Seven months. That’s all is was supposed to be. It was never meant to feel like this.
Between every game, every flight, every win and loss, there are moments nobody sees.
Cassie Bennett does.
As a sports photographer newly arrived in Denver, she’s made a career out of capturing the quiet intimacy hidden beneath professional baseball. The exhausted smiles. The grief behind good games. The humanity between bases.
Theo Maddox has spent years making sure nobody looks too closely at him.
The Denver Outlaws’ star first baseman keeps his world small, controlled, and carefully guarded…until Cassie crashes into it with sharp wit, endless warmth, and a habit of seeing things he’d rather keep hidden.
Over one unforgettable season, friendship blurs into something far more dangerous as they navigate healing, family, and the terrifying vulnerability of being truly known.
Because sometimes the greatest love stories aren’t found beneath stadium lights—
6 ⭐️ This book… Found Family- got it Love that spans across oceans- got it Sports- got it Emotional heartbreak- got it Phone throwing- yes in abundance
I haven’t read a sports book that’s captured me like this since Windy City. The way it hooks you in, holds your hand and takes you on an adventure. The imagery was just absolutely stunning, the sports was explained in a way even a novice would understand. The way you’re made to feel as part of the group. Side characters that leave lasting impressions! Harry “The Jet” Jetson will always be my favourite! Everything about this was perfection, I sobbed into my coffee, I practically threw my phone (onto soft surfaces of course) I read the final chapters clinging onto the kitchen bench for emotional support, only to sob like a child and immediately scream at the author for playing with my feelings like that. She laughed… of course.
If you have not added this to your TBR you are seriously missing out!
Between Bases by A.L. Jamieson is a refreshing, emotionally charged sports romance that hits a home run with its unique premise. Instead of the typical sports romance setup, we get to see the game through the lens of Cassie, an Australian photographer determined to capture the raw passion and heartbeat of American baseball.
When she crosses paths with Theo and the Outlaws, the chemistry is instant, but it's the ticking clock element that really drives the stakes of this book. Jamieson does a fantastic job building the tension around Cassie's looming departure back to Australia. You can feel the weight of the ticking clock as the Outlaws' season winds down, making every moment between Cassie and Theo feel incredibly high-stakes.
A reminder to always pay attention, between the bases.
A. L. Jamieson is my newest automatic read! Between Bases is a beautiful story of people's most important moments. The big things? The parts you let everyone see? The face you put on for those around you? That's the easy part. It's those quiet moments, the ones that are meant just for you, or, more fun than that, the moment meant just for one other person, the moments that happen "Between Bases". That's the good stuff. And A. L. Has flawlessly delivered those moments, big and small in such a beautifully written way.
It's a story of two people falling in love, sure. But it's also so much more!
This book is not the typical sports themed romance, it is actually equal parts sports and romance not alot of romance with some sport on the side.
It is written in a way that even if your not knowledgeable in baseball you can still follow along and can picture yourself there. Every character is loveable and feels like family. The romance is slow burn and sweet, the banter is funny and I really want to know what happens next.
As someone who loves sports photography for the "inbetween moments" I not only loved reading such a sweet story I really enjoyed reading a character who feels like I do when it comes to capturing sports moments.
Wow. The first thing that comes to mind. This was an amazing pop of the cherry to sports romance for me. Now for someone who has no idea on anything sports related at all, this was an easy read. The characters have amazing depth and description and are incredibly relatable. I 100% recommend this book to anyone who wants a good sports romance read. I am not going to give any spoilers, but read it (with aggressive/positive enforcement)
This book... I can't even explain how much I loved it! The writing is beautiful and it hooks you in from the very first chapter! Cassie is such a great representation of australia and the way her and Theo grow in their relationship is just beautiful!!
Highly recommend this book to anyone who loves sports in general.
I absolutely loved this book! I fell in love with the characters and just could not put it down. I enjoyed the grumpy x sunshine vibes and just how obsessed Cassie and Theo are for each other. I highly suggest you grab this book and settle in for a wonderfully wild ride!!
