Unwilling to admit to desires that fill her with shame, investigative journalist Jane Redford is on a mission to infiltrate and then bring down the Institute. But to her shock, soon after her arrival she discovers that those who run the Institute are fully aware of her intentions and have their own plans for her, starting with a thorough, humiliating punishment examination.
Publisher’s Note: A Punishment Exam for Jane is a short story set in the world of The Institute Series. It includes spankings, sexual scenes, extensive medical play, anal play, elements of BDSM, and more. If such material offends you, please don’t buy this book.
Emily Tilton, whose books have hit number one on Amazon in six different erotica categories, wishes she could live out her fantasies of submission the way her characters do.
Emily's erotica is a narrative version of her nearly lifelong quest to reconcile her submissive erotic orientation with her ethics. She writes erotic romance, but her books are always frankly and unashamedly about sex, because writing about sex helps her understand that fundamental part of her life better. She hopes maybe it does the same for her readers.
Over the many years since Emily became aware of her sometimes unbearable craving for spanking, ravishment, and all the shameful things that go with it, she has tried to come to terms with that craving in more ways than she can count. The first of the ways was by reading, voraciously, every piece of BDSM erotica she could find.
Eventually, she read "Story of O." As is reflected throughout her work, it changed her life, though the change has been gradual, and continues to this day. The idea that other women might share the lusts she has by turns been ashamed of and defiantly proud of, that a woman like the real Pauline Réage might write so beautifully of those lusts, and work them out so thoroughly and even pitilessly on a character, put Réage's famous pencil in her right hand. Or, to put it in the terms of EXPLORATIONS, which she considers her magnum opus, it put her left hand on the keyboard of her laptop and her right hand in her lap, if you know what she means. Emily started to write spanking stories.
This is an introduction to Emily Tilton's, Institute series...it starts, sets the scene, introduces both the Institute and what its aims are, and main characters, namely here, Jane and the dominant doctor who will give her her punishment exam.
For those who like med kink and humiliation you will love it. Those who don't you have been warned.
I found I was in a quandary as to how to rate this. It isn't a complete story...I wanted more, I want the whole Jane story...it doesn't do this. It stopped at the most erotic time of the exam. I was so frustrated I was tempted to down grade it to 2 star. But it is of decent quality and very erotic and deserves the four...but with notice of its disappointing stoppage point. As not a complete story it would have been nice if Emily lured us in with this as a freebie. It is 99p/99c and I could grouch more regards the pound value being worth considerably more than the dollar not on parity, so UK readers get doubly stung.
Yes, despite vowing no more seriaIs until completed collections are out, I have gone and bought the next, and much longer second part to the series and hope we see more of Jane...but looks like another character...why because it is just the right mix of BDSM, humiliation and erotica for me.
Wow, a smoking hot read for free?!! This was a quick steamy read and I was hooked from page one until the end. If you haven't read a book by Emily Tilton yet, then here is the perfect opportunity! You can't go wrong with a free book especially when the author is a fantastic writer! Read and enjoy, I certainly did :)
I couldn't really get into this book and then before I knew it it was over. I understand this was a teaser book to get people interested in her Institution series but I just couldn't and don't think i'll be checking out the rest of the series. Also, for a series teaser and how short it was free would have been nice. Instead i paid a dollar. Now i know a dollar isn't much but still, i feel cheated.
Don't get me wrong, I love other stories by Emily Tilton. Just not this one.
I wasn't sure what to expect with this story and it was different than most other novellas I've read. The story itself starts out with a plot, a young female investigative journalist, Jane, seeks to go under cover with an organization that is known for taking in and training women to be concubines. The organization claims the women are all suppressed submissives who are released and freed by the "training" they receive at the Institute before being sold or leased to an owner as a privately employed submissive.
The journalist believes they may be trafficking sex and women against their will, so this is her reason for finding a way to be "taken in" by the Institute's submissive training program, to write an expose and get the organization shut down. However, upon engaging with the Institute's process, she begins to wonder if she made a mistake, and she begins to doubt her real reasons for seeking out the Institute. Her intake interviewer suggests she registers as a highly submissive subject, but that she is not consciously aware of it, however the "training" will help her realize her true nature, as both a sexually submissive and combative woman, a brat. The Institute was already covertly monitoring her temperature and arousal levels with sensitive instruments during her intake interview, though apparently this and everything else Jane had already consented to via signing a contract.
She is told along the way what is to come. And as it unfolds, the anticipation builds along with her curiosity and emotional intensity. As a first step, she must submit to an invasive medical exam. The things you would expect from a medical fetish experience are largely present and the exam begins. It is clear from the beginning that her submission training will be primarily for anal sex, which both makes her nervous and highly aroused and intrigued.
There are punishments and sentiments of ambiguous (at best) consent, and though clearly included as BDSM play elements, it is not 100% clear the punishment level during her exam is truly what Jane desires. Perhaps that is meant to be corrective and her fighting back feeding into the *brat* she is destined to become, and certainly through experimentation one may find they are pushed farther than what they find enjoyable, and this can all be part of the journey, but I believe there is always a way to obtain the charge of a harsh punishment without appearing cruel or overly harsh. Some stories are meant to be more violent or cruel to feed that intensity into a Stockholm type attraction, but it is unclear if that is what unfolds here. It wasn't my preference, but it didn't spoil the momentum of the story.
The most unfortunate aspect of this story is it ends right before the most important portions of the medical exam (and her arousal) can occur - and it appears from other's reviews there is no direct sequel or continuity with any other books in the Institute series. Intentional, perhaps, but certainly makes the whole story less interesting, as there is no climactic moments drawn and no challenges or conflicts resolved - both usually key elements for suspenseful erotic romance.
If the story were complete and you could look past the slightly harsher-than-necessary punishments (or if that is a positive for you), then I could recommend this book. Since it is really just an opening that doesn't lead to another book, I can give the writing and plot four starts as a story starter, but only one star for not building up and resolving Jane's emotional (and sexually medical and apparently anal sex) journey. There really isn't any sex, only medical foreplay, and it seemed average, with the most interesting parts of the story being all the foretelling of what Jane would experience next. Two stars overall for a good start to what could be a full length sexy and steamy medical fetish and owned submissive romance.
This short story is a real tease. Jane is being subjected to a "punishment exam" by a doctor at the institute to train submissives and her reaction to the treatments is an awakening for Jane. Good and sexy story that teases you. I listened on Audible and the narrator was good. His stern voice matched the story well.
There are certain types of Erotica that make me cringe, this really isn't one of them. I like the alternate universe concept also. Hey this does involve some stuff that is not for the, putting it nicely, sexually faint of heart.
Very interesting story. Mostly sexual but of course hot, especially if you are a submissive. Unfortunately I think it was too short as I wanted it to continue as to see what was happening to Jane. But of course a HEA.
𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗟𝗟: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 𝗧𝗬𝗣𝗘: Novella • Erotica, part of a interconnected series (The Institute)
🏷️ 𝗛𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗦: - submissive training program
⛓️ 𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗞𝗦: - D/s dynamic training - impact play - med play
This felt like it cut off way too soon?! Like it ended right when it seemed like we were finally getting to the grand finale?! I thought it was a prequel maybe, but I couldn’t find a continuation (maybe I missed it?). I do know Jane is in later books within the other related series, when she’s working with The Institute (at least I’m assuming it’s the same Jane).
An incendiary story. Off the charts hot, if you're turned on by spankings, medical play, dirty talk, and reluctance.
Jane, an aspiring investigative journalist, attempted to infiltrate The Institute, an organization that trains submissives for sale as concubines to the uber-wealthy. She enters their training program under false pretenses, signs a contract, and then...Ha! Turns out the joke's on her, they know who she is. And, thanks to high tech gizmos that track her body's arousal, they know Jane really is submissive.
This story brazenly flirts with the border between noncon and reluctance. On the one hand, Jane signed a contract and she was prepared to go through the training program. On the other, she didn't think she'd have to go all-in. Now she's been outed, and she'll be forced to face her sexual needs, with no escape plan and no safe words.
It's a short read, ending at the 70% mark, in the middle of a scene. The remaining 30% gives synopses of Ms. Tilton's other books.
Jane thinks she has a foolproof plan for getting the scoop of a lifetime and exposing a trafficking scheme. The staff at The Institute see her coming and use their special methods to introduce her to her future. The setup takes up a lot of the story, and the exam isn't over when the story is. It would have been nice to get the entire exam into the first story.
This would have been a 5, likely, if it hadn't ended abruptly. I mean both the scene/story, and the short story itself abruptly ending at the 67% mark. Both together kept the story from getting that extra star (it didn't cost it the star, it had to earn it, and it didn't).
This story is more a tease compared to the other books in the Institute series that preceded it. The story doesn't get involved in the training or the life of the character. It is more a prequel then a sequel a very short story. I was kinda left hanging by the end. If longer probably would have rated it higher.
