just been dumped on him. He was determined to make her his and she was determined not to fall in love and risk another broken heart.
But agreeing to help him out by being Lenni’s nanny was the start of a beautiful journey to Wyn finally letting Archer love her as well as his daughter.


I love how Emma always manages to cross her book series characters as well.
(Colt and Mia are still two of my favourite characters from Emma’s books).

AND WE GOT A LITTLE MORE OF MUDDY AND GRAMPS. Yay!!!

I really like the book covers to this series. Book 4 is bringing thhe series to an end in regards to the four friends. The other three are settled, with partners and pregnancies. Wyn comes from New York, having lost her job, to stay for a while until the births. Archer suddenly finds he has an eleven year old daughter and her mother, a girl he had a good time with from years ago being in MC culture.
Wyn becomes his nanny and this is the complicated part. Employer and employee not withstanding, it is obvious they both have feelings for each other and are a good fit. Everyone around them knows this.
It took me two thirds of the book before I liked Wyn. At twenty three years old, she swears off men because of them walking away when she sees them as getting serious. Disappointed certainly, but too dramatic. Life and relationships don't come with cast iron guarantees. She wallows because she wants what her friends have and when Archer offer it, she blanks it. I understand her being afraid of rejection, but as no conflict with doing it to him.
Self pity does not serve her well and despite friends advice, she is dismissive, indecisive. She is not the only one to suffer loss. She is empathetic to Lennie but hardened to her own. As a reader I found her frustrating and give full credit to the author for this. The author has drawn her character well..those around her are patient, understanding and kind. She shows this to others, but not herself.
The third part of the storyline depicts a totally different side to Wyn as she grows in character. Archer and the others continue in their own personalities, but hers softens and strengthens. There is more humour surrounding them all. Loved the wedding and Christmas chapters. Life and love develop, and it is within their family dynamic where the change strengthens.

What a PERFECT way to finish the Saddles & Spurs series. 🥹🤠❤️

I’ve been waiting for Wyn’s story, and Emma Slate absolutely delivered with Maple Mountain. Wyn and Archer had me hooked from the beginning. The single dad/live-in nanny dynamic, the chemistry, the tension, the spice, the found family; I ate every bit of it up.

I especially loved getting to see another side of Wyn. After watching her friendship with Hadley, Salem and Poet throughout the series, it felt so satisfying to finally see her get her own happily ever after. And Archer?! A tattooed, flirty cowboy who suddenly finds himself raising an eleven-year-old daughter and goes completely all-in on creating a family? YES PLEASE.

What really got me, though, was watching Wyn, Archer and his daughter slowly become their own little family. There were so many sweet moments mixed in with the steam and drama, and I loved watching Wyn fight against everything she was feeling while Archer basically decided, “Nope, you’re mine.” 😂

And of course, being back in Huckleberry Hill with all of the characters we’ve grown to love made this one even better. The friendships between the women continue to be one of my favourite parts of this entire series. I’m genuinely sad that this is the final book because I’m not ready to say goodbye to this group or this little mountain town.

Maple Mountain gave me everything I wanted from Wyn’s story: a protective cowboy, single-dad goodness, forced proximity, found family, plenty of spice, emotion, and an ending that left my heart very, very happy.

An easy five stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Maple Mountain – A Perfect, Heartfelt Finale to the Saddles & Spurs Series

I received Maple Mountain as an ARC and wow—this is an absolutely a five‑star, must‑buy‑in‑paperback, reread -kind of book. After three incredible installments, I’ve been waiting so long for Wynn’s story, and Emma Slate delivered everything I hoped for and more. Emma Slate brings the heat to every book she publishes but never sacrifices story for spice. Maple Mountain is no exception—you get sweet filth wrapped up in a well‑written, emotionally grounded plot with characters who feel real and lived‑in. Seriously, I want to move to Huckleberry Hill.

Why This Book Hit Different:
*Finally, Wynn’s Turn! After three long books, we finally get to dive into Wynn’s world—and she was deep, thoughtful, and without a doubt my favourite mama of all the girls. Her journey felt so earned, and watching her find her own love story was just everything.
*Archer Stole My Heart. I wanted more about Archer and could have read an entire book just about him. His backstory, his vulnerability, and the way he stepped up as a father had me completely hooked. I honestly wished this book was longer just so I could stay in his world a little more.
*Tattooed Cowboy + Single Dad + Nanny Trope. Chef’s kiss and enough said.
*Small‑Town Charm: Huckleberry Hill and Elk Ridge feel like places you want to visit, full of rugged cowboys, fierce women, and a chosen family that’ll make you want to move in.
*Emotional Depth: Fair warning—there are some heavy themes and emotional beasts, but you’re still guaranteed a hard‑earned, satisfying HEA by the end.

I've been invested in the Saddles & Spurs series since Book 1 and have been lucky enough to receive an ARC for all four books. If there's a new Emma Slate release, I'm absolutely reading it. Ride-or-die fan over here!

Maple Mountain wraps up the series as the fourth and final book, and we finally get Wyn's story!

One of my favorite parts of this interconnected standalone series is catching up with all the familiar faces... and of course Muddy! What would this series be without everyone's favorite troublemaking grandma who always seems to have a little trouble up her sleeve.... !?!?

Wyn has watched her friends, Hadley, Salem, and Poet all find their happily ever afters on the ranch, leaving her feeling like she's always the bridesmaid and never the bride. I really enjoyed seeing her finally get her chance!

The first third of the book was a little slow for me, and I didn't quite feel the chemistry between Archer and Wyn right away. Around the 30% mark, though, things really picked up. Archer became much more intentional and open about his feelings, and I loved how steady and patient he was while Wyn struggled to trust after past heartbreak. Then second half was much faster paced and ended on a high note! I really enjoyed seeing Archer and Wyn finally together and in love!

However, I did find myself wishing Archer had simply asked Wyn why she was so resistant to dating him. While I enjoyed their banter and the push and pull, that part felt a little more drawn out than it needed to be.

This series has been one of my biggest guilty pleasures. I know that the accidental pregnancy isn’t for everyone, but I just love how this series is and just following a bunch of friends experience life together throughout the series.

I think one of my biggest disappointments came from the beginning of the book. After the cliffhanger in the last book, I was expecting something huge to happen. I spent so much time wondering what could have happened, so when it was resolved so quickly, I feel like all of the anticipation was for nothing. I was relieved that nothing happened to that character, but after such a big cliffhanger, I expected a lot more happening.

Out of all the books in the series, I think this one is my favorite. I absolutely loved the nanny storyline, and Leni completely stole my heart. I loved her relationship with Wyn, and I especially loved watching her bond with Archer. Her relationship with Archer and Wyn was my favorite part of the book.

As for Wyn and Archer, I did like them together, but I wanted a little more from them. Archer’s feelings were never in question, but I felt like at first I couldn’t really believe that she was into Archer because she kept on saying it but her actions rarely showed. I believed that they each cared for each other, but I think a little more emotional vulnerability from Wyn would’ve made her relationship stronger.

Another thing I also would have wished the epilogue would have jumped further into the future. Since this is the end of the series, I would’ve loved seeing everyone five or even ten years later.

Overall, I had such a good time with this book, and I am so sad this series is over.

I have absolutely adored this series, and I wasn’t ready for it to end. Emma has a way of pulling me into her stories from the very first page, and this book was no exception.
I’ve been wanting for Wyn’s story ever since she appeared as the strong, supportive friend throughout the series. Watching her struggle with feeling left behind while everyone around her seemed to be moving forward felt incredibly relatable. Emma handled those emotions beautifully, showing that you can be genuinely happy for the people you love while still trying to figure out where you belong. This was exactly the book I needed.
Archer was everything I hoped he would be and more. I loved him in Poet’s story, and he completely stole my heart here. His determination, patience, and unwavering commitment to winning Wyn’s heart made him impossible not to love. Seeing him step into fatherhood and embrace that role was one of my favourite parts of the story.
Lenni was such a wonderful addition to the book. She has been through so much, and her relationship with Archer was incredibly touching. We often talk about "right person, wrong time" when it comes to romances, but I think that also applies to Archer and Lenni. He was finally in a place where he could be the father she deserved, and watching their bond grow throughout the story was truly special.
I have loved this family and this world so much. One of my favourite things about Emma’s books is how all of her stories connect, allowing us to continue catching glimpses of beloved characters long after their books have ended. This was a beautiful, heartfelt ending to a series I never wanted to leave, and I can't wait to see what Emma gives us next.

Maple Mountain is book four in the Saddle and Spurs Series.

If you have read any of the Saddle and Spurs Series you already know, Maple Mountain is going to be fantastic. Does Wyn finally get her cowboy?

I have loved this whole series, but I have to say I think Maple Mountain may be my favorite.

I loved the complications, the surprises, the forced proximity, the healing, and the love in this story. Wyn and Archer have fantastic chemistry, and their banter is perfect for their personalities.

With her heart, he is confident while she is afraid. Then the tables turn with his daughter, and she is confident while he is afraid. I loved this part of the story and how their relationships and healing are addressed. How they navigate grief and find more than love waiting on the other side.

There are hilarious moments, swoon worthy scenes, melt your hearts, passages, and love. Always love. Archer is steady and sure about the things he wants in his life. Wyn knows what she wants, but her heart has betrayed her before. Can they find a middle ground before Wyn runs back to New York?

Maple Mountain would not be complete without catching up with all of the friends, their spouses, the small town gossips, and family. Is Muddy keeping secrets? Are Hadley, Salem, and Poet ready to have their babies?

Maple Mountain has all the answers and old friends or new friends (depending on where you are in the Emma Slate world of books) stop by for a visit. Enjoy.

I recommend Maple Mountain. I hope you will love it as much as I do.

Seriously... is it the “magical” hot springs? Because there has to be something in that town. 😂

I’m a little late with this review... but you can’t really blame me. Something this good simply can’t be rushed.

Maple Mountain may be the final book in the cowboy surprise-pregnancy series, but it’s so much more than that. It beautifully ties all four books together, bringing everyone into one big found family 🩵

We’ve followed this journey through each of the books, but Wyn and her friends truly remind me of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Four women who are completely different from one another, yet fit together so perfectly. I absolutely adored their friendship and the way they would drop everything to help one of their own. That kind of sisterhood is so special. 🥹

I had been waiting for Archer and Wyn’s story, and let me tell you... the wait was worth every second.

Their relationship is everything I love: playful banter one minute, then laughing, loving, and supporting each other the next. Archer is exactly the kind of man Wyn needed. A total green flag who knows when to push her to face her fears, while also making her feel safe enough to trust and be loved.

And ngl... I’d probably listen to him too... especially when he’s wearing his glasses in the morning. 😏

...The moustache, though? That’s a no from me. 😂

But jokes aside, Archer knows exactly what he wants, and that’s Wyn. I also loved how, the moment he found out about Lenni, he immediately stepped up and took responsibility without hesitation. 🥹

Wyn surprised me in the best way. I initially thought she’d be similar to Salem: fiery, outspoken, and a little reckless but she’s actually incredibly nurturing with the biggest heart. She’s so in tune with the children she cares for and always seems to know exactly the right thing to say.

I’m so happy that Wyn and Lenni found each other because, honestly... they both deserved the biggest hug 🥹🫶🏻

I don’t even know where to begin because Maple Mountain absolutely OWNED my heart. Emma Slate didn’t just write a romance—she gave me a place that felt like home and characters that I never wanted to say goodbye to.

I laughed. I swooned. I got butterflies. I wanted to shake these two at times, then hug them the next. The slow burn had me absolutely feral, and every tiny glance, every bit of banter, every moment of vulnerability had me kicking my feet and screaming, “JUST KISS ALREADY!”

The chemistry between these two is EVERYTHING. It’s the kind of romance that sneaks up on you, wraps itself around your heart, and refuses to let go. Watching them slowly learn to trust, heal, and choose each other was so beautiful that I found myself smiling like an idiot one chapter and tearing up the next.

And can we talk about Maple Mountain itself? I wanted to pack my bags and move there immediately. Emma Slate has such a gift for creating small towns that feel alive. The community, the friendships, and the found-family vibes made this story even more special. It wasn’t just the romance that captured me—it was the feeling of belonging.

This book reminded me why I fell in love with romance in the first place. It gave me butterflies, emotional damage (the good kind), and one of those book hangovers where you finish the last page and just… stare at the ceiling because you’re not ready to let these characters go.

If you love small-town romances with incredible chemistry, emotional healing, all the heart-fluttering tension, and characters you’ll be thinking about long after you finish, stop what you’re doing and read Maple Mountain.

FINALLY we have Wyn’s story! Not gonna lie I wasn’t sure how Wyn was going to end up pregnant during the penis embargo, but of course Emma weaved her mysterious writing powers to make it happen. Archer…Archie that mustache, yes please. I absolutely love the banter between Wyn and Archer from the minute their eyes met. I cracked up when Wyn wouldn’t give him her full name and he decided to call her Wynelope, for some reason it just fits better. I love how at the end he ropes his daughter into his silly names too, but I’ll leave that name a secret. My stance on Nancy will never change from the beginning, I tried, nope, didn’t work. Team Wyn all the way. Lenni really is the perfect addition with her loyal hands-throwing-mini-muddy self. I’ve got mixed emotions when it comes to the end of this series. I’m super excited for all their stories to finally be told, but I’m sad too because I will definitely miss these characters, all things Muddy, and their unique pregnancy cravings. I definitely recommend reading Maple Mountain and the rest of the Saddles and Spurs series. Honestly, I’d start with Wreck and Ruin, then venture over to Huckleberry Hill. I’m excited for what’s next with the Calhoun family at Dark Timber Ranch! P.S. I want to be Muddy when I grow up. :)
