Listen to Me is so well done. It leads you with a focus on domestic issues. Once you bring a baby in to a home, everything changes- the dynamics of your marriage, exhaustion levels, respect for one another, responsibilities, balancing life and most of all- each parent changes. Alison writes us in believing one of the largest conflicts of the book is that between Alexa and her husband. A woman experiences so much after giving birth. Those who don’t return to work in a normal capacity then grapple with self worth, confusion, productivity measurement and valuing your own identity aside that from being a mom. Alexa (FMC) worked representing music stars before she brought her daughter Olive in to the world. Though she loved it and she worked hard, she carries tons of trauma from losing one of her artists to suicide. Alexa sneaks out to a bar one night and watches a new vocal talent, Lola. She sees Lola struggle in similar ways her lost artist had and decides to make it a personal mission to save her. Her guilt and perhaps the new found sense of responsibility to all young females takes over in a way she can’t explain. Alexa is willing to go to dangerous lengths to protect Lola and all future female talent from a male dominated industry and from those who will use them to make their living. The ending?!? Jaw is still on the floor!

From the very beginning, there’s a nagging feeling something is off but I couldn’t figure out if it was Alexa or my own judgment.

Alexa used to live for the music industry buzz of London. Now she’s stuck in a small town at the edge of Fens, bored and isolated with her husband and daughter. When she sees a promising young musician named Lola Green perform, she becomes increasingly invested…not just in Lola’s talent, but in how terribly her management is handling her.

Then Lola disappears.

Alexa begins investigating, and I went on this journey convinced I knew what was happening. I questioned whether my suspicions were actually right. Then the truth hit and everything and I mean everything shifted. There were layers to this story I never expected.

This was a genuinely compulsive page turner. If you love unraveling mysteries and putting the pieces together as you go, you’re gonna want to read this.

And if you think you’ve got it figured out? You probably don’t.

Listen To Me by Alison Stockham was surely a wild ride of a book. You want to say 'no way something like this really happens in real life' because it is just so insane, but the story pulled me in, and is the kind that makes you turn page after page after page because you need to know what is going on and what will happen next.

Also, it really bugged me how no one cared about singer Lola going missing. She was kidnapped, trapped, and no one came to help her.

And I was also always worried about Alex. She seemed to be obsessed with Lola's disappearance. Yes, she wanted to help. yes, she felt guilty. Yes, she was worried history would repeat itself. But, there is a small line between wanting to help, and blowing things out of propotion. IN my opinion, at least.

Anyway, all in all, I am giving LIsten To Me 4 out of 5 possible stars.

Listen To Me by Allison Stockham, Alex is an ex music rep and a new stay at home mom with one year-old olive she’s also adjusting from being a city girl to living in the country. Looking for a little excitement she goes to see a new singer named Lola Green at the only music venue in town. Although she thought Lola had an original voice and great talent it seems she also has a drinking problem and that’s not good for a debut artist. she has a niggle of worry in the back of her mind for Lola but once she gets home and has to argue with her husband who treats her more like his other child than his wife she forgets about it the next day however at a coffee shop she over hears three girls talking about Lola Green and her issues and whether out of boredom or True caring Alex ask the girls a few questions about Lola and every answer doesn’t help her worries but it’s the next time she sees Lola that sends her on an investigation that may not last to the end of her marriage. Lily is missing no one has reported her missing it’s Alex who’s going around to her mom her flatmate the bartender at the club where she played and even the police station trying to raise the alarm but it seemed no one is biting. This is why Alex takes it upon herself to find the missing rockstar. things get even more serious when Alex starts receiving threatening letters and she soon learn someone is stalking her. This doesn’t stop her from searching for Lola and what follows is a bunch of twisty twists and then the twist of all twist because this was definitely a twisty freaking book. At first I thought it was going to start dragging but oh no I was definitely wrong this is an absolutely thriller banger of a book that I definitely recommend. Lola is a rising music artist who goes missing one night. While others seem willing to accept that she may simply have disappeared of her own accord, music manager Alexa can’t shake the feeling that something isn’t right.

Currently on maternity leave, Alexa finds herself drawn into investigating Lola’s disappearance, determined to uncover what really happened. But the deeper she digs, the more questions arise—and not everything is quite as it seems.

I really enjoyed the mystery surrounding Lolas disappearance and the way the story kept me questioning what I was reading. Just when I thought I had a handle on where the story was heading, another piece of the puzzle made me reconsider my assumptions.

And that plot twist! 👀

I have to admit, it completely caught me off guard and had me questioning everything I had read throughout the book. I found myself looking back at earlier events and wondering what I had missed.

🎧 As an ALC, this was an intriguing listen that kept me invested in uncovering the truth behind Lolas disappearance.

If you enjoy mystery, secrets, missing person stories and twists that make you question everything, this may be one to add to your TBR.

Alison Stockham has been one of my favourite authors, I have enjoyed her books immensely.
Unfortunately, this one falls short of my expectations.
It wasn't bad. It wasn't badly written. The plot was a bit thin.

A singer that goes missing. She has a recording company, a manager, a mother, a flatmate, friends.
Not one of those people report her missing? NOT ONE.
A person who has seen her perform twice reports her missing.

Alexa has a feeling that Lola is spiralling. She has a feeling someone has kidnapped Lola. Her clues are laughable as she investigates the disappearance, because the police are lackadaisical. Unless it is because they are small town police and this has not happened in their community before, which I reckon would be a firework exploding behind them to get them on the case. But no. No interest.

The character development isn't great either. Alexa's had a bad experience before with one of her artists. But the information was very sparse about that.

This really wasn't my type of book. I thought it could have been more.

It was… okay. Kept me interested enough to finish the book. I didn’t particularly like any of the characters. Alexa’s husband had a real nasty streak, but she kept forgiving him. I appreciate she had changed and felt trapped in her mothering role after being a high powered executive, but he really was an arse!

I didn’t see the twist coming, but it made sense once I read it. Still not really sure there was enough of a motive to go to those lengths however!

Still, a decent read. 3.5 stars rounded down.

I enjoyed Listen to Me by Alison Stockham. The story kept me interested, and I thought the twist was really good. It was a little wordy in places and probably could have been tightened up some, but overall I enjoyed the story and was glad I stuck with it. A good psychological thriller with a twist that made it worth the read!

I have been a loyal fan of Alison Stockham's other books so I couldn't wait to read this one, especially since it focused on the music industry and it didn't disappoint!

The main character, Alexa, is concerned after seeing up and coming pop star Lola at a gig by her erratic behavior and when suddenly no one has heard from Lola after that night, Alexa know something is wrong. She already lost someone close to her once, she doesn't want this promising young woman to have the same fate.

There were some twists in this that had me shocked and I loved every second of it. Stockham knows how to write a thriller, that's for sure.

Alison mixes together deeper issues with a pacy book that leaves you wanting to read just one more chapter. I raced through this book and did not see the twist coming. Clever, gripping, and beautifully unhinged. It’s a stunner of a thriller. I loved it and could not put it down, reading it in a few hours. Brilliant.
