Flawed Cadaver is an incredibly complex and artistic collection of poetry in which Jay exposes the best and the worst of himself. In it Jay gives us a disarmingly honest picture of his heart, soul, fears, and struggles, and quite frankly, it is impossible not to see oneself within the pages of this book.

Although I typically read a book or more per week, I found myself often unable to leave some of the poems of Flawed Cadaver behind. By the end of the book, I had a dozen or so bits of paper marking poems that called to me especially. Unlike many poetic works, those of Flawed Cadaver are deeply personal, bearing a window into Jay’s soul. In them we see Jay call out to his Creater in anguish, and we hear both despair and disappointment in an admittedly imperfect and incomplete self.

Flawed Cadaver is not light reading. Each poem is full of emotion, depth, and rich color. It is deep and complex if nothing else. If you have no fears, no struggles, no shattered dreams; this book is not for you. If, however, you have on any occasions come to the end of yourself and your own abilities, if you’ve ever experienced regret or confliction, if you have ever felt that hole inside longing to be full; you will likely quickly lose yourself within these lines of poetry.

First things first I am not someone who reads a lot of poetry. So, I'm not sure if I am fully capable of understanding the depth of "Flawed Cadaver" by Dakota Jay. But yeah, I'm going to try anyway. The first thing you're going to notice is all the darkness, or the harsh realities we encounter in our lives. We are humans and we all make mistakes. However, hope is always there, the effort to break free of everything that is holding a person down. This poetry collection is all about being human. Accepting the darkness one has and trying to overcome them. Here's a verse:

"I find a deep urge
To explore
To be
To breathe
And find purpose.
But don’t we all?
So what makes me any different?"

If you're someone who's into poetry then you should definitely read this collection. Even if you don't read poetry that much, like me, you should still read it and give your mind something to think about.

Flawed Cadaver is a book full of different expressions in each page, beautifully laid in a poetic manner. Gave me a lot of thoughts to really think about what life has at different situations. A great poetic book, which invokes thoughts from different angles and open you up, to feel for more.
