An accident for Goldsmith Rhett leads to dangerous, dramatic encounters for financial survival.

I received an Advance Review Copy & I am leaving my honest opinion.
The main character in this novel is a young goldsmith named Rhett. He is following his dream of practicing his goldsmith craftsmanship in Newport News, Virginia. A sudden accident puts him in a situation that his conscious struggles with between right and wrong in order to financially survive. There are some very tense “doomsday” moments that are then met with peace and clarity when he is able to practice his goldsmith craftsmanship. One moment I would be feeling very agitated by this read with the dangerous life and death adventures on the James River. Some of these situations led to Coast Guard & FBI involvement. There were several love entanglements which were quite provocative. The area descriptions by the author has peaked my interest in visiting there. I was left with a sense of staying true to yourself and to follow your dreams even if it requires some very difficult negotiations. I will now look at jewelry thru a different lens of what artists might have to go thru to realize their dreams.

💙 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗜 𝗱𝗶𝗱.
Rhett was a genuinely likeable protagonist, and I enjoyed following his journey through the smuggling underworld of 1980s Hampton Roads. The setting felt fresh, the boat action kept things moving, and one scene involving shark tooth hunting was an unexpected highlight.
I found myself waiting for the story to build on its intriguing premise a little sooner. Once it expanded beyond its initial setup, I was left wishing those ideas had been given more room to breathe.
An enjoyable thriller with a memorable setting and a protagonist I'd happily follow again, even if this story didn't quite come together in the way I'd hoped.
