She came to rescue the man hiding in the mountains and found the one she still wanted.
Malcolm vanished from Hog Wash six years ago, leaving behind the friends, work, and community that once mattered to him. When Josie finds him back in town, her old childhood crush returns with a very adult edge. He’s bigger, rougher, guarded, and determined to retreat again. She has other plans.
Tired of letting her brothers shape her choices, Josie follows Malcolm into the mountains with one reckless goal: remind him that people still care. Her rescue attempt is chaotic and impossible to ignore, especially when she makes it clear she isn’t there just because of the past. She wants him now.
Malcolm knows all the reasons he should resist. She’s his former best friend’s little sister, she’s younger, and wanting her means reopening parts of his life he’s kept shut for years. But Josie’s certainty gets under his guard, and their attraction turns intensely physical, possessive, and unexpectedly tender.
The closer they get, the more Malcolm has to decide whether isolation is what he wants, while Josie discovers that choosing him is also part of learning to choose herself. Their connection becomes about more than desire, giving both of them the courage to stop living according to old wounds and other people’s expectations.
Josie grows bolder in claiming what she wants and trusting her own voice, while Malcolm shifts from guarded and self-isolating toward vulnerable, devoted, and willing to belong again. Together, they turn rekindled attraction into intense intimacy, emotional honesty, and a partnership that gives them both room to become themselves.
An ultra-steamy, brother’s best friend, childhood crush, mountain man, small town romance with instalove, protective possessiveness, playful pursuit, and emotional healing. It’s about independence, belonging, vulnerability, trust, and finding the courage to choose the life and love you actually want.
The Elevator Pitch: A woman determined to finally choose for herself follows her childhood crush into the mountains, where the guarded man she remembers has built a life around being alone. Their attraction burns through old boundaries quickly, but wanting each other means confronting the friendships, loyalties, and hurt Malcolm left behind. What begins as a reckless rescue mission becomes a fiercely intimate chance for two people to reclaim belonging on their own terms.
Heat Level: 🔥🔥🔥 Ultra-Steamy / Erotic Romance

I had such a lovely time reading Rescuing the Mountain Man! Malcolm’s return to Josie’s life gives this quick romance an immediately appealing setup, especially with their shared history and her determination to bring him out of the isolation he has chosen.
Josie’s willingness to go after the man who was once her childhood crush—and her brother’s best friend—makes the story lively and easy to root for. The mountain setting, the reunion, and the promise of a happily ever after come together in a warm, satisfying read that is perfect when you want a complete romantic story in one sitting.
Abby Jensen does a wonderful job keeping the writing engaging and the story moving while giving Malcolm and Josie a connection that’s worth cheering for. I especially enjoyed the upbeat, heartfelt tone. Fans of quick mountain-man romances, second-chance connections, and feel-good endings should find plenty to enjoy here!.

This was such a sweet short read. If you enjoy off limits, age gap, brothers best friend grumpy vs. sunshine romance, then you don’t want to miss this one.
Josie is twenty two, and has two older over protective brothers. She has given into their demands long enough and this time she is taking charge of her life. She had a childhood crush on her oldest brother’s best friend. She hasn’t seen him in years….imagine her surprise to see him at the fall festival. She realizes her childhood feelings haven’t gone away. Her reintroduction occurs after she sprays him in the face with perfume.
She is full of joy and decides that grumpy Malcolm needs rescuing.
Malcolm moved to the mountains six years ago. Leaving his life in Hogwash behind. He reluctantly attends the fall festival at his sister’s request. He doesn’t want to be seen by anyone he knows…then he runs into Josie. Josie has grown up. Now he can’t stop thinking about her. Boy is he surprised to find her waiting for him on top of his roof. That’s just the beginning. She wants to rescue a man that doesn’t realize he needs to be rescued.
The antics of Josie are hilarious. Such an enjoyable read.

Nobody rescues people quite like Josie
I really like Josie, she is her own little disaster zone waiting to happen and once she decides that
Malcolm needs "rescuing" from his solitary mountain man life she leaves an amusing trail of destruction in her wake. From spraying perfume in his eyes, to stalking him, crashing into his truck and falling through his roof, she may not do "rescuing" in the normal way but she does succeed in rescuing Malcolm from himself and brings him back into the community. She's a disaster but she's his disaster who is perfect for him and, once he finishes laughing at her antics, he worships every inch of her. Sweet, funny and sexy, this is a great read on Kindle Unlimited.

A real twist, the heroine, Josie goes straight to rescuing her hunk of a giant reclusive mountain man, Malcolm and admits her devotion. Enjoyed how she makes him really laugh when she admits to endeavouring to rescue him, after a series of slight accidents that you'll have to read about. Fortunately he is on the same page and there is some real heat and a beautiful attachment between them. Malcolm eventually reconnects with two close friends, Josie's brothers and comes down to live in the town again. There is a back story to why he isolated himself and past grievances that are resolved. Bit of humour injected about the rilvary between police and the fire department.

Her Determination and Perseverance Finally Paid Off -
I am an avid romance reader of mountain men romance story and I can assure you Abbey Jensen didn’t disappoint with this captivating story, where you can feel the warmth and connections from the characters. Furthermore, the level of spiciness was at the right level and there is no major drama depicted in the storyline. If you are looking for your next engaging romance story engaging, that has everything you to keep you entertained for an hour, then look no further than Malcolm and Josie’s love story.

Super quick read. The MMC is a former firefighter who retreated to the mountains after a huge fight with his best friend. The FMC is that friend’s little sister. She sees him at the town’s fall festival. She kind of stalks him at his house. That’s where their story really begins. The spice is good and the HEA is great.

Stalker
This is the story of a mountain man who is hiding from everyone, and the woman who will not let anything stand in her way of rescuing the man she loves. They reconnect in the maze, she sprays him with perfume, and there is laughter. And she is a stalker.
