Jack thought he made the right choice to walk away from Tawse. And the only man he ever cared for. But a life-altering tragedy has shown him the error of his ways. Determined to make amends, Jack is more than prepared to kneel before the Dom he left abruptly. Even if that means submitting to another Master to prove his love.

Denton is bound by rules. Jack’s membership has been terminated, and prevents him from returning. But their relationship isn’t confined to Dom and sub. Or the walls of the BDSM club. Both men want more. Much, much more. So, Denton does the only thing his instincts as a Dom tell him to do. After all, some men, like rules, are meant to be broken.

Warning: A cautionary tale of a sub who acted poorly and returns, begging for redemption from his Master. Punishment ensues in the form of a submissive offering himself to multiple Doms, submissives flogging submissives, gay sex on a spanking bench and one of the most heartwrenching reunions you’ll ever encounter.

Slow Break is an erotic romance short story previously published in 2011, has been extensively revised & is intended for mature audiences.

A native Virginian, Sara sold her first published romance novel, FLASH OF DARK, an urban fantasy romance pitting vampires against the Fae, in 2009. Since that fateful day, she's published over 20 books in various sub-genres of romance, been generously honored with several awards, and saved the world from evil chocolate chip cookies.

Though she may insist otherwise, Sara loves the places her mind conjures and has always been fascinated by the strange, the unusual, the twisted and the lost (tortured heroes are her personal favorite). She is an action movie junkie, addicted to coffee and has been known to stay up until the wee hours of the morning playing RPG video games. Despite all this geekiness, she is a romantic at heart and is always a sucker for an excellent love story.

The heat of this story builds slowly, and was in line with me finding out what had been going on with Denton and Jack to get them to their current predicament. The story takes place in a mixed BDSM club on a planet far in the future, but the sci-fi setting is more of a backdrop than a main theme.

Denton is a Dom who has been disappointed by a sub walking away from him. Not only has that injured his pride, he really cared for Jack, so his heart hurts as well. Not that he allows himself to admit that, but the way he carefully thinks about the situation and makes sure Jack gets what he needs before indulging in his own needs speaks volumes. I liked the gradual reveal of his plan and how he takes the punishment step by step. It seemed to me as if he was trying to convince himself as much as Jack that he was doing the right thing.

Jack is pretty desperate. He has lost his brother and there are some hints at business disasters. He desperately needs to forget, but, even more, he needs the comfort of the man he loves. Jack knows he can trust Denton on more than one level, and his previous mistake of not letting himself believe that now weighs heavily on him. I was a little surprised at how easily he suddenly submits, even transcends previous limits, but I guess he is extremely desperate and motivated.

If you like hot BDSM action in a club setting, don’t mind a few girly bits, and like a somewhat mysterious situation slowly unravel as two men who seem made for each other rebuild their relationship, you will probably like this story.

The story itself was ok, but I think it could have been much more. It was too skimpy on the details. It read like it should have been part of a full length novel. It is part 4, but parts 1-3 are m/f, so they don't give background to this m/m relationship. I felt like I was suppose to know what their relationship had been like, but it's not really stated, just alluded to. I would wish the author would take this novella and make it a full length novel building their D/s relationship and then following up on what happens to their relationship after the novella ends.

Reviewed by Amber: I'm not sure what to say about this short story.

The blurb says it all about the story. I wasn't entertained in the least and was bored before I finished reading. Maybe reading the whole series would have given me a different outlook.

FAVORITE ONE! This is the only one that pulled emotion out of me. LOVED IT! Should have been longer.
