The death of a beloved fourth-grade teacher has haunted Andrew Tyler his entire life. Was it really an accidental death or was she murdered? And if it was only an accident, why did her ghost haunt the hallways of the old, abandoned school in Polo, Illinois? Andrew calls on Mary O’Reilly to solve the mystery and catch a killer who is still on the loose in the small town.
Terri Reid is the author of the Mary O’Reilly Paranormal Mysteries. An indie author, Reid uploaded her first book “Loose Ends” in August 2010. By the end of 2012, “Loose Ends” had sold over 82,000 copies and, as of the writing of this bio, was the number one bestselling book in Amazon’s ranking of Ghost Stories in the Book/Literature & Fiction/Genre Fiction/Horror/Ghosts section and the number two in the same area in the Kindle eBooks section. She has eight other books in the Mary O’Reilly Series and has enjoyed Top Rated and Hot New Release status for many of them in the Women Sleuths category through Amazon US. Her books have been translated into Spanish and Portuguese and are also now available through CreateSpace and Amazon in print versions. She is also working on an audiobook for “Loose Ends.” Reid has been quoted in several books about the self-publishing industry, including “Let’s Get Digital” by David Gaughran and “Interviews with Indie Authors: Top Tips from Successful Self-Published Authors” by Claire and Tim Ridgway. She was also honored to have some of her works included in A. J. Abbiati’s book “The NORTAV Method for Writers—The Secrets to Constructing Prose Like the Pros.” She has also had the distinct privilege of guest blogging for Joe Konrath. Reid is from Northwest Illinois, near the town of Freeport, the home of her fictional characters. Her background is in marketing and public relations. She is married, the mother of seven children, and the grandmother of twenty-three. She has her grandchildren convinced that she talks to fairies and animals - and they talk back.
After the (wrong in my opinion) detour to the demon world that Book 14 took, I was happy to have them virtually eliminated in this book except for a mention from Mike they had "bought some time" before worrying about them. Hopefully it will be a lot of time as I don't think the series needs that plot line and should remain the ghostly mystery series it has been.
In this book, Mary is a couple of months away from giving birth and still working hard--in this case to solve the murder of a teacher forty years ago and brought to her by the teacher's former student. The case takes a more dangerous turn than anticipated as the murderer does not want to be discovered and will kill again to stop it. The usual characters Mary and her family and friends are back in fine form and the subplots deal with step-daughter Clarissa trying to see ghosts and find one for a story to use in one of the O'Reilly family traditions, and a secret baby shower planned for Mary.
Always a quick and fun read for me, I like this charming series and am happy (& hoping that it stays) back on track.
Forty years ago, a young teacher was found dead at the foot of the school staircase. Although her case was considered accidental, one of her young pupis grew up believing it was not an accident. And so he contacts Mary and asks her to investigate. But this case has more danger than Mary anticipates....danger that could fatally harm her and her unborn baby. This is another great entry in the Mary O'Reilly paranormal mystery series. Events take place very shortly after the last book in this series, with Hallloween preparations continuing in the household. This story, like the others, is filled with mystery, ghosts and always with love and friendship that encompasses Mary and her family. I look forward to the next book in this series.
Mary O'Reilly is called to investigate the tragic death of Andrew Tyler's fourth grade teacher, a death that was ruled an accident forty years ago but still haunts Andrew. The case is more dangerous than a very pregnant Mary expected as the killer is still around and does not want to be found! I love this series and all the wonderful, witty, and loving characters that Terri Reid has created in her world of paranormal mystery. I can't wait for the next book! A ghostly Mystery with heart!
I love when an author creates characters I'd like as friends.
I've now read all 15 of the Mary O'Reilly series, and I can't wait for the next. Terri Reid has created a cast of characters that are so real, so engaging, that finishing each book is like saying goodbye to friends. Reid's stories are more than just paranormal mysteries, she makes you care about Mary, Bradley and all their friends, as well as the poor ghosts that Mary is trying to help. It is very rare that an author can bring me to tears, but Terri Reid has done it and I can't praise her enough.
If you are already a fan of the Mary O'REILLY series, This book will not disappoint you . If you aren't yet a fan of the series, what are you waiting for. With characters you want to hang out with and entertaining story lines the whole series should be your summer reading list.
I absolutely love Terri Reid's Mary O'Reilly series. The story is just the right pace, it's clean but spooky, and you will adore all of the secondary characters. I really hope another story about Sean O'Reilly comes out soon! A great family written by a talented author.
I LOVE this series. In all honesty, I have suffered for years from clinical depression, and was suffering from a very serious downturn. This series helped get me through. The friendship, the camaraderie, the family, the love and laughter, helped tremendously. It was extremely helpful in getting me to that turning point back to me.
I laughed till my belly hurt, then cried until I couldn't see the words. I felt anger and betrayal for those whose journey was suspended. I found redemption, grace, and, most of all, hope. I loved the ghosts/spirits (except for those malevolent ones), the mortals, the story lines and resolutions. I loved the lessons these stories conveyed, and the poignancy with which they were told.
I have several favorite characters, Mary and Bradley (and, by extension, Clarissa), being the foundation. Ian is someone I want to meet, and get to know, and just listen to him talk. Hopefully, he wears the black shirt (but don't tell Gillian I said that...it's strictly platonic, I swear). Mike. Dear Mike. I cried so hard for him for some reason, especially the role he was given. It was a sweetness that I didn't even know i was craving. I love Mike. I want Mike on my side. Always. Rosie & Stanley, such a opposites-attract couple, yet full of love. The O'Reilly clan. Can I move in with them?? Or maybe just visit Ireland with Sean??
I suspended all other reading until I got through the entire series, and feel as though these characters are my friends and family. Please, please, please, give me more!
Note: I would love to give this series 4 1/2 stars, or even 5, but the grammatical and punctuation errors just don't cut it for me. Miss Terri, your writing is superb. Let it be polished until it glows. Let me be your proofreader (beta reader?).
Much more to my liking. I honestly hope we don't revisit the demon story line. I prefer the good old fashioned mystery stories with a few ghosts scattered around. My one problem was the continuity issue with Mary's costume. We spent a lot of time in the previous book on the costume and Rosie provided 2 that Mary loved and took home. Neither of those were the Gypsy costume she wore in this book. Terri's cameo was cute but I hope it was a one time thing.
I love this writer. I love her characters the O’Reily family, Stanley and Rosie and the Brenan clan. Ian is the cherry on top. If you love ghosts, mystery, romance and a good laugh then start reading this series. Plus, you will love the story of Sean and his tales as well in Chicago. Keep writing the adventures and I will keep reading your excellent work.
When Mary is visited by a recently murdered ghost, she must continue his investigation into who killed his favorite teacher decades before. While Mary and Bradley eagerly await the birth of their child, new dangers related to investigation threaten, will there be a happy ending this time??
I just couldn't put it down. I recommend this entire series for mystery lovers everywhere. If you don't believe in ghosts, you will after reading this series.
Mary has three more months of her pregnancy to go she is at the moment feeling her hormones out of whack. Thinking that her two best friends do not want her around anymore by not inviting her to go shopping and such. She doesn't realize that everyone from her family members and her dearest friends are in on a secret to surprise her at her baby shower on Halloween. Mary's ghostly capers in this novel revolve around a former 4th grade teacher by the name of Kristen Banks who was killed by being pushed down the school stairs but it was made to look like an accident. Andrew Tyler another ghost who was actually the pupil of Ms. Banks had gone to Mary to hire her to look into the mysterious nature of his former teacher's death. The killer was an unusual twist in the end
Love these books. Love the characters and the humor mixed in with the paranormal. I can usually expect a happy ending. To date there has been a happy outcome in each book.
Mary O'Reilly is very pregnant in this book and dealing with all the pleasures of pregnancy--having to urinate all the time, wanting to eat, body image problems, and dealing with a pregnant body which may not move quite as well or quickly as the nonpregnant one. She also experiences the hormonal shifts that made her feel that her friends Kate and Rosie didn't want to be her friends any more when she saw them out shopping without her. All they were doing was shopping for supplies for a surprise baby shower.
Mary is approached by Andrew who wants Mary to investigate the murder of his fourth grade teacher, Kristen. In the meantime, Clarissa wants to learn to see ghosts and enlists Maggie's help. The first ghost Clarissa meets is Abraham Lincoln.
This story has a unique twist that made it even more interesting.
Terri Reid remained true to her roots in book 15 of her Mary O'Reilly series. Many of her characters from past books make an appearance. My favorites are her daughter Clarissa and her friend Maggie who can both see ghosts. Guardian Angel Mike is there helping behind the scenes as well as a seriously ill character that engenders pity more than hatred for misguided actions. This is a great easy read that will allow the reader to dwell in Freeport for a few hours before facing their own reality.
