Serial killers fascinates…Extreme cases even more so! Download FREE with Kindle Unlimited! From John Wayne Gacy to Jeffrey Dahmer, many of America’s most famous murderers have entered into the collective cultural consciousness. They have become pop culture figures, famous for their crimes and the violent nature of their acts. People feel compelled to understand more about these dark and twisted crimes, even when they disgust. For audiences everywhere, the very idea that these people can exist and operate in day-to-day life becomes an issue of abject terror and interest. That your neighbor, your boss, or your gas station attendant might be in the midst of a killing spree taps into something primal and very hard to imagine. It reflects the darkest side of the human psyche. “Serial Killer” as a term can be difficult to define. Different criminal investigation units typically require two, three, or more attributable killings over a period of time before an individual can be considered to have joined the ranks of the serial killers. However, it is not really the numbers which can interest so many people and scare others. Instead, it is the often random nature of the killings. Rather than crimes of passion, crimes of financial reward, or instances when an individual has reached their end of their emotional tether, the crimes of serial killers have often been planned days, weeks, or months in advance. Targets can be random, but the killings are often planned in great detail. From cannibalism to mental health concerns, from ritualistic witchcraft to a simple interest in violence, learning what motivates these people can offer both insight and further confusion. The cases presented in this book are extreme cases and display to what extent a serial killer can go... I’m rating this book a 5 for what it is. Although the sources formed throughout, are through other books others haven’t written. Which this book is just featuring information already talked about prior, from other writers, who did their job right.
I’d give this book a 4 star, because it’s basically written maybe in its own words. Yet, it’s copied information taken from other excerpts. And maybe not in the exact same way, but the sources are there.
I liked this book a lot, being that it’s information I’ve never known. So I learned a lot, whether it’s taken on other accounts. But, I’m not too certain of the writing. Whether it was word for word, of other books. Or simply, was information taken from it.
Either way, I appreciate what this intended. And I thought it was nice to have picked out certain “unknown” killers, from how many others, out in the world. And combined into one book alone!
As usual Jack Smith does a decent job of giving us the facts and the details we seek without going into too much detail. Always a good way of finding out about serial killers or murderers and helping us to decide whether to take things further and buy a book dedicated to a single person.
It is amazing that the Ukrainian Serial Killer was able to elude capture for more than two decades. I think that serial killers are a product of their early life.
Poorly researched, inaccurate and badly written. Every section contains wrong information and facts. For example Yorkshire is NOT a town in England!!!!!! Very basic, lazy mistakes. Dont waste your time or money!!!!
I enjoyed this tale into the world of these serial killers. This book was quite interesting and kept my attention from beginning to end. It really satisfies the lover of true crime books.
This is a nice overview of several serial killers including one who remains nameless. These are prolific murderers, some with victims numbering in the hundreds. With these staggering figures, our brains begin to numb and we forget that each individual victim was a life cut short.
This is an interesting mixture of subjects and make the book worth the hour or two it takes to read it. There are a number of distracting errors which prevent the book from being worthy of a five-star rating.
A quick read. I enjoyed it, but a lot of the information I had already read from other books. Though, some of the serial killers I had not heard of before.
