Someone wants Grace Talbot dead and no one is safe in this thrilling romantic suspense.
Grace Talbot is a researcher who might’ve discovered a weight-loss medicine for animals but she needs more time to make sure it’s safe. Meanwhile, there’s a fire at her uncle’s ranch. One man dead and her uncle in the hospital, Grace races out of work to be with her uncle.
She meets a handsome deputy and they soon become close. He’s investigating the fire and the murder of the ranch hand. But the more he’s around Grace, the more he’s attracted to her. She’s spunky, smart and beautiful, not to mention brave.
After several failed attempts, a group of men come to finish off Grace before she reveals the truth about the supposed animal drug. Can Grace survive these hitmen or will the group responsible for controlling the diet-product industry kill her before she publishes her findings?
I know I say this a lot but I love romantic suspense! This book is even more thrilling than the premise. There’s action from the very beginning and I was gripping my e-reader tightly the whole time I was reading. Filled with intense scenes, complex characters and a plot worthy of being on the big screen, A Dose of Danger is superb!
One of the things I didn’t care for was that I knew who the bad guys from the beginning. We get a glimpse into their agenda from the start and there wasn’t a surprise plot twist that I personally love in suspense. It’s a preference on my part, as a reader, and not a knock on the author.
This was my first book by Kim and it won’t be my last. She has a talent for weaving action and romance all in the same breath. Her characters reacted realistically and I was never bored. I loved the romance that blossomed between Grace and Logan.
I talked with Kim and she informed me she just signed the sequel, which makes me very happy! I can’t wait to read it.
Favorite Character:
Grace. I loved how strong and logical she is while still being vulnerable. As a reader, I get to experience her reactions to circumstances in a realistic way. I appreciate how authentic she is and while trying to be brave, she leans on Logan in times of weakness. She also is a huge animal lover which makes me happy. * smiles *
Favorite Quote:
Even without his heavy coat on, he knew he would be burning just as hot. She fit against him like they were made for each other. When he finally let her go she looked up at him with a wicked smile that made him itch to grab for her again.
Once again Kim McMahill doesn’t disappointment with another thriller/suspense romance.
Grace Talbot is researching an animal nutrition supplement when she and her colleagues discover it could be the answer for human weight loss. While working in Salt Lake, she houses her test subject, Charlotte the pig, at her uncle’s Wyoming ranch.
When she receives a call from Logan, a sheriff’s deputy, informing her Uncle Moss is in the hospital and his ranch hand is dead, Graces drives through a torrential snow storm to reach the ranch and the burned out remains of the barn storing much of their supplies and feed.
Logan meets her at the ranch to help sort out what’s happend, but they both realize this is more than an accident. While local authorities and the FBI piece together an even larger conspiracy in the pharmaceutical industry, it is evident Grace’s life is in danger. The couple forms a strong bond fighting the elements and their very existence. Do they dare to hope to live long enough to find a future?
This novel is hard to put down and one in a succession of books by Ms. McMahill that will keep you riveted to your seat. A Dose of Danger is a great summer read which I highly recommend.
A DOSE OF DANGER .....Kim.McMahill narration...Cynthia.Hemminger Gripping plot from the beginning, a fire, a trusted friend and ranch hand is dead. and Uncle in hospital, as well as animals. Grace getting a leave of absent from her job. Hoping she got all the papers and data she was researching. Hurrying to be there, and only family member left. Study shows it was not an accident, the deputy sheriff Logan is investigating. Things escalate against Grace and her research ,as well for them. Good narration by Cynthia she brought the emotion and feel of what was going on. It definitely draws one in to listen and what the outcome will be.
I had a Free Copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Talk about danger and mystery…wow! This book really has it! When Researcher Grace Talbot and her team discover a solution for weight loss, they become targets with a Capitol “T”. With her colleagues either dead or on the run, her uncle in the hospital, and his ranch hand dead, she has to decide whether to trust the sheriff’s deputy Logan. A very interesting and packed with action book.
Entrepreneurialism and greed is killing Americans from the inside out, and dedicated FBI Agents Devyn Nash and Nick Melonis are on the hunt in this new series from best-selling author Kim McMahill.
Using her home territory of the US West, readers go along on what becomes more than a manhunt, but a mysterious corporation with far-reaching tentacles infiltrating the food we eat from the farm animals up. In Dose of Danger, McMahill explores what we hope is a fictional scenario in which the testing process of controlled substances used for human diet medications come under suspicion. The story opens with corporate researcher Grace Talbot on her way home to the family farm which she’s been informed has suffered a suspicious fire that killed long-time family farmhand Butch and severely injured her uncle, the man who raised her from childhood. Grace has an ulterior motive for rushing to the scene, however, as the reader soon learns of her own mistrust in the system she works for. She is met at the ranch by Deputy Logan Carlson, and the two of them struggle against the elements and desperate thugs to stay alive and salvage the research that holds the truth about project Grace is working on.
Well into the story we meet the FBI Agents Nash and Melonis who have been working the cases of mysterious deaths in various aspects of the food industry. When Grace’s colleagues start dropping like flies or running for their lives, Nash and Melonis wonder if this situation is another piece of the puzzle they are working on, and get involved. Grace must decide how much to trust Logan as the too-good-to-be-true deputy works out his own past issues in order to help keep her alive.
This is a stand-alone story, however, the FBI Agents carry on their work in the next book in which they attempt to get closer to the mysterious corporation trying to affect our eating habits. The suspense kept me coming back to read in every spare moment, and I bonded with the characters and their dilemmas. I expected a shoot out to be typical and was prepared to skim through it but ended up reading every word. Those who enjoy romantic suspense with several twists, large casts telling the story from several viewpoints, and with more than one side story going on will eat up this series.
A Dose of Danger started out full force with a tragic fire. Author Kim McMahill blends a unique pair of story lines of a scientific researcher and a ranch in Wyoming. At first the pair seemed like an odd combination, but quickly I was drawn into the suspense that brought these two worlds together. Grace Talbot is an animal supplement researcher who returns to her roots on a ranch in Wyoming after a fatal fire. After her Uncle Moss’s ranch hand is killed in the fire and Moss substances injuries including a blow to the head, Grace’s world gets turned upside down when she believes the fire to be her fault. Grace;s research subject, Charlotte the pig, was housed at her uncle’s farm. Grace and her colleagues were working on an animal nutrition supplement that quickly turned into a possible human weight loss supplement. As Grace arrives at the farm she is surprised to find Logan, the local deputy, at the ranch ready to help her with the ranch chores. Working so closely together to piece together the particulars of the accident, Logan ends up becoming Grace’s personal bodyguard as they both start to realize the fire was no accident. As their relationship starts to develop, Grace realizes that by being alone she may have been missing out. The book is wonderfully written. It’s a page turning romantic thriller that makes me only wish there is a possible sequel. You won’t want to let go of these characters.
Grace Talbot is a researcher involved in the possible discovery of an animal enzyme that could help people lose weight. If it works, it’ll be worth millions. But an incident at her Uncle’s barn sends Grace on a treacherous journey and on course to meet up with Logan, the Deputy Sheriff.
Other suspicious incidents occur, but every time they get close an individual ends up dead. There’s been a fatal skiing accident, an explosion killing two scientists and destroying ten years of data, and a suicide. They can’t all have been accidents. Now Grace’s own life is in danger and she doesn’t know who to trust.
I thoroughly enjoy reading Ms McMahill’s novels. The plots are rollercoaster rides of excitement and adventure, but her characters are well-drawn and I found myself connecting with Grace immediately. Thoroughly recommended.
It's a thriller! This is an action-packed book with suspense, mystery, romance intertwined, and a little science thrown in for intrigue! Underneath, there's Grace's development, as she refines her life goals and priorities. The villains are deliciously dastartly, and both the hero and heroine are realistic yet lovable. Definitely worth reading!
This was a great story and I had to keep reading to see how it ended. But I was shocked to see to see this sentence "Devyn flipped Nick the bird as she turned and left," . I just typed that to give a warning to other readers. I liked the story in spite of this. The rest of was clean with lots of kissing.
This is a romance thriller that keeps you turning the pages. Great characters that you won’t forget. I enjoyed the cold winter of Wyoming while reading this story in the heat of the summer. This is Kim McMahill’s best yet.
