Sixteen years have passed since the eight crew of the Starship Hope arrived in the Tau Ceti system and established a colony on the fifth planet from the star, a planet they named Serendipity.
Their colony has thrived. Together with their children they have turned their habitat into a paradise and begun to terraform the planet.
But none of them realise that another starship carrying more than a hundred people will soon arrive and change their lives forever.
The Seasoning continues the story started with Foothold, picking up just before the starship Inspiration arrives at Serendipity.
Hope comes in many forms.

Interview with the author
Is this the original edition? No, it was professionally re-edited in August 2016.
How would you describe The Seasoning? Book 2 in the Foothold series picks up the story sixteen years later. This time adversity and conflict follow in the wake of the Inspiration’s arrival.
Will there be a cliff-hanger? The ending is left open for the next book, but I won’t leave you hanging.
How many books to come? The series will have eight or nine books in three broad arcs. The Seasoning is the middle book of the Serendipity arc.
If it were a movie, how would you rate it? PG-13 for language and sexual references.
Dennis Ingram was born in 1963 and developed an insatiable appetite for anything relating to rockets and space, and needless to say followed the Apollo program with a passion. He read every science fiction book in his local library, growing up on a diet of Andre Norton, E. E. 'Doc' Smith, Clifford D. Simak, Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clark and other iconic science fiction authors. He wrote science fiction stories in school notebooks when he was a boy, but as he grew up he put those away and switched to writing in computer languages instead. He kept reading though, hundreds and hundreds of books, especially science fiction, and never stopped dreaming. One day, he started to write those dreams down.
Not quite as good as the first in the series in my opinion. The sudden explosion in the number of characters made it hard to follow who was who at some points. Still, it was well-written and good enough for me to order the third in the series!
I must admit that I have always been a sucker for this type of sci-fi story. Mix together some good science with the thrill of discovery that harkens back to Lewis and Clark battling elements in search of the unknown and I'm a happy camper.
Dennis has done an excellent job of creating believable characters you want to root for, story lines that easily draw one into their world and enough action to keep you there!
For me it was a bonus to find 3 books waiting for me to dive into and he has not let my expectations down. On to the next one!
Outstanding storyline, action-packed with surprises and happy endings. Multiple plots are well written and follow nicely as time goes on. Book One was good, but a little slow, whereas, Book Two took off and was outstanding. Just started Book Three. All these books present valid science fiction, coupled with believable characters. Good always triumphs over evil.
Another book in a series I really enjoyed. Its a book that you need to understand is essentially a serial but one in which you feel very attached to the characters (especially the ones introduced in the first and even some introduced in the second).
I will say that this book while great did seem easy to put down but then the last 1/3 flew by and it was over before I knew it.
The books ends with some hope but has done nothing but set up for the next. One in which I downloaded immediately.
Great series that has some unanswered questions but seems to have a lot of heart. The last sense involving the namesakes and citizens had me in tears. I love some good Sci-Fi with heart and way with the human condition.
Still some stiff points in the dialogue and character interactions, but as a whole the story and setting more than make up for it. I'd like a lot more books detailing the story if this new world as it develops.
Loved this installment. An emotional rollercoaster ride that kept me in suspense. The old meets the new and the ruthlessness comes out of nowhere. Or does it?
The series continues and book two is as good as book one. Exploration at it's best! Watching the colony come together and grow. I'm not going to lie there are a few places that brought tears to my eyes.
Author blew all Suspension of Disbelief with me when he let a proven psychopath character live. The colony leader as the Author developed thus far until then would not have been that stupid. Bad call.
Lost some of the charm and freshness of the first book. The habit of multiple generations holding the same names or close variants is hard to follow. I really don't care for the direction Carla's character is suddenly going.
Overall an enjoyable book, and I'm curious where it goes, but a disappointment compared to the first book.
