Rate this book

I think that it is very possible that I just found my favorite book of 2014. Loving Mr. Daniel’s was THAT GOOD. I can’t think of one thing I didn’t love about this story. The impact it had on me was major. I laughed, I cried, I loved every single page. I can’t recommend this one enough.

Ashlyn Jennings is a girl after my own heart...
You know what the best thing about purses was? They could carry around books.
But on a more serious note, Ashlyn has dealt with a loss. Not a normal loss, a profound loss that has changed her entire world. Her life has been turned upside down and she’s just trying to survive, pick up the pieces amongst all the changes.

 photo 0e4ccc56-adda-405c-90a6-7c682d59f33f_zpsede3882e.jpg

She’s starting her senior year off in a new place surrounded by strangers. On her way to her new place, she runs into a guy. A gorgeous guy who happens to grab her attention in a big way.
His eyes were so blue and filled with interest. For a second, I thought they were a passageway to a different world.
Beautiful.
Breathtaking.
Brilliant.
Blue eyes.
I sighed. Maybe there were a passageway to a better world.
When these two met and connected, I felt the world shift. They define the words ‘meant to be’. From the first time they hang out together, you can just tell. They have a deep connection. They have so much in common it’s uncanny. For the first time in a long time, Ashlyn feels something besides grief, sadness and anger.
“You know what I like about you so far?”

“What’s that?”

“Everything.”

Daniel makes her feel things she’s never felt. The texts, the letters, the Shakespeare. Things between them just click into place. Until Ashlyn’s first day of school, that is. Ashlyn struggles. With loving Daniel, and Mr. Daniels being her teacher. It takes her a while to see that they really are one in the same.
He was still there. Daniel wasn’t merely Mr. Daniels- he was still himself. And I was still on his mind, the same way he lived in mine. Maybe there weren’t two different Daniels. Maybe Mr. Daniels was just another part of him. So it wasn’t surprising that I had fallen for both sides of the coin. I was crazy about all of him- the good, the bad, and the broken pieces. I think I liked the broken pieces the most.

 photo d0c1e020-bb9e-4a0a-ad7b-d483d1f647d0_zps1cbc7844.jpg
“I think you’re beautiful. And I don’t mean your looks. I mean your smarts, your protectiveness, your brokenness. I think that’s beautiful.”

“I don’t want to be your friend. I want to be yours, I want you to be mine, and I hate that we can’t be us. Because I think we were meant to be us.”

I could go on and on about this story all day, but it would be an injustice for me to try and retell any of the rest. It’s one you have to read for yourself.

Both characters are magnificent. I loved the Shakespeare ties between them. It was ‘their thing’. Daniel may be the most romantic and swoonworthy hero ever. He quotes poetry, he’s a musician, and he is just too sweet and lovable. Ashlyn was relatable. She was strong, brave and wonderful. They were both real.

And it wasn’t just the two of them that I loved. Some of the supporting characters were just as essential to the story as Ashlyn and Daniel were. Hailey, Ryan, even Gabby. Ryan stole my heart from the moment I met him. Favorite character of the book right there.

The love between Daniel and Ashlyn was powerful. It was beautiful and it was eternal. If you believe in people being soul mates, being meant to be, this couple will solidify that. If you don’t believe in that sort of thing, after reading LMD, you just might.

This story was so much more than just a romance between a student and a teacher. SO MUCH MORE. It’s a story of forgiveness, of healing, finding acceptance, following your dreams and following your heart. There were so many quotes that moved me.
“The best things in life aren’t easy. They are tough, they are painful, and they are raw. That makes the arrival to the final destination that much sweeter.”

“Pretending to be happy is almost like being happy. Until you remember that you’re only pretending. Then you’re sad. Really sad. Because wearing a mask every day of your life is the hardest thing to do. After a while, you get a little scared because the mask becomes you.”

“Humans weren’t made to be perfect, Daniel. We were made to screw up, fuck up, and learn new things. We were made perfectly imperfect.”

Maybe home wasn’t a location. Maybe it’s simply the people who you were surrounded with that make you feel as you could be whoever you wanted to be. Maybe home was friendship.

I fell in love with this book. Completely and utterly in love. I was inspired and moved by what I read. The very best student/teacher book I’ve ever read. There were so many times I forgot it was a student/teacher book. I was so focused on the all consuming love between these two people. There was some conflict, but there was so much more to the story. There was a part of this story that gutted me. My cried and teared up more than once, but one scene in particular destroyed me. But I wasn’t in tears the entire time... I had a huge grin on my face for a lot of the book. The was laughter, tears and the feeling of a full heart once I’d finished.

LMD is one of the most beautiful stories I’ve ever read. It was perfect, perfect. The writing was out of this world. There were parts that reminded me of a Coleen Hoover book, and other parts that reminded me of a Jessica Park book (they are two of my favorite authors) and a lot of it was a style all of Ms. Cherry’s own. I just want everyone I know to pick this book up, read it, and come back to me and tell me how much you loved it too! It was a truly ‘GOLDEN’ read and one I can’t recommend enough!
“You’re the reason people believe in tomorrow. You’re the voice that scares the shadows away. You’re the love that makes me breathe.”

★★★★! Loving Mr. Daniels (stand-alone). In the wake of tragedy two lost souls, one teacher, one student find solace & healing in each other!

“I loved how distant we were but how close we felt.”

Loving Mr. Daniel (stand-alone) opens up to the aftermath of Ashlyn Jennings losing her best friend and twin sister to leukemia. Her mom ships her off to a small town to live with her estranged father and his new family. On the train she spots a handsome blue-eyed stranger who invites her to watch his band play.

They feel an instant attraction, but also as deeper kinship as both have tragic pasts neither has dealt with. After the concert they set a date, but before they can go out Ashlyn discovers that Daniel Daniels is her new English teacher, Mr. Daniels.

Story follows them during the school year and into the future as they both cope with life, loss, love, tragedy, healing and forgiveness. All set against their forbidden friendship and a relationship that grows despite their better judgment.

“I want to make love to you everywhere twice.”

Five words to describe Daniel Daniels, Mr. Daniels: Charming, noble, patient, loyal and sweet.

Five words to describe Ashlyn Jennings: Broken, reflective observant, progressive and sweet.

Loving Mr. Daniel told from dual POVs, is a mixture of coming of age, forbidden romance and an against-all-odds love. Including epilogue, it spans years and was both ansty and sweet.

Poignant! Hopeful! Beautiful! It’s a story I will remember.

“I was the luckiest. Because for a moment he loved me back.”

I love nothing like I love a taboo love story. So, it is no big surprise that this book had been sitting on my TBR for quite some time. Finally, I decided to download the audiobook and give it a listen. I am so glad that I did. This book was incredible!

First off, let me say that it was not the dirty, sordid affair that I had envisioned in my perverted mind. Yes, there is the obvious taboo nature of a student-teacher affair. However, it was almost easy to forget that that relationship dynamic existed. They just fit together so well, that there wasn't the obvious power differential that you'd expect in a student-teacher relationship. This was probably due, in part, to the fact that their ages were so close together.

In addition, Daniel, aka Mr. Daniels, actually meets Ashlyn outside of school without knowing that she was a student at the high school where he teaches. At only 22 years old, he might be the youngest high school teacher in history. Likewise, at 19 years old, Ashlyn is an anomaly as well.

Needless to say, a 22 year-old and 19 year-old don't feel quite as taboo as a forty-something and an underage teen. So, as much as I love a naughty, salacious story, that wasn't what ended up being the draw for this story. It was just a sweet, heartwarming love story, with a touch of the forbidden.

I don't want to give too much of this story away, but I will say that both of these characters had tons of baggage. They were both so broken, that it was difficult to watch. Finding each other was their saving grace. I don't think that anyone else would have been able to "get through" to either of these characters. It was meant to be.

The supporting characters were also superb. I loved Hailey and Ryan. Even Ashlyn's deadbeat dad, Henry, won me over eventually. The backstories were engaging and enlightening, helping to move things along and highlight significant facets of their lives.

There isn't anything that I'd change about this story. It made me cry. It made me smile. The narration was fabulous. I couldn't have found a better standalone story to pass the time. I loved every minute of this book!

Yes, I am fully aware that I will be in the minority, but I don't care. I must speak my peace.
(WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW.) Things I couldn't stand
Note: I already know how bitchy this is all going to sound. WHAT FOLLOWS IS A RANT...
1) 2%-32% on my Kindle was Ashlynn. And then, out of nowhere, Daniel's POV comes out of hiding and a nice flow of one chapter Ashlynn, the next chapter Daniel, forms. I didn't like that. I'd gotten comfortable with Ashlynn's POV, so when his popped up I was a little disappointed.

2) There is a dead epidemic going on:
Daniel's mother: Dead.
Daniel's father: Dead.
Daniel's former girlfriend, Sarah: Dead.
Ashlynn's twin sister: Dead.
Randy's parents and sister: Dead.

3) Too many quotes by Shakes. We get it, they're obsessed with literature. But no man, I don't care how romantic he is, is going to quote Shakes before going down on a woman. And if he did, I would be questioning what the hell was wrong with him.

4) Ashlynn pity party. Apparently she's the only one hurting and because of that she can lash out at anyone she wants, including: Rebecca, Henry ect...No. I found it hard to like her during certain chapters and I'm still not convinced that she's this "sweet girl".

5) The letters from Gabby. (Been there, read that.) I was reminded of A Walk to Remember, when Landon started fulfilling Jamie's list. When Daniel kissed Ashlynn in the bar, I thought of Landon. When Ashlynn saw Daniel at the cemetary and they got all cozy, I thought of Landon and Jamie searching for stars at the cemetary.

6) Ryan dies at 73%. What was the purpose of this, exactly? I don't know. To add more drama?

7) I don't buy for a second that Ashlynn had never had an orgasm before Daniel came along. Not with the way she touched herself in his Jeep.

8) The sex scenes were never played out fully, except for one. I don't know what people consider this book to be (Erotica, New Adult, Romance ect) but it is definitely not Erotica.

9) Constantly pointing out the obvious. For example: She see's the cereal and marshmallows on the table. "You got me Cap'n Crunch and added marshmallows?" or She saw the letter lying on the bed. "You read my letter?!!!" (There was too much repetetiveness.)

10) The word perfectly imperfect. If I read this word 50 years from now, it would still be too soon. Every time perfectly imperfect popped up on my kindle, I thought of Demi Lovato, Joe Jonas, and that damn Camp Rock song that played a few summers ago.
Insert chord from "Wouldn't Change a Thing" by Demi and Joe.
We're perfectly imperfect, but I wouldn't change a thing.... *ORCHESTRA FINGERS* Everybody sing the chorus...in 1...2....3

11) Ryan dies and all Ashlynn can think of is Daniel and her twin. It's like Ryan never existed. There is no mourning on her end, nothing. One would think it's because she's "shed too many tears" but I thought it was just laziness. She can cry over Daniel not texting her, but she can't mourn over Ryan taking his own life. (2 pages isn't mourning.)

12) Ashlynn, Ashlynn, Ashlynn. It was all about Ashlynn all the time. Screw the fact that Daniel lost his entire family (except for his brother). She's that kind of person. The one who, no matter what you've been through, she's been through worse.
Example: If someone were to say "I've had a kidney stone" Ashlynn would say something like "Well I was sick when I was younger and got held back..."
She's just not likable at all.

13) All anyone did in this book was cry. You can't make it through one chapter without Ashlynn crying for some reason. Even something as petty as people whispering about her. Really? Sooo damn frustrating.

He would come; I knew he would. If Daniel Daniel's loved me the way I knew he did, he would show up.
"I'm sad." I said breathily
Oh please....She acts like a 4-year-old!

"Twisted" fans, (aka Emma Chase fans) would probably like this. Ashlynn pulls a Kate at the end and throws out a "I want to be on my own to prove I can do it."
There is so much back and forth in this book from both Ashlynn and Daniel. They broke up like 4 or 5 times throughout this and I honestly don't know how that appeals to people lol. If you're not ready to have your character commit, then hold off using the word "Boyfriend" for a while. Don't make it exclusive! Easy fix, there ya go!

So Ashlynn leaves to find herself...Right at the 90% mark in my Kindle. Three years pass by in 6 pages. Enter: RUSHED ENDING. Ladies, she was gone for a total of 8 pages.

Conclusion: 2 stars. (Reasons are listed above...)
I can't find it in me to like this book or hate it entirely. At times the Shakes quotes were sweet, and then just stupid. We never heard much about his ex-girlfriend Sarah, whom Daniel had confessed he would still be with had she not passed. That story was just tossed to the side and left unfinished. We don't know what happened to Bentley. Did he finally move on? What's going on there? I briefly thought Hailey and Randy had a connection at the funeral, but it was over as fast as it started. Did she finally make peace with Ryan's death? And most importantly, what about Rebecca? TOO MANY OPEN DOORS.
In the end, Ashlynn was a hypocrite. She did exactly what her mother did to her. She ran away (to California) and blocked everyone out.
So no, I don't really like this book. I'm not sure if it's because the ending was tied in a pretty white bow or...It just wasn't my thing.

Ohhh I loved this one!!!! “Love loved” it actually. And yes, that’s a double ;)

This beautiful story was so much more than a romance. It took me by surprise in the best of ways. It was a love story and it was a life story. All kinds of love, all kinds of life. I laughed, I cried and I totally felt it!!

The first thing that drew me to this story was the blurb. My heart was racing from the moment I came across it and I just knew this was a book I had read…

To Whom it May Concern,

It was easy to call us forbidden and harder to call us soulmates. Yet I believed we were both. Forbidden soulmates.

When I arrived to Edgewood, Wisconsin I didn’t plan to find him. I didn’t plan to stumble into Joe’s bar and have Daniel’s music stir up my emotions. I had no clue that his voice would make my hurts forget their own sorrow. I had no idea that my happiness would remember its own bliss.

When I started senior year at my new school, I wasn’t prepared to call him Mr. Daniels, but sometimes life happens at the wrong time for all the right reasons.

Our love story wasn’t only about the physical connection.

It was about family. It was about loss. It was about being alive. It was silly. It was painful. It was mourning. It was laughter.

It was ours.

And for those reasons alone, I would never apologize for loving Mr. Daniels.

-Ashlyn Jennings

So I thought I knew what to expect from this book — a forbidden student-teacher romance, right? — but what I got from this story went above and beyond my every expectation. It surprised me, thrilled me, captivated me. It made me swoon, it made me cry, it made me laugh. It took me on an absolutely unforgettable journey.

“I don’t want to be your friend… I want to be yours, I want you to be mine, and I hate that we can’t be us. Because I think we were meant to be us.”

The main story follows Ashlyn — a 19 year-old student who had just lost her beloved twin sister to cancer. Reeling from the loss, she’s further devastated when her mother sends her to Wisconsin to live with her estranged father and his new family. On the train, she meets a guy — a 22-year-old gorgeous, blue-eyed musician who she later goes to see perform….

“I couldn’t believe that girl deserved to be so sad. I secretly hoped that someday someone could make her smile… I hoped someday she would be all right.”

They have this beautiful, intense connection, this breathless spark between them which is shaken on the day they both walk into class… her as a student, him as her teacher.

“Was I dating my English teacher? Was what we were doing truly unethical? Falling in love? Could falling in love ever be wrong?”

The conflict of their situation gave me butterflies. It was thrilling and heart-wrenching all at the same time. Their relationship was completely forbidden, yet having what they could never indulge in right in front of them each day was just consuming them. I think this was one of my favorite quotes from Daniel that perfectly described what they were going through…

“I hated that I couldn’t tell her how beautiful she looked each and every day. I hated that, when she walked into my classroom, I had to pretend that she wasn’t on my mind…. I hated how close we were but how distant we felt.”

“I loved how beautiful she looked each and every day. I loved that, when she walked into my classroom, she was on my mind…. I loved how distant we were but how close we felt.”

Gosh, how beautiful is that??

But this is about so much more than just a romance. So much more!!!! When Ashlyn moves in with her father’s family, she becomes close with the two teenage children of the woman he was living with. Each of them are so different and yet they’re each hiding pain behind their masks of happiness and despite their differences, they all quickly form a very tight bond. Hailey was a hoot (I loved her!!) but the poor girl was searching for happiness in all the wrong places. And Ryan just made my heart squeeze. I don’t want to say too much but his pain went so deep that even thinking about it now makes me choked up.

“I was lost, but so were they.
There were no maps to be found.
At least I wasn’t walking alone.”

Not only were the siblings Hailey and Ryan a central part of the story, but the author found an absolutely beautiful way to incorporate Ashlyn’s twin, Gabby, into her life even though she wasn’t physically there. More than once, the deeply moving notes she’d left behind brought tears to my eyes and I’d want to stop and read them twice just to re-experience their beauty.

The supporting characters played such a vital role in this book. I really felt like it was as much their story as it was Ashlyn and Daniel’s. Their journeys complimented the story. brought an added depth to it, and left us with some very profound messages that I think will resonate with a lot of people.

I loved the whole emotional spectrum that this book made me experience as the story progressed through first love, sibling bonds, new friendships, healing families, coming of age, finding oneself, living dreams … all of it just came together in a way I couldn’t help but feel deep down in my heart.

“Daniel,” I whispered… “You’re doing it.”
“Doing what?”
“Bringing me back to life.”

Even just thinking back on the story brings a smile to my face and makes my heart both ache and feel full at the same time. I truly loved it but in the interest of full honesty, I’ll say that it wasn’t perfect for me. As I read, I felt myself fall in love with the story but then there’d be moments (more in the first half of the book) when I’d drift away from my connection a little, only to then be drawn back in … and I did make note of a few things that bothered me while I was reading but now that I’ve finished my read and I’m looking back on it, the only things that stand out to me are the positive things that I loved so I’m just going to say that while this book wasn’t perfect, I still completely loved it and highly recommend it for everyone.

This is the kind of story that stays in your heart long after you’ve finished reading it. Brittainy C. Cherry has written a stunning novel and I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next!

Rating: 4.5+ stars. Standalone New Adult Romance.

I am totally in the minority on this one, but I just didn't really like this...

I felt like someone took PS I Love You, A Walk to Remember, Until November, Slammed, and some random YA cliches and threw them all in a blender together and hit the "smoothie" button.

Plus, I think it was just too sappy and over the top in the cutesy department for my tastes.

***Spoilers Ahead***

But mostly, I felt that there was death overkill.

Ashlyn's twin died.
Daniel's mother is murdered...
His Dad dies...
For shit's sake, even the poor guy's first girlfriend died.
Hailey and Ryan's Dad also dies.

All from awful disease or tragic accident.

And then Ryan dies too?!

Seriously?!?!?!?! *face palm*

This author should write for Sons of Anarchy or Game of Thrones since she likes to kill everyone off. Either that or she was trying to create drama and character complexity through the old death plot device short cut. When in doubt, kill someone off!

I don't know, it just seemed like overkill (pun absolutely intended) to me and I just didn't buy it.

"I’ve never seen two people who loved each other so quietly."

➦This is a forbidden romance between a teacher and a student. The main characters meet before they realize they are a teacher/student and make a connection. Needless to say they are bummed out once this fact is revealed. And so they fight the temptation.

❤This novel is about loss and love. I loved that the mcs connected through their love of poetry. This novel kind of reminded me of Amy Harmon's A Different Blue by Amy Harmon with the whole poetry quoting that was going on here. The book is romantic and even steamy at times.

✘If I were to point out one thing I didn't like it would be the tone of the book. It was very... well, gloomy. It also touched on a lot of sensitive subjects, like death, alcoholism, repressed homosexuality. There's whole lot of death in this book and I thought it was a bit of an overkill.

➦I recommend this book to those who enjoy forbidden romances, books with an emphasis on poetry and music.

➦Side note: this is my second book by Brittainy C. Cherry and, even though her first novel was a complete miss for me, I've enjoyed this one a lot. Her books do seem to be kind of on a heavy, depressing side. Looking forward to reading more in the future.

Title: Loving Mr Daniels
Series: No
Author: Brittainy C Cherry
Release Date: May 13, 2014
Rating: 5 ++ stars
Cliffhanger:No
HEA:

☆ 5 GOLDEN STARS ☆

“When hearts are set on fire no complications can extinguish the flames”

Loving Mr Daniels by Brittainy C. Cherry is completely amazing, touching and exceptional bittersweet tale of love, life and moving on. It’s a book that touches the subject of unconditional love and asks important questions, only to answer them in the most beautiful way –no, it doesn’t give away simple responses, it makes you think and feel. And that what’s counts the most.

What a wonderful story! I’m wowed. I’m swept of my feet. I’m totally, entirely, wholly, utterly, absolutely in love with this magical, heartbreaking tale of forbidden love. There are really no words to summarize how I felt while reading this novel, this book is just one of those that grab your soul, heart and mind and don’t let go; this is a story that will stay with me for quite some time and I am so sad, I reached the ending so quickly.

“The best things in life aren't easy. They are tough, they are painful, and they are raw. That makes the arrival to the final destination that much sweeter."

Ashlyn is depressed, lonely and lost nineteen year old young woman who just lost her twin sister. Gabrielle was her best friend, her better part, her soul mate, her confidante. Now, after she died, Ashlyn is all alone. Her mother sent her to live with her dad, who she almost doesn’t know. Wisconsin seems like a very distant place and Ashlyn has one more year of high school to go through.

Daniel is as much broken and lost as Ashlyn. Although he’s sexy, intelligent and a good man, he’s also living in the world where everything is marked by pain and grief. He lost his mother and father; his younger brother is more trouble than you can think. And even being a lead singer of Romeo Quest or teaching English doesn’t soothe his tortured soul.

When Daniel and Ashlyn meet in train to Wisconsin and quickly learn they share the same passion for Shakespeare’s work, something inside them clicks. It’s like a new beginning for both of them. It’s the start of something beautiful yet forbidden.

"There had been one moment when I saw someone who might understand, based solely on her eyes. Her eyes were surreal, haunting even. Green, powerful eyes that looked so sad. Broken. Beautiful."

So strong, so powerful and so intense - Loving Mr Daniels is not average forbidden love story. This student/teacher relationship is in no means your usual dose of angst and typical problems and issues we generally get in this type of romances. It’s so much more.

From the complex characters that won me over to heartbreaking storyline Brittainy C. Cherry astounded me. I loved everything that was the part of this novel, and that rarely happens these days. Even secondary characters were perfect addition to it.

Loving Mr Daniels is breathtaking, thrilling, sometimes overwhelming and gutting read and I loved every minute of it. This is a book that is not only worth reading, but is worth writing about, talking about it and recommending to your best friend. This is unforgettable tale of love I will carry close to my heart forever.

“You brought me the light on my darkest days.”
“You didn’t bring me the light, Ashlyn. You are the light.”

i went into this book completely blind and i wasn’t expecting much to be honest. i thought it was going to be your typical professor x student romance—probably a little cliché, nothing too deep or heavy, but clearly i underestimated it.

the first half had me in a chokehold and i was fully convinced this was going to be a 5-star read. ashlyn and daniel were everything—the chemistry, the banter, the flirting 😫 i was unwell and going absolutely feral. at one point i wanted to cry and throw up from how cute they were (yes, i’m that dramatic) 😭 they were just two people navigating their own grief and somehow, they found each other and loved each other in this tender, aching, beautiful way that truly got to me.

and then there’s ryan and hailey who i absolutely adored 🥺 they were so funny and had me laughing out loud, but there was so much more to them beneath the jokes. their friendship with ashlyn was so heartwarming, adding another layer to the story that i treasured.

but then things took a turn and my heart ached. i had to put the book down for a couple of days because, well… life happened 😭 and when i finally picked it back up, something just felt off. i’m not entirely sure why but i felt slightly disconnected during the second half. don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t bad by any means. it just didn’t hit the same way the first half did. i think i preferred ashlyn and daniel’s dynamic in the beginning and the second half felt a little rushed and underdeveloped.

still, i really enjoyed this book overall and would definitely recommend it. just be sure to check the trigger warnings beforehand!

and of course, huge thanks to Youssra for putting this book on my radar! i’m so glad this buddy read was a win (unlike our last one that still haunts us to this day 😭) and i love buddy reading with you more than you know 💖

pre-read
br with bestie Youssra 💖 we’re both suckers for a good professor x student romance so let’s see how this one goes ~ 🤭

It's LIVE......http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00K9V2OPE/r...

5+++ Beautiful Beautiful Stars!!!

Ashlyn

A woman drowning in her sorrows. Barely floating on the surface after the death of her twin sister. Abandoned by the person she loved the most. Sent to live with a stranger.

Gabrielle

Fought and lost her battle with cancer. A tragedy that tore a family apart. A loss that brought two people together. A treasure box of memories and letters that would eventually heal.

Daniel

A man drowning in his sorrows. Barely floating on the surface after the death of his mother and father. Betrayed by his family. Trying to move on, to start over.

A chance meeting at the train station...

"Beautiful.
Breathtaking.
Brilliant.
Blue eyes."

Two people, one night...his music awakened something in her that had been laid to rest. A shared love for Shakespeare...two lost souls, who found each other.

"If there was a God, which I'm not certain there is, do you think this night would be a form of apology for him taking away the things we loved?"

New school. New friendships. A new life.

A teacher. A student. A forbidden love.

"He wasn't the handsome man who'd awakened my spirits a few nights ago with his romantic vocals. He wasn't the man who'd made me laugh and allowed me to cry into him. He wasn't the man who'd reminded me that I was still alive when his lips had triumphantly found mine. No, he wasn't Daniel anymore. He was Mr. Daniels."

Daniel. Ashlyn. Ryan. Hailey. Four people living a lie. Loving the wrong people. Believing in the wrong things. Craving acceptance. Weighed down by past sorrows. Hoping. Dreaming. Wishing. Craving. Acceptance. Love.

"Because pretending to be happy is almost like being happy. Until you remember that you're only pretending. Then you're sad. Really sad. Because wearing a mask every day of your life is the hardest thing to do. And after a while, you get a little scared because the mask becomes you."

A secret affair. Stolen moments. Innocent looks. Hidden touches.

"I hated how close we were but how distant we felt.
I loved how distant we were but how close we felt."

Sacrificing their love in order to protect each other. Willing to let each other go to save themselves. Giving up today so that they might be able to have a tomorrow.

"I want to be yours, I want you to be mine, and I hate that we can't be us. Because I think we were meant to be us."

A once in a life-time love. A forever love.
"I love you slowly...
I love you deeply.
I love you quietly.
I love you powerfully.
I love you undconditionally.
I love you gently and hard, slow and fast. Before time and after.
I love you because I was born to do so."

Ashlyn and Daniel.

Absolutely beautiful-beautiful, heartbreaking-heartbreaking, breathtaking-breathtaking. I fell in love with every character in this book, not just Ashlyn and Daniel. This was a wonderful story of loss, healing, forgiveness, the power of friendship and above all else a great love.

* Beautiful - Unforgettable - Touching *

I have a soft spot for teacher/student romances. But a simple fact that author tells a story of forbidden love between teacher and student is no guarantee that I will enjoy it. However, this novel made a huge impression on me. Loving Mr. Daniels is beautiful, complex and powerful story that talks about life destinies of multiple people, story that I will remember forever!
"I was convinced that everyone in the world had a form of weirdness to them. The idea of finding your other weirdo was so attractive to me."

With shocking prologue and emotional first chapter, author managed to hook me into the story pretty easily and since than I couldn’t put the book down. So what is so special about this novel? Sometimes it is writing style that grabs your attention. In other cases, it may be a storyline. Or feelings that book evokes in you. This book has it all.

Miserable. That’s how our 19 years old heroine Ashlyn feels at the beginning of this novel. Devastated by her twin’s death, hurt because of her broken relationship with her mum, angry because she is forced to move in with her dad and his other family in different town to finish high school. Not the best outlook for a teenage girl, right? Can attractive musician Daniel she meets on train be her saving grace?

Daniel was perfect mix of nerdy and sexy young man. However, living in his own world of grief, there was a lot of misery in the life of Daniel Daniels. Connected by emotional pain and loneliness, a huge spark was ignited when Daniel and Ashlyn got to know each other one fateful night. If only they knew that what they felt that night would quickly become forbidden...

What happens when you meet your other half at really wrong time of your life?

I could write really long list of reasons why I loved this book but I’m going to mention just couple of them in this review. I absolutely adored Ashlyn’s way of thinking and parts written in her POV. There was no over-the-top drama, just plenty of realistic emotions that were pouring out of this novel at every page, making me completely immersed into Ashlyn’s and Daniel’s life stories. Moreover, author created unique and unforgettable characters. Main or supporting ones, alive or dead, everyone played important role and touched me deeply in one way or another.

Ashlyn and Daniel were so "perfectly imperfect" together. Sharing all those nerdy quirks made them such an adorable and lovable couple for me, that I was rooting for them despite the fact that it was "forbidden". All I can say is that you need to experience this exceptional connection and love between those two people yourself. For me, Loving Mr. Daniels is a definite must-read!

This is the story of 19-year-old Ashlyn Jennings who lost her best friend and twin sister to leukemia. Her mother sends her to a small town to live with her estranged father and his new family, and on her way their, on the train, she meets a handsome stranger with piercing blue eyes who invites her to see his band play. 💙

They have immediate attraction, but also a deep closeness - because both have a tragic past. After the show they plan to meet again, but before it happens, Ashlyn discovers that Daniel Daniels is her new English teacher, Mr. Daniels. (Which is a bit strange, because he's only 22 years old. lol). 💥

📚 “𝐈 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝,” 𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐝. 𝐖𝐞 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐱𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐲. “𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬, 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧’𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐮𝐬. 𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐈 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐰𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐮𝐬.” 📚

I enjoyed this book, but two things disappointed me: all the tragedies in the story... and the end, that was too quick (which happens in most of Brittainy's books).
It bothered me that Daniel and Ashley's "forbidden" relationship was not the focus of the book, because most of the drama was related to their families...
There were too many family tragedies (on both sides) and I did not understand in what way they served the story - but most importantly, some of these issues were not resolved at the end of the book at all...
The deaths of family members, drug addiction, alcoholism, bullying, coming out problems... Why the hell did all this happen?? 😱😱😱

📚 “𝐈 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐲. 𝐈 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐲. 𝐈 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐥𝐲. 𝐈 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲. 𝐈 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲.” 📚

However, Daniel was an amazing character who managed to get into my heart.
It's a book about loss and pain... about coping and forgiveness... and of course, LOVE. A sweet romance (which didn’t really feel forbidden to me) about 2 people who fell in love with the right people, at the wrong time. 💙💙💙

“You know those people you could go years without seeing and when you finally get together it felt like no time had passed? Hold on to those people. “

Sometimes, the simplest book titles will give you the most brilliant stories. This book did exactly just that. <3 <3 <3

This book is an intricate quilt of wonderfully weaved stories about grief, death, friendship, coming to terms with one’s identity, broken families, life and love of genuine and lovable characters who will tremendously affect you whether you like it or not.

The ingenuity of the author is evident in the way she skillfully plotted the story which is basically anchored at Gabby’s bucket list for Ashlyn. Gabby, Ashlyn’s twin sister died of leukemia but before she passed away, she left Ashlyn a bucket list. It is now up to Ashlyn to live life not only for herself but for Gabby as well through the list Gabby dedicatedly and painstakingly made for her sister. *Sniffs*

For every item in the list that Ashlyn strikes off, she gets to read a letter from her twin sister. In other cases, the third party involved (say a stranger Ashlyn kissed) gets to read the letter. *Sniffs more*

This clearly shows that a loved one may be gone but their influence in our lives will forever linger. In this case, Gabby is the reason Ashlyn’s life will never be the same again. That Ashlyn despite the grief, bullying and rejection she went through still has a shot and hope at the brighter side of life.

The pivotal point of the plot is the entrance of Mr. Daniels in the picture. Who he is and what his role is in the story is up to you to find out. Don't rely too much on the blurb- that I can tell you. ^^

”His eyes were so blue and filled with interest. For a second, I thought they were a passage way to a different world."

Ms. Brittainy Cherry is a magnificent writer for making this book seem to be a collaborative work of Colleen Hoover and John Green!

The witty and funny undertones…

"He was so smart that he made me want to crawl into his head and live there."

the cleverness of the characters…

“There was nothing as romantic as the feel of book in your hands."

the romantic air that filled the entire story (especially with the allusions to Shakespeare)…

"You deserve to be the chorus to a person’s favorite song. You deserve to be the dedication in their favorite book."

…easily flow along the pages of the book. The metaphors either make effortless connection to your heart or they could easily make your knees wobbly.

“His kisses tasted like forever soaked in always”

I have never been a huge fan of the NA genre but this is one of the most ultimate exceptions. Read this book and learn to mourn and celebrate life, to grieve and be just you with someone who completely understands. Read this imperfectly perfect book and be inspired!

I thought this would be a romance between a student and a teacher. What I read was a story about human nature and life’s poetic moments. Real life expressed through every spectrum. I laughed and cried through every page of this book. I was meant to beta read it and give Brittainy feedback. I couldn’t give her a single thing.

I’m sure you’ve heard the idea that everyone has a story living inside of them.

Throughout reading this book, I couldn’t help but feel like this was Brittainy’s story— Her story told with such aching beauty that I had to highlight something on every page just to remind myself of her beautiful words.

This story was about Family. Secrets. Appearances. Grief. Laughter. Shakespeare. Love. Each character had their own journey and I felt connected to each and every one of them. Ryan was my favorite, but he won’t be everyone’s favorite, because that’s the beauty of this story. I think each reader will connect with it in a fresh and genuine way so that we’re each left with a unique and wholly personal experience.

This is a story for someone that wants more. Something deeper that will stick with them even after the story ends.

I’m so proud of Brittainy. This is her story. Her Golden.

5 Stars (Originally Read - 9/2/2014)

5 Stars (Re-Read - 8/22/2018)

Overall Opinion: Wow. This was still an emotional read! I wasn't expecting to go through all the feelings I did the second go-round. I honestly put off doing this re-read because I was afraid it'd be like some other books that I deemed my "favorites" where it didn't hold up the second time, but I'm glad to report this is keeping its 5 star rating and staying firmly on my favorites shelf! I know I get in the mood for an emotional of book sometimes -- so, I highly recommend it if you're looking for a good cry! I really did love their relationship too. The Shakespeare's stuff was a tad cheesy at times, but I thought it worked for them. I truly felt like they were meant to be, and I think that allowed me to be alright with the ending even though I would've loved more! Great book.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Ashlynn and Daniel's story. Ashlynn just lost her twin sister to cancer, and her mom sends her off to her estranged father for her senior year of high school because she is having trouble coping. She meets this guy in the train into town and they hit it off instantly, and she ends up going to his band's performance at a local bar a few days later. They connect through their grief of losing love ones and Shakespeare. They are both shocked to find out that Ashlynn is in Daniel's senior AP language arts class. They struggle a lot with their new reality, but they cannot deny the intense feelings they still feel for one another. There is some family and friend drama, some heartbreaking moments, and a few sexy times...and they get a HEA ending.

POV: This alternated between Ashlynn and Daniel's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good. I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well.

Instalove: No, they take a while to express stronger feelings. They do feel an instant intense connection though.

H rating: 4 stars. Daniel. I liked him. I appreciated how he always tried to do the right thing even when it was tough (like with his brother). I also liked how he understood and supported Ashlynn through her grief.

h rating: 3.5 stars. Ashlynn. I liked her. I did struggle with her at times though. I wanted to shake her about her dad as well as her constant crying (I'm sorry if that makes me a bad person, because I totally get that she had a LOT of punches to roll with, but it got kinda old for me).

Sadness level: Moderate/high. I cried a good bit for the last 1/3 of the book even this time reading it. The first time I read it, I remember feeling wrecked!

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Low. They have okay tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not very many descriptive scenes and not so much it takes away from the story. I would say that they are more about the emotional connection rather than the physical.

Descriptive sex: Kind of. Not quite fade-to-black for most scenes but close. Some scenes are more descriptive.

OW/OM drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This had pretty good closure with what I would call a HEA ending. Would I have liked a farther glimpse into their future? Of course. That's my greedy self speaking for sure 😜

Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers

5++++++++ stars!!!! HOLY EPIC AMAZINGNESS!!!

“Always remember our first glance,
And I’ll promise your heart that I’ll be enough.”

“His eyes were so blue and filled with interest. For a second, I thought they were a passageway to a different world.

Beautiful.
Breathtaking.
Brilliant.
Blue eyes.

I sighed.
Maybe they were a passageway to a better world.”

“Five minutes ago I was lonely.
Five minutes ago I walked alone.
Five minutes later I told you the deepest secrets of my soul
And when you turned away I whispered, ‘Please don’t go.’
~ Romeo’s Quest”

They met on a train and it was magic. They were getting to know each other out on the platform. The opening scenes were so vivid and romantic my heart smiled. It was perfect. When they meet again it's at a bar where his band Romeo's Quest is playing. The story continues on the road to perfection. Until they meet again .....

“He wasn’t the handsome man who’d awakened my spirits a few nights ago with his romantic vocals. He wasn’t the man who’d made me laugh and allowed me to cry into him. He wasn’t the man who’d reminded me that I was still alive when his lips had triumphantly found mine.
No, he wasn’t Daniel anymore.
He was Mr. Daniels.
And I was his naïve student who he’d frostily dismissed.”

Here is where the story continues. I can't say much more except these two were so right for each other!

This book was amazing! For the one itty bitty taboo thing wrong there were a thousand, thousand things RIGHT ❤️❤️❤️

My heart was in the most constant beautiful state of anxious love. Like ever. Ever, ever.

5 Coping with Real Life
* * * * * Spoiler Free
This is an experience... overwhelming, intense and so heartfelt. There are moments that will make you stop and just absorb it all... because of the quirky beauty and then the deep, slicing pain. If I sound a little overly dramatic with this book, it's because I never was a bystander. What do I mean by that? It's when you are reading and kinda going through the motions; you are there ... and then you drift away... maybe go and fix a little snack... talk on the phone with a friend or check your email. You're not fully invested. This read demands you tuck in and give yourself over to it from the start. If you don't, it will be your loss.

There is so much covered in this book; the use of a teacher and the older student is the least of the things it's about in my opinion. It focuses on sibling and parental loss; the undercurrent of blame and how it can be destructive in so many ways. Bullying, sexual orientation, and acceptance are also addressed.

But mostly right next to all of these deep issues which cause unbearable pain for those in it...this story gives us pure and staggering love... first love and sibling love ...

The rush we feel with this first love and way it is nourished and blossoms is beyond any description I can give you...it will wash over you as you read how it happens; tentative steps all done against the artistry of Shakespeare. This first love is also teamed with the love of sisters with a special bond only twins can have.

So, this tale is chocked full of thought proving ideas... and it kills me not to go into all of them... but then I would be telling you this story instead of you experiencing it as I did... which was primarily going into it blind. I will share all of the characters were so well crafted... there are no missing pieces with them... they held their own, I was there with their crisis' too.

This period in life...is so hard... and there is a scene which addresses it so eloquently... I don't think it could be done better.

Brittainy C. Cherry wrote something very special and I am better for reading it. Patrycja's review pushed me over the edge in reading this today and I am most appreciative. If you are looking for something which will cause you to think about life and how you live it... then don't be a bystander... read this book.

♫"Always remember our first glance,
And I'll promise your heart that I'll be enough."♫

-Romeo's Quest.

Usually when I'm starting a Teacher/Student book I know exactly what I'm getting myself into. The plot is always the same. The angst is always the same. The problems the couple is faced are usually the same. When I started the book 'Loving Mr. Daniels' I was sure I'm gonna read the average forbidden love story. What I got Blew me away.

"The best things in life aren't easy. They are tough, they are painful, and they are raw. That makes the arrival to the final destination that much sweeter."

When we meet Daniel&Ashlyn, both went through some kind of tragedy in their life. They are lost. They are lonely. They are sad. They are broken. They go with the motion of life, but they don't LIVE. When they meet each other, something inside of them start to stir. They are starting to wake up after been asleep for so long.

"There had been one moment when i saw someone who might understand, based solely on her eyes. Her eyes were surreal, haunting even. Green, powerful eyes that looked so sad. Broken. Beautiful."

When they first meet at the train station, both didn't know it's going to be the start of something,
overwhelming
Fulfilling
beautiful
exciting
Amazing
Forbidden.

After seeing her that first time, and his inability of letting her go without an excuse to see her again, Daniel invite Ashlyn to see his band 'Romeo's Quest' show.

"He gripped the microphone in the stand in his large hands and cradled it like it was his lover, and when his eyes looked up into the audience, he found my stare. He nodded once at me, and as he finished the final words of the song, I felt he were giving me a privet concert."

Their interaction, their banter, their playfulness .. It was so fun to read. Their connection felt so REAL. Like they knew each other for the longest time. They spend a magical night together, where they let go of the restraints holding them back and finally, let go of all the Demons deep inside, and set each other free. At least, for a night <3

"He moved his mouth away from mine, leaving me with my eyes closed and my heart open. I could feel his heart pounding against his t-shirt, and he placed his hand over my heart. Words were not needed because everything was felt from within, spilling out into each other's fingertips."

As a result of being sick in the past, Ashlyn was held back a year. Now she's 19 years old at her last year of high school. New town. New place. New people. New love.

When she gets to her last lesson of the day, first day of school, she can't believe her eyes. Daniel. Her Daniel is Mr. Daniels - her 22 years old new English teacher.

"I miss you so much it's hard to breathe."

After the discovery of the obstacle standing in the way of their love, both were facing the new reality. They wanted each other, Wanted to be together, but at the same time, can't let themselves hurt each other in the long run. Daniel started to think about breaking the rules, finding the loopholes, and Ashlyn felt that something important inside of her is missing.

"I just wish i didn't like you so much." I didn't know why, but i felt like crying when he said that. Beacuse i liked him too. I closed my eyes and allowed his scents to wash over me, bathing me in fantasy and false hope. When my eyes reopend, I saw his stare, strong and determined. He took my arm and pulled me around to a corner and we went through a door to an empty staircase. He glanced up and down the stairs before he pressed his mouth against mine."

"I hated how my other students looked at her. How they lusted after her. I hated how much i missed her lips, her laugh. Her smile. I hated how close she was but how distant we felt. I loved how beautiful she looked each and every day. I loved how, when i went on runs, she joined me in the front of my mind. I loved how she was effortlessly beautiful. I loved how she moved. How she stood. How she sat. I loved how distant we were but how close we felt."

Besides her doomed love life, Ashlyn needed to face bullies, repair her relationship with her dad, grieve on her sister, forgive her mother, worry about her new allies, continue with her writing, and find some balance in her new life.

What I loved the most in the book was even thought both of them couldn't be with each other Physically they were with each other mentally. They never stopped wanting. Needing. Yearning. They didn't look for other people to fill the void. They were completely devoted to each other through ALL THE BOOK!

"His lips turned up in a half smirk and my lips followed, giving him the other half. We made each other smile without even saying a word."

When both couldn't deny their feelings anymore, and drawn back into each others arms, they started an EPIC and forbidden love story. It was so natural, so easy. Their relationship never felt forced and i LOVED this in the book.

"Why did you have to be my student?"
A smile crept on my face. "Beacuse God has a sick sense of humor."

"I love you slowly," I said, "I love you deeply." My mouth moved to her earlobe, and i whispered as i sucked it slowly, "I love you quietly." My hips rolled against her, my breaths heavy, hungry. "I love you powerfully." Her head fell against the wall, her breaths mere pants. "I love you unconditionally. I love you gently and hard, slow and fast. Before time and after. I love you Beacuse i was born to do so." Before her, i never knew life. After her, I'd never know death."

"My bounty is as boundless as the sea. My love is as deep; The more i give to tee. The more i have, for both are infinite."

I just loved the whole Shakespeare Theme ! I think the author Combined The quotes and the references beautifully! Both shared a Unique love for Shakespeare. It was a huge connecting subject for them.

"When we are born, we cry that we are to come to this great stage of fools."

The things they were dealing with were so REAL! Both has fears, both Struggled keeping their love a secret and not shouting it to the world. Both felt the yearning to touch and comfort each other in public. Both needed to adjust to this forbidden relationship. When outside forces trying to come between them (don't worry! It's not a woman/man after the heroes. Anything like that) what will they do to keep each other safe ?

"This is home, Ashlyn. We are home."

I loved the secondary characters so much!! Every one of them had their own story to tell. Had their own journey to face. Had their own voice to yell. They were so alive! I felt their emotions and each one of them added to the story. I can say with my whole heart that Ryan was my favorite. I loved this guy. He was a magnetic force pulling Everyone to him.

Now .. let's talk about the 80% mark. Gosh. It Killed me. It Destroyed me. It wracked me. I seriously didn't saw it coming. It breaks my heart just remembering it. DON'T read spoilers. When you get to the scene you need to to feel it without previous knowledge. It will make it so much powerful. Trust me on it. I sobbed for a few minutes, trying to calm myself down. Why oh why did you do it ?!?!? So sad ..

When life get in the way of our couple, they had to make a few important decisions about the future. How their love story will end? Is love conquers all?

This you'll have to find out yourself ;)

"No such thing as a second chance, Only first chances that never end."

”I want to be yours, I want you to me mine, and I hate that we can’t be us. Because I think we are meant to be us.”

description

Where to begin, this story was so damn good! Tears will be shed while you take this heartbreakingly beautiful journey. The story is told in alternating pov, there is a ton of Shakespeare quoted and manipulated while our two main characters build a relationship that so many people only dream of.

Ashlyn’s twin sister Gabby passes away and her mother is struggling so she is sent to attend her senior year in her father’s school where he is the principal. Her father has been pretty absente during Ashlyn’s life and when she arrives she finds that he has a full family in place. Ryan and Hailey were fantastic as was all the secondary characters in this story.

On a train ride to her father’s home in Wisconsin, she meets Daniel Daniels and the attraction and connection is magic! They spend time together and then BAAM the two find out they are teacher/student for the year.

”You don’t deserve to be someone’s secret, Ashlyn. You deserve to be the chorus to a person’s favorite song.”

In true teacher/student they try to stay away, they try sneaking around and all along Ashlyn grows and heals while their bond just gets stronger.

description

While the love between Daniel and Ashlyn’s soars even when they are apart, Ashlyn’s relationship with Ryan and Hailey grows as well. She tries to help them in their lives and finds a family with them.

I must note that her sister Gabby has put together a bucket list accompanied by letters to open when she completes each task. In this manner, the author brilliantly makes Gabby an important part of the story to the very end.

My one issue was that Other than my “issue” I still give this book 5 Stars and strongly believe it’s worth every tear and am I'm still choked up while wearing a big smile!

4.5 stars!

“Leave the past behind you so the future can find you.”

Once upon a time.... a friend recommended this book to me. Well, four years later and I finally read it!!!!!!! See, I eventually get to books on my TBR!

Loving Mr. Daniels is about two broken people who have lost family members closest to them. When Ashlynn moves in with her dad, the last thing she expected was to fall for a Shakespearean inspired musician. And she's even more surprised when he turns out to be her teacher.

I know what you're thinking, that you've read this book already. Yes, you've read this trope, but Cherry puts her own beautiful spin on it and I loved this book. Bravo Ms Cherry! I do wish she wasn't so good at making me cry, but I think that's a testament to her writing skills.

I hope you all give this book a chance! I did, years later and I loved it! It's never too late!

“Because pretending to be happy is almost like being happy. Until you remember that you’re only pretending. Then you’re sad. Really sad. Because wearing a mask every day of your life is the hardest thing to do. And after a while, you get a little scared because the mask becomes you.”

'Student-teacher romances' are not right up my alley. Unsurprisingly, Loving Mr. Daniels was not my cup of tea.

The novel follows Ashlyn, a senior, grief-stricken student who is mourning her twin sister, Gabby, who has recently passed away. She stumbles across a handsome stranger on the train on her way to the city she's moving to and has an instant connection with him. Being completely swept off her feet, she faces an insurmountable obstacle when he turns out to be her school teacher.

The story was cheesy and corny and I would even go as far as to describe it as overdramatic. The protagonists' attraction was 'insta-lovey' and I was not emotionally attached to them at all. They were one-dimensional and I could not care less about them. The story was dull and boring and I felt like nothing was happening for the most part of the book.

Things I appreciated about the book: the powerful relationship between Ashlyn and Gabby, the bucket list Gabby made on account of Ashlyn and the letters she had directed her sister to read once she had crossed off an item she had completed, the references to Shakespeare, Daniel's band that was named 'Romeo's Quest' and the lyrics at the beginning of each chapter.

I cannot pinpoint exactly the reason for my being mildly apathetic about the story. The shadow of death, loss and grief was superabundant. I may have to come to terms with the fact that nothing Brittainy C. Cherry has come up with can beat The Gravity of Us.

“Leave the past behind you so the future can find you.”

“She longed to hold my hand in the light, not only in the shadows.”

“I've had a lot of terrible things happen in my life. And what I've come to realize is if you don't say what you need to say when you have a chance...you'll regret it. Even if you're mad, say it. Scream it into the world while you still have a chance to. Because once life passes you by, it's gone. And so are the words left unspoken.”

FOUR POINT FIVE STARS

FORBIDDEN ROMANCE!!! That is always a favorite of mine.

”When in doubt with what to say, go to Shakespeare. He always had a good thing or two to express.”
Mr. Daniels is Ashlyn’s teacher but their attraction started long before either one knew what the other person was (student / teacher). They’re close in age with only being 3 years apart… so while it’s not a huge age gap they still have to contend with the whole student / teacher taboo. ”It wasn’t the age that was stopping us - it was the occupation.”

”1) Who are you today? 2) Where do you see yourself in five years? 3) What do you want to be when you grow up?”
Mr. Daniels AP English class was posed with these questions. Who I am today is definitely not who I was 5 years ago. Five years ago I didn’t even know Goodreads existed. So, it makes me wonder in another five years what I’ll be doing. Sorry for the digression, I just found those questions intriguing because so much change happens in a five year period.

”But the truth is, it’s not romantic - being someone’s secret.”
Mr. Daniels and Ashlyn weren’t the only ones having a secret relationship. I really enjoyed the complexities of the other supporting characters and finding out about their struggles. Not only was the student / teacher relationship forbidden but so was another relationship. Both of these forbidden relationships have a lot of pain that comes from never being able to show your love towards that person in public. Hiding behind closed doors loses it’s appeal as people’s feelings get hurt. However these two forbidden relationships showed how love knows no bounds.

”It hurt to cry. It hurt to be alive.”
Both the heroine and the hero dealt with more tragedy than most people their age have had to deal with. Their story is one of healing and believing in one another. Having that person in your corner who will fight for you no matter what is invaluable.

Loving Mr. Daniels is a great forbidden romance. It had one of my favorite things incorperated into it… letters. I love when letters, emails, text are part of a story. It gives another ‘secret’ look in the person’s life.

Loving Mr Daniels

"Maybe there weren't two different Daniels. Maybe Mr. Daniels was just another part of him. So it wasn't surprising that I had fallen for both sides of the coin. I was crazy about all of him-- the good, the bad, and the broken pieces."

Every time I finish a book that is so beautiful and phenomenal, I always find it hard to make a review. It's as if words are not enough to describe how great it is.

So, can I just say first and foremost that THIS BOOK IS REALLY AMAZING? Honesty, if there's a word greater than 'amazing', then that's how I describe this book. I LOVE IT WAY TOO MUCH that it breaks my heart!

From the start to the middle part until the very end, I never had a dull moment reading it because the characters are so likeable and they already created a special space in my heart. The plot is beautiful and heartwarming, and so is the setting and the whole concept. This book is uniquely told, poignant, and totally sweet in every way.

There are so many things I have learned from this book. Not only does it tell about a story of two persons who found love in each other through their similarities and painful situations but it also depicts family drama that will tug your heart.

I DID CRY. In a good way. Even if I've already expected it, I found myself really affected because the scenes in this book are just totally compelling. It's like watching a Nicholas Sparks flick, you know. You just can't control your emotions. More importantly, I found myself really in love while reading it. It's a nice feeling. ;)

I see that Brittainy C. Cherry is not that really well-known as an author, unlike other contemporary authors but I think she deserves the highlight, guys. She's awesome! She's a very talented author and this book proves it right. I like her writing style. The way she creates those quotable lines-- I could highlight the whole book! Totally amazing! This book, for sure, will never be the last book that I will read from this author.

As a whole, this book is spectacular. You guys should definitely check this out because if you haven't read this book yet, you sure are missing half of your life! :)

"I was convinced that everyone in the world had a form of weirdness to them. And the cool thing, at least I hoped so, was the idea that there was someone out there just as quirky as you were. The idea of finding your other weirdo was so attractive to me."

Brittainy C. Cherry is a goddess of text and heart. Loving Mr. Daniels was a beautiful read that has stayed with me days after. I was so hesitant to read this book. First of all, being a teacher, I am just not comfortable with the teacher student romances. Secondly, lately it seems I have been avoiding books with any hint of angst like the plague. However, I decided to take the plunge....how bad could it be? Let me just say to those of you that are waiting to read this, don't wait another second. Crack it open and read it.

Ashlyn is a beautiful young adult. Because of having an illness as a young child, she was held back in school. This makes her an 19 year old senior. As the book begins, she is experiencing a terrible loss. As if things could not be worse for her, her mother is sending her away. Ashlyn is forced to move away her senior year and live with a father that she doesn't know. Ashlyn is feeling so lost and alone. She is missing her sister and trying to find her way through each moment.

"People always said it would get easier after losing someone. People said that, over time, it would get better. But I couldn’t comprehend how that could be true. As each day passed, it just became harder. The world only grew darker. The pain merely deepened."

description

As Ashlyn makes her way to her new home, she meets a man that will change her life.

"Beautiful. Breathtaking. Brilliant. Blue eyes."

Right from the instant they meet they realize they both love Shakespeare, This man, like her sister, is a musician. His name is Daniel. He invites her to a club to hear him play. Meeting Daniel is like a piece of strength pressing down on her broken heart.

“Bye,” I whispered, watching the car pull off. I didn’t look away until it rounded the corner out of the lot and went far, far away. I looked down to my book clenched in my hands and smiled. I was going to start from the beginning again.

When Ashlyn arrives at her new home, she discovers that her father has a new family. She feels like an outsider. The dynamics of living with a man who has never been your father and watching him be a father to someone else causes Ashlyn to recognize just how lost she truly is.

"The awkwardness of the situation set in and I came to a strong resolution. I knew nothing about Henry and this family seemed to know everything. I knew it was stupid, but a part of me was pretty saddened by that. Why was it that you wanted those who ignored you to love you the most?"

Unwanted and broken, she makes her way to the club to her Daniel play.

Daniel is no secret to heartbreak and pain. Seeing Ashlyn break down before she even makes it inside the club. He calms her. He soothes her. He recognizes that she is significant to him. Ashlyn and Daniel make sense. After their first kiss, their fate is sealed. As the saying goes, what is meant to be well be.

"The overwhelming amount of emotions running through my body electrified the energy that traveled from me to him. I knew I would never want to kiss another man from the way I kissed him. I never knew that kissing could be so simple yet so complex. He did all of the work with just his lips discovering mine."

description

As Ashlyn grows closer to her "new" brother and sister, she continues to text Daniel. Their friendship blossoms and she finds piece in knowing there is someone out there who can give her joy. She is still trying to find her place with her father. As she makes her way to her first day of her senior year, she faces bullies, pressure, and the worst possible scenario is put in to place. (Can this poor girl please just catch a break?) Her AP English teacher is Daniel. HER DANIEL! Just as she drops her schedule in a fit, he picks it up.

"He studied it, his eyes growing more and more worried. “You’re a student.” His hand formed a fist and he repeatedly tapped it against his mouth. “You’re my student.”

And now, the rest of the story. Daniel and Ashlyn have to face the facts that they are in love. Even though she is 19, Daniel is her teacher. Her father is the assistant principal. Things just couldn't be worse. Or is it that things could not be better? Can we really control who we fall in love with?

description

“You’re the reason people believe in tomorrow. You’re the voice that scares the shadows away. You’re the love that makes me breathe. So for the next few seconds, I’m going to be selfish. I’m going to say things that I don’t want you to listen to. Stay with me forever. Please, Ashlyn. Let me be your everything. Make me your golden."

This book has everything. Heart, passion, love, loss, friendship, and everything in between. I was never bored. The tension between the characters and the obstacles they face are enough to keep you engaged but not so much that you can't handle it! I would recommend this book to absolutely anyone. I am sure that in a few months I will pick it up and read it again. There is something magical about falling in love and finding your someone. Don't wait...read this beauty now! Your heart will be flooded with love!

“I love you slowly. I love you deeply. I love you quietly. I love you powerfully. I love you unconditionally.”

“He was my golden, and I was his. Forever forever and always always.”

4.5 stars!

If you have watched "Pretty Little Liars", then you are ofc familiar with Ezra and Aria. I think this is where my love for student x professor originated from now that I think about it! Anyways, this book gave me the same feels in regards to the fmc, Ashlyn, and the mmc, Daniel, especially with how they met and the whole sneaking around at school and everything. (both of legal age btw)

“I don’t want to be your friend,” he said. We breathed in together and exhaled in harmony. “I want to be yours, I want you to be mine, and I hate that we can’t be us. Because I think we were meant to be us.”

No the way I squealed at this should be illegal.

I loved everything about their relationship. Daniel was just so PERFECT. THE MAN DIDN'T HAVE A TISSUE, SO HE TORE OFF HIS SLEEVE FOR HER TO USE BECAUSE SHE WAS CRYING SO HARD excuse me I would have folded like a lawn chair right then and there 😭 This man went through so much and I just wanted him to be happy 💔

“You deserve to be the chorus to a person’s favorite song. You deserve to be the dedication in their favorite book.” Daniel you need to stop 🤧🤧

"You're intriguing. I like that about you."

“You know what I like about you so far?”

“What’s that?”

“Everything.”

HE WAS SO SMOOTH PLS😭

Ashlyn went through SO MUCH. At the beginning of the story, she had a few "Pick me" moments, but thankfully they subsided. She was a broken girl that eventually got up and lived and Daniel was there for her always 💖

One of the highlights in this book are the side characters, Hailey and Ryan 💞💞 They added so much fun and depth to the story and they were so important for Ashlyn's journey in this book.

The ending was a little bit rushed for me, but the epilogue was soooo sweet it brought tears to my eyes 😭

Had sm fun buddy reading with my favorite girl Cherie!!! ilyyyy 💖💖

This book is about Ashlyn and Daniel. Both characters know what it's like to lose an important someone in their lives. They also know what loneliness is like.

I was almost certain that loneliness was a disease. An infectious, disgusting illness that was slow to creep into your system and overtake you, even though you tried to fight it off the best you could

After Ashlyn's twin, Gabby, died Ashlyn's mom made her go live with her father and his family. Her father was never there for her or Gabby. She didn't want to go. So on the bus ride, she gets up to go to the bathroom and she sees a beautiful blue eyed man.

His eyes were so blue and filled with interest. For a second, I thought they were a passageway to a different world.
Beautiful.
Breathtaking.
Brilliant.
Blue eyes.
I sighed.
Maybe they were a passageway to a better world

After they get off it was a brief conversation. But, Daniel invited her to go see his band, Romeo's Quest, perform. And my are they good. Ashlyn goes and has the most wonderful time. For a second she just got lost in the music, and his blue eyes. Her and Daniel just clicked.

“You know what I like about you so far?”

“What’s that?”

“Everything”

Since Ashlyn had health problems, she had to miss school. So she's a senior even though she's 19. So starting school in a town that she hates, with a vice principle of a father, with people she doesn't know, without her sister, and getting bullied for having boobs isn't so bad right?
Guess again, what tops it all off is that the blue eyed angle turned out to be a teacher, and she has him for AP English.

They try though, they try to push each other away. But they're in too deep to just push it aside.

“I don’t want to be your friend,” he said. We breathed in together and exhaled in harmony. “I want to be yours, I want you to be mine, and I hate that we can’t be us. Because I think we were meant to be us.”

 photo image_zpsapuhaman.jpg

Their feelings just keep getting stronger and stronger. And the stronger it gets the harder it becomes. But it's impossible to stay away, because he's her golden and she's his light.

“He filled me back up, giving me life, giving me meaning, giving me him. I was shocked by his ability to awaken my spirit each and every time we were near one another. He was discovering all of my weaknesses and making them strong.”

By now I'm pretty sure that Brittainy Cherry is a kickass writer. And no doubt that she's now one of my favorite authors. Between this one and The Air he Breathes I'm pretty sold.

third reread: March 28 - ?, 2017

“If I learned anything these past few months, it's that life sucks, Daniel. It sucks. It's mean, it's vicious, and it's unapologetic. It's dark and cruel. But then, sometimes, it's so beautiful that it knocks all of that darkness out of your system with the light.”

JUNE 2015: MAYBE, just maybe...after rereading this 2015 Favorite I will stop rereading 2015 favorites and read new books....

I don't think there will ever be a time that I can read this without crying my damn eyes out. The first review from April definitely still stands! I love this story, its just as devastatingly beautiful the 2nd time around, and I have a feeling it'll be like that when it comes to reading it for the 5th, 20th, and 50th time.

--------

APRIL 2015: I need a minute to calm myself down.............breathe, Ashley....you're good. This book.......wow......I can't even..........where do I start........breeaaaaaaaathe..........

OKAY, so.....this book....my God, this book....BEAUTIFUL, SO AMAZINGLY, AND EMOTIONALLY, AND DEVASTATINGLY BEAUTIFUL.

It is 5 am, I haven't slept...I started this one really late, thinking it was going to be some lighthearted, silly, easy read.....but I was so, so, so wrong....This book had me tearing up from the very beginning, and the tears never went away. This is some real shit, seriously. do not mistake this for some lighthearted entertainment, this is not even close.

The characters are amazing. I LOVED Daniel, and I LOVED Ashlyn. Both suffering losses, but they find hope and love and a future in each other....I loved every minute of this. And Daniels band?? Heck yes, all the lyrics at the beginning of the chapters, I want this band to be real-life, seriously. The family drama is real, the problems are real....its not like other books where someone mentions something awful happening, you are right there experiencing it and feeling the pain.

I loved laughing with Ashlyn, and crying with Ashlyn, and smiling with Ashlyn, and loving with Ashlyn. I loved this book so much, and I would definitely, definitely [if you read the book you'd see what I just did there ;)] recommend it.

NO.
