Watching Kaelin navigate her grief after losing her parents and people was heartbreaking. Seeing her use that pain to grow, improve her magic, and become stronger was such a powerful part of the story. And Ren? The love and support she gives Kaelin through everything melted my heart. These two are badass queens!

And THAT ENDING?! The biggest cliffhanger I have ever read so far! Sarah Primiano, that was MEAN, and I loved every second of it.

I cannot wait for the next book. I NEED IT NOW!

I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

What to expect:
Dragons 🔥 Fate vs Choice 🔥 Trauma Healing 🔥 Found Family 🔥Vampyres 🔥Multi POV 🔥

Wow wow wow! This was such an epic ride, I loved the first book, and this one was soo much better. The character growth in this book was fantastic, continuing that immersive world building from book 1. The dragons were absolute perfection! 👏🏽 Loved the addition of the new characters and locations. It's a YES from me!

••୨୧•• Characters ••୨୧••

Ren - I really do love this chaotic, reckless, fierce, stubborn and compassionate FMC. She is really one of a kind. Nothing will stop her once she puts her mind to something. She is still learning how to control this dangerous power awakening inside her. She will never leave someone to suffer if she has a chance to save them.

Kaelin - This book was such a turning point for her, she is truly suffering in this book after the death of her parents and her entire court. She doesn't know who she is without them and her Kingdom. Her character growth in this book was phenomenal! I loved watching her find herself and step up. She worked really hard on improving her magic.

Talen - This man I swear he keeps getting better and better, the way he sacrificed himself for his loved ones... epic! He had a rough time in this book. I felt so bad for him. Tortured and loosing himself. But he came back bigger and better than ever.

Ren and Kaelin's relationship in this book was beautiful. They are truly made for each other. They world burn the world for each other. 🔥 Watching Ren navigate how to be there for Kaelin while she was struggling was so beautiful to see, she was just there for her no matter what. They both went on quite the emotional journey in this one but on totally different levels.

••୨୧•• Plot ••୨୧••

Loved every part of this book. The pacing was perfect throughout, not once was I bored or wanted to put the book down, no I was invested in this story and these fantastic characters. We got quite a few high-stakes action scenes that had me stressed.
Don't get me started on the plot twists boy were they twisty and I didn't see them coming.
Loved the added tension and suspense from the addition of some new enemies.

Loved the mutli POV's, I need all the individual thoughts and feelings.

••୨୧•• World Building ••୨୧••

Again, this book is so atmospheric and immersive, building on that from book 1. Loved the new locations we travelled to in this one. The Vampyres were soo good, giving all the suspenseful dark haunting vibes you could ask for.

The dragons were fantastic. Loved all the interactions with Vortharax and Fryphessyrth. Loved learning more background about them.

"I see you know, Renaria Harper. You are indeed worthy of the title Flameborne." 😭😭😭 (That got me big time!)

Love the magic system in these books and it just keeps getting better, characters learning how to expand and control their magic. There are just so many layers. Love it!

Loved the addition of some new side characters, they all brought something different to the story. Some big personalities that added tension. Some that really showed up at the end of the book.

The found family element to this book is truly beautiful. They all come from different places and have vastly different personalities and values, but they will show up for each other every time without fail. You don't mess with family.

The cliff hanger at the end of this book ruined me... I did not see any of that happening and I am shook. I need the next book immediately.

Highly recommend this series.

Bound in Night and Ember by Sarah Primiano was an absolutely beautiful continuation of the series! With immersive worldbuilding, unpredictable plot twists, complex characters, and so much emotional depth, this book completely captured my heart. I found myself unable to put it down, and now I am desperately waiting for the next installment!
One of my favorite aspects of this book was the continued character development. Sarah Primiano does a fantastic job of making Ren, Kaelin, Talen, and Lucan feel incredibly relatable while still allowing them to be complex and flawed. Their pain, trauma, and frustrations feel authentic, making it easy to become emotionally invested in their journeys.
Ren's growth throughout the series is especially meaningful to me. We first meet her as an impulsive, angry woman desperately searching for family and connection. As the story progresses, we see her become more mature and thoughtful, learning to understand the power she carries and the responsibility that comes with it. Watching her grow into someone who thinks more carefully about her choices has been one of the most rewarding parts of this series. Her journey feels genuine, and I love how her growth builds upon the experiences that shaped her.
I also loved the relationships in this installment, particularly Ren and Kaelin's. One thing I especially appreciated was the absence of a forced third-act breakup. Instead, they support each other through conflict in a way that feels natural and meaningful without becoming overdone. Their relationship feels like a partnership, and I loved seeing them face challenges without losing sight of their connection. I also enjoyed seeing Talen grow in this aspect of the story!
The worldbuilding and magic were fantastic, and the plot kept me guessing. Just when I thought I had figured out what might happen next, the story surprised me with another twist. The stakes feel high, and the combination of fantasy, intrigue, and emotional investment made every revelation that much more exciting. I also really enjoyed experiencing the story through more perspectives in this installment, as it added to the immersive reading experience.
The pacing was another highlight. I found it to be medium to fast, with no sections that felt unnecessarily slow. I was consistently invested in what was happening, whether I was following the characters' development or trying to anticipate the next twist. Sarah Primiano's writing made the world feel vivid and the characters' experiences feel personal. This book took me through so many emotions, and I became even more attached to the characters along the way.
Ultimately, Bound in Night and Ember was a five-star read for me. It combines everything I love about fantasy: compelling characters, meaningful relationships, immersive worldbuilding, unexpected twists, and an emotional story that stays with you after you finish reading. Most of all, I loved seeing how much these characters continue to grow, and I cannot wait to see where their journeys take them next.
If you enjoy character-driven fantasy with high stakes, intricate worldbuilding, and relationships that feel authentic, I highly recommend adding this book to your TBR. Sarah Primiano has created something truly special, and I am already desperate for the next book!

How on earth can a book end like that?! I am going to need book 3 immediately.

Massive thank you to the author/publisher for providing an ARC. I was so excited to dive in and absolutely devoured it with 2 days of it getting released.

A few spoiler-free thoughts:

Kaelin: Her growth in this book was a strong point of this book. After the devastating end of book 1, seeing her navigate the guilt, helplessness, and her shifting role in this new world felt so different to see compared to the badass she was in book 1. I really hope we get to explore her powers even further in the next book. It was nice to see how she really embraced her new role and place by the end of the book atleast

Ren & Kaelin: I’m still a very enemies to lovers girlie so I preferred their dynamic in book one. Their relationship definitely had a change in tone in this book and I would’ve loved a few deeper, heavy-hitting interactions between them. Their were times where Kaelin really overcompensated in her overprotectiveness over Ren (esp that one scene where she went crazy)

Talen: This man was put through the ABSOLUTE WRINGER. He was tested at every turn, and my heart just broken for him continuously.

Ren : Look, Ren is definitely a polarising lead. She’s impulsive, reckless, and deeply emotionally driven. I know those traits frustrate some readers in a main character, but to me, that's what makes her so compelling. Underneath all the armor and arrogance, she’s wildly selfless and carries so much trauma, constantly putting everyone else's suffering before her own. I also loved watching her morals clash with Talen in those morally gray, impossible situations.

Not going to say much about the new additions (some I loved, some villains I wanted to throw across the room), and learning more about dragon history was such a treat - I hope we can dive abit more into that in book 3.

Overall; a solid read that I enjoyed. Need book 3 ASAP, because cliffhangers keep me up at night

Bound in Night and Ember by Sarah Primiano (huge thanks to the author for sending over this ARC!) was such a mixed bag, but that ending? Absolute cliffhanger perfection. It caught me completely off guard and now I have no idea how I’m supposed to wait patiently for the final book.
On the positive side, I really appreciated watching Kaelin mature. She takes on so much growth this time around, shaped by tragedy, heavy grief and a real sense of responsibility to lead her kingdom.
That being said, a couple of things threw me for a loop. First: the random vampire drop? It felt like such a bizarre addition in an ancient fae setting already full of mythical creatures like ogres and dragons. Suddenly, we have these unkillable, deeply irritating vampires taking up a huge chunk of the page count out of nowhere.

Then there’s the romance. Ren and Kaelin had so much potential to deepen their dynamic but Kaelin was either lost in her own head for 90% of the book or worrying about Ren's safety like an obsessive psycho. I really missed the fierce, sexy, alluring Kaelin from book one!

A bumpy middle-book setup with some weird lore additions but the character growth and that jaw-dropping cliffhanger ending saved it. Fingers crossed things turn around in the finale!

ARC REVIEW 🩷
Spoiler free! 🌷

This story follows Kaelin and her journey through grief. It’s very inspiring but heartbreaking to see how everyone handles loss differently. In this case, she used it to improve herself and her magic.

The characters are very realistic and relatable. It has a lot of found family moments, with amazing characters and great friends. That was definitely my favorite thing of this story and what stood out the most for me! Found family, and the dragons 😉

This story was extremely attention grabbing and I couldn’t put my phone down for a whileeee! I’m huge when it comes to pace, and this story had a very good one. It didn’t feel slow or uninteresting, but it also wasn’t fast or confusing. It ended in a cliffhanger. MEAN! Can’t wait for more! 🤍

Thank you so much to the author for the ARC of this book and for the opportunity to read and review it. It truly means the world to me. Unfortunately I had to stop reading this book, absolutely not because I wasn’t enjoying it, but because it contained too many topics that are personally triggering for me. But I love this author’s work, and I’ll definitely read the other books (I even own one as paperback.) I’m sure readers who aren’t as sensitive to these topics as I am will absolutely love this book!

Sarah has done it again! Her ability to create a world that is so easy to imagine and lose yourself in- perfection. Just when I think I have figured out where the story might be going, she uncovers another layer- making it so hard to out this book down. I love the humor that is sprinkled in between the two lead women, but also the main 4 characters as they interact with one another.

It was an honor to read this in advance and post a review! Add this to your TBR!

I'm so glad and appreciative that I got to be an ARC reader for this novel. It is the 2nd novel in the Flameborne trilogy.

Oh my god. I really enjoyed this novel. Ren was dealing with the betrayal of people she thought were friends, while, Talen, Kaelin and Lucan were dealing with the loss of their home and the betrayal by their own people, they all had their own way of dealing with the grief of it all and used it to make their magic stronger. I definitely loved Kaelins comeback from the grief and sadness from losing nearly everything to knew and loved. She is a badass and will do anything to protect her loved ones. When she finally realised there were still people who needed her, she stepped up and became the Queen they all need. I love this quote from her, as it's her finally accepting that role. "This is your Queens command" Kaelin.

I loved how Talen stood up and protected his loved ones to escaped from the Vampyres, knowing what could happen to him. He is a brave, Heroic fae. Even though the relationship between Talen & Valeria (whatever that may be) started out as just a blood bound, they definitely grew closer and i enjoyed that.

Oh, Sylven, Zakhar and the rest of the Vampyres. well, I have nothing nice to say about them.

I was not expecting the ending, well, part of it anyway. But, oh god, it had me sobbing. Sarah, what have you done, you have a written a beautiful, heartbreaking story.
"I see you now, Renaira Harper. You are indeed worthy of the title Flameborne" Vortharax.
When Vortharax said that to Ren, I full on sobbed. Whhhhhy Sarah, whhhhy, would you do this to us. I need book 3 now, please.. I need to know what happens and how this story finishes.

I have so much to say, but, I think I've said enough for now. I am loving this series so much and I can't for the final book.

Also, I absolutely love the artwork throughout the book, especially the art with Ren and Vortharax.
