15 antique quilts are pictured with a blurb about each regarding why the author was drawn to the quilt. They are all really interesting to look at and study.
These designs are given an update using Kaffe Fassett's fabrics.
The results are worth a look. I loved comparing the new to the old. Kind of like those pairs of pictures where you try to find what is the same and what is different.

This book studies 13 antique quilts and provides instructions on how to recreate them using modern fabrics. 20 quilt designs are provided based on the antique quilts. The book is based on a collection of fabrics so you can make the exact quilt pictured. There are lots of pictures to help you if you are using the book for inspiration. The author breaks down each quilt – learning each’s impact both up close and overall. For the most part the author maintains the original design of the antique quilts with the exception of applique. A few of the antique quilts have applique sections and for the modern designs the author uses prints in place of these blocks. The book includes quilt designs that area both easy and challenging. The author has a creative eye and can really mix and match different colors, designs, stripes, shapes and sizes to make beautiful quilts.

quilting; paperback; library

Once again, the artist proves that I love his scrap quilts. I don't always love the fabrics he chooses, but they work so well with the other fabrics that he chooses, that I don't generally notice that I don't like that fabric until I've looked at the quilt for a long time.

I love the fact that they include the codes for all of Kaffe's fabric so you can literally use the same fabric and make an identical quilt. Makes it easier to order the right fabrics.

There are definitely quite a few quilts in this book that I would love to make! Gorgeous quilts, gorgeous color, great photography, great book!

I am familiar with Mr. Fasset's knitting patterns. The quilts in this book are eye popping and while going through the book my eyes got tired by looking at all the bright, almost neon colors. I would not want these quilts on my bed or wall as they are simply too bright and busy. Although beautiful. The photos in the book are very nice with the quilts photographed against plants in a garden.

I checked this book out from my local library for the quilt design featured on the book cover. Quintessential Fassett design, one he has used in knitwear as well: a field of outlined crosses in a rainbow of colors. Love.

I doubt I'll ever do the complicated quilt designs presented here, but I feel good just looking at the photos. The fabrics are lush and vibrant. I may have found a rival for my favorite fabric designer.

I made one of the quilts from this book that turned out beautiful. Fassett has pictured the original heritage quilts at the beginning of the book. Then he has patterns and pictures of his quilts inspired by the originals. This is truly a beautiful book and highlights his talented sense of color and originality.
