Salt and Starlight

Rate this book
What if a powerful goddess has a vendetta against your family?

Alexia Sfakianakis has spent her entire life thinking the curse was just an old island tale. Until, days before her twenty-first birthday, strange things begin happening around her. A child plays a melody she shouldn’t know. The fishermen return with empty nets tangled with rotting seaweed. The sea has come to collect its debt.

To break the curse, something generations of women before her never dared attempt, Alexia must defy a vengeful goddess–and question every decision her family has ever made along the way. Torn between her first love and the man who offers something far more dangerous, Alexia must learn the difference between the choice the curse demands of her and the choice that is truly hers.

Lush, mythic, and aching with the weight of inherited trauma, Salt and Starlight asks the oldest question of all: when everything is stripped away, what makes us who we are? And how much are we willing to pay for the answer?

The sea remembers. The gods are watching. And Alexia’s birthday is just the beginning.

5/5 ⭐️

ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Reviewed using the P.E.A.C.H. Rating System (Plot, Enjoyment, Artistry, Characters, Heart), developed by Erin Smith.

Greek Mythology, Enemies to Lovers, Love Triangle, Arranged Marriage, A Vengeful Goddess?

Sign. Me. Up.

Plot: 5/5
I was so excited for this book and honestly, it could NOT have been any better. The plot was just fantastic. Chapter one had me hooked. The interwoven Greek Mythology, flawless.
I felt like I was with Alexia trying to solve the the riddles and break the curse.

Enjoyment: 5/5
I enjoyed this book so much. I started and finished in one day/sitting and I genuinely could have read more. I felt so many emotions and feelings. I was happy, nervous, afraid, tense, angry, sad and relieved. I went thought it all!

Artistry: 5/5
Andréia writes like she has an ENTIRE backlog of books and has went through all the ups and downs that authors go through before finding their rythm, but this is her first major book. That fact blows my mind. Everything was perfect.

Characters: 5/5
Alexia - what an incredible FMC. Shes smart, astute, and knows what she wants... but at the same time has the ability to way out the consequences of her choices and make calculated decisions.
Markos and Dimitrios - ugh, two sides of the same coin. I loved both but I was drawn to one from the very start.

Heart: 5/5
I loved EVERY SINGLE SECOND of this book. I still cannot believe that is was originally published by Andréia when she was 15 as The Silver Vessel and then decided to take it and reshape it into the masterpiece that is Salt and Starlight.
I am beyond in love with the book and so honoured to be part of the journey.

Spice (Not part of P.E.A.C.H.) – 🫑
No spice per se, but plenty of tension, chemistry and yearning!

Final Thoughts:
5/5 - No notes!!

A huge thanks to Andréia for the ARC — I’m already excited to dive into book 2 (yes there is a book 2) and her other WIPS!

The sea remembers. The gods are watching. And Alexia’s birthday is just the beginning.

I had such a good time with Salt and Starlight! If you love Greek mythology, ancient curses, family secrets, romance, and a little mystery, this is definitely one to add to your TBR.

The story follows Alexia, who has spent her life believing the curse surrounding her family was nothing more than an old island tale. But as her twenty-first birthday approaches, strange things begin happening, and it becomes clear that the sea has come to collect its debt.

To break the curse, Alexia has to confront a vengeful goddess, uncover secrets her family has kept hidden for generations, and figure out the difference between the choices fate demands of her and the choices she truly wants to make for herself.

I really enjoyed the mythology woven throughout this story, especially the Pleiades mythology and all the little clues sprinkled throughout the book. Some things you might not even realize are important until later, which made the reveals even more fun!

We also get:

✨ Greek mythology
✨ Slow burn
✨ Enemies to lovers
✨ Love triangle with no spice
✨ Family secrets and drama
✨ Ancient curses
✨ Mystery
✨ Fate versus free will
✨ A little Team Dimitrios vs. Team Markos debate 👀

But y’all… THE LAST 20 PERCENT.

I was in SHAMBLES. 😭 I could not read fast enough because I needed to know what was going to happen!

One quote that had me screaming:

“I’m caught between them, between a steady harbor and a dangerous storm.”

EXCUSE ME?! 😭

Overall, I really enjoyed the mythology, the family secrets, the romance, and watching everything come together. And I absolutely recommend checking out Andreia’s playlist to go along with your reading experience because it is a whole vibe.

If you’re looking for a mythological romance with mystery, curses, complicated choices, and plenty of secrets, definitely check out Salt and Starlight!

Wow. Where do I start?

1) This book made me laugh and kick my feet:

"I prefer 'internationally refined charmer' now."

"My mother sweeps in, a flutter of silk and expectation."

2) The descriptions were beautiful:

"Celia’s smile softens, and she shrugs before flopping back on the bed, caramel hair spilling across the quilt."

"Roses force their way through, stems thick as veins, thorns black and shining, coiling around the stone."

3. I SOBBED:

“The song.” Sofia points at Alexia’s chest. “We have to help her remember.”

4. The poetic songs and phrases made it feel whimsical and ethereal. Patiently waiting for an audiobook because, based on writing alone, it's going to be amazing.

5. This was my first experience with a love triangle and I was truly torn. Torn in my SOUL about who she belonged with. But when she ran away from her wedding and went to Markos, I knew in my BONES she was supposed to be with Dimitrios. Then, when the potion was revealed, my jaw DROPPED.

Immediately need to reread the whole book knowing it was just a potion because I'm sure there were Easter eggs I missed

6. Speaking of jaw dropping:

Chapter 34 as a WHOLE.

“I slept with her that night.” I say, my words starting to slur now. “The night of the shipwreck.”

Like EXCUSE ME?? YES.

7. Can we all agree that chapter 47 was a masterpiece?

When I saw it was in Aphrodite's POV, I was a little nervous. Only because idk what goes through a God's mind and how important/not important they view mortals. But this was perfection. She came across as powerful and slightly arrogant, but she was the final piece of the puzzle that the book needed.

Safe to say I will be recommending this book to everyone willing to listen.

✨⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | ARC REVIEW | Salt and Starlight by Andreia RN Sales

There are books that make you emotional… and then there are books that absolutely shatter you.

Salt and Starlight is the first book in a very long time that had me sobbing so hard I literally couldn’t read the words on the page. I had to stop, wipe away tears, and collect myself before I could keep going. That’s how deeply these characters got under my skin.

The emotional depth of this story is incredible. Every triumph, every heartbreak, every sacrifice felt so real that I couldn’t help but experience it right alongside the characters. Their journey will stay with me for a long time.

As someone who loves Greek mythology, I adored how seamlessly it was woven into the story. The mythological elements added so much richness without ever overshadowing the heart of the novel.

And can we talk about the melody the author composed for the story? Such a unique and beautiful touch. It made the world feel even more immersive and added another layer of emotion that I wasn’t expecting.

This is a story that broke my heart, put it back together, and left a permanent mark on it.

If you’re looking for an emotionally devastating story with unforgettable characters, gorgeous Greek mythology influences, and a story that will leave you thinking about it long after you’ve finished, Salt and Starlight is an absolute must-read.

Thank you to the author for the ARC. All opinions are my own. 💙

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ INCREDIBLE read!

Salt and Starlight was such a fun and immersive read. If you’re a fan of Greek mythology with a fresh, modern twist, this one deserves a spot on your TBR.

Alexia is living under a curse, and unraveling the truth behind it had me hooked from the very first chapters. Andreia does an incredible job weaving mythology into the story in a way that feels both familiar and completely original. The gods aren’t just names pulled from ancient myths. They feel powerful, unpredictable, and very much alive.

One of my favorite aspects was the portrayal of Aphrodite. Without giving anything away, let’s just say this isn’t the soft, romantic version of the goddess you might expect. It added such an interesting layer to the story and kept me eager to see what would happen next.

The world-building is rich, the mystery unfolds at just the right pace, and the characters are easy to root for. There were plenty of moments that made me smile, plenty that had me holding my breath, and more than a few surprises I never saw coming.

If you enjoy curses, Greek mythology, dangerous gods, layered characters, and fantasy that keeps you guessing, I highly recommend Salt and Starlight. I’m already looking forward to the next installment!

What would you do if your family curse threatened the livelihood of your entire island? Alexia is stuck between a literal forbidden rock and an impossible choice.
For thousands of years, every eighth daughter of her family is doomed to lose the man they love. In return prosperity reigns. Now this cruel fate has fallen to Alexia. Does she tempt the curse and follow her heart to Markos? Or does she follow through with the two-family company merger and arranged marriage to Markos’ cousin, Dimitrios, her fiery childhood rival?
The Absolute yearning between Markos and Alexia, in stark contrast to the electric interactions between her and Dimitrios kept me devouring chapter after chapter until the very end. Alexia fights to keep her identity and autonomy, all the while trying to break the age-old curse.
Fierce yet graceful, I admired Alexia so much. Andreia’s world on Mykonos is captivating and so wonderfully crafted. She blends the modern day with Greek mythology so well, I’m still convinced this may have actually happened.
If you are looking for a Greek inspired tale, complete with a cursed love triangle, then look no further! Andreia will have you on the next ferry to Mykonos to see if the forbidden rock really is as cursed as they say.

Greek mythology + curses + a complicated love triangle? Yes please.

I really enjoyed Salt and Starlight! The sprinkling of Greek mythology throughout the story was one of my favourite elements. It added such an intriguing layer to Alexia’s story and made the world feel mysterious and unpredictable.

And can we talk about the love triangle?!

Markos and Dimitrios couldn’t have felt more different to me. Markos was familiarity, an old love and the comfort of what Alexia already knows. Dimitrios was the opposite, daring, dangerous and full of the unknown.

That contrast made the romance so much more interesting because Alexia wasn’t simply choosing between two people. It felt like she was choosing between the life she knows and the possibility of something completely different.

I loved the mystery surrounding the curse and Alexia’s family and there were definitely moments where I thought I had everything figured out… only to question myself again a few chapters later!

A really enjoyable fantasy read that kept me invested until the end.

If you love Greek mythology, slow burn romance, curses and messy love triangles, add this one to your TBR! 🌊✨

This was a nice, almost cosy, read. I really liked the way that the MCs became stronger within themselves and hiw they treated others.

Plot: Alexia's family has been cursed by a powerful goddess for generations. She has to decide whether to do what the curse demands or make her own path. Which looks an awful lot like choosing between an old flame or the man her family wants her marry.

I really enjoyed the way Alexia learned to stand up for herself, and to be herself, rather than what was expected of it. She was never meek, but she always did her duty. I also really liked how thr two MMCs different: one charismatic and charming, and other observant and quiet but dutiful.

I also loved the weaving of ancient Greek mythology into a modern-day setting. It was such a unique way to do it, and the vindictiveness of the gods was on point.

This book was very more-ish. With my old favourite trope Love Triangle I just had to keep reading (though this was somewhat difficult as I was on holidays overseas) to see which way it would go next.

Great read

I loved this book. An ancient curse, a vengeful goddess and a love triangle? Yes, please!

This book was addictive, I looked forward to picking it up and whipped through it in only a few evenings. It contains exhilaratingly imaginative fantasy elements, especially in the last third of the book, which, by the way, is brilliant! You won't want to put it down.

It's also highly perceptive, exploring some excellent observations about love, trauma and healing. An entirely original, modernised story and characters, the author uses the myths only as inspiration and backstory. The storytelling is excellent and well-written, constantly switching between the 3 MCs’ perspectives to keep things fresh, and the love triangle kinda reminded me of "The Summer I Turned Pretty" meets Greek mythology--the sweet spot, right?!

All the while I was immersed (very authentically!) into the landscape of the Greek island of Mykonos: sunny skies, salty seas, that small-island feel and every traditional Greek pastry I can think of!
I can't wait to see what Andreia writes next!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐!!!

I absolutely loved this story ❤️

It's a unique story. The writing is beautiful without ever feeling heavy or overly flowery. There were so many moments where I found myself slowing down just to appreciate a line before continuing because the prose flowed so naturally. The emotional moments especially were well written.

I also loved how the Greek mythology was woven into a modern setting. It felt fresh, and the prophecy, family dynamics, romance all blended together so well. The relationships felt genuine, and I found myself rooting for them despite the choices they had to make.

If you enjoy stories that are character-driven, emotional, and full of mythology, longing, and heart, I definitely recommend picking this one up. It was such an enjoyable read, and I'm already looking forward to seeing what this author writes next ❤️

beautiful prose!

This book has been living rent free in my head for weeks! There is something about Sales’ writing style that pulls you in and leaves you wanting. Her words paint beautiful pictures, and characters that leave you invested.
My only complaint is that I wish it was longer—some scenes are a bit brief, but I think it says a lot that I was still invested despite this, and that she was able to still immerse me into the world.
If you love stories laced with Greek mythology, music, love triangles, strong women, or mystery, this is for you! I genuinely look forward to whatever she writes next. And if an audio version of this comes out and contains the original music she describes throughout the story, I will 100% be buying it as well!

Salt and Starlight falls right into the category of books I enjoy reading immensely! It is a beautiful, delicate almost fragile story that you will not put down!
The amount of research that @andreiarnsales put into sculpting this book together is astonishing. It is a classic greek myth with nowadays heroes and problems.
Reading this book is almost like putting a puzzle together. Every chapter is a string of a web that wraps around you little but little and doesn’t let go.
I love that this story is not spoiled by meaningless 🌶️🌶️🌶️ It really helped me personally to stay engaged and fully committed to it.

Salt and Starlight is a beautiful piece of modern literature with rich language and picturesque details.
It is one thousand percent the book worth adding to your library.

This is a read that will have you at the edge of your seat craving to know more, the characters immerse you into the story and the mystery they keep from Alexia eats away at you as if your own. I fell in love with the main MMC and there is a particular scene that will absolutely enchant you. Truly, a gift of literacy, you might find yourself reading a second time, smiling every time you see foreshadowing you missed. The ending was perfectly crafted and the whole story is so witty and charming, definitely a must read! If you haven't read it, I will encourage you to read it as soon as you can get your hands on it!

Wow! Salt and Starlight took something heavy and made it magical. The tension was to die for!
So much of it resonated with me, particularly its themes on the weight of baggage and how generational trauma can shape us. It was a powerful reminder that even when choices feel limited, the easy path isn't always the right one, and it is crucial to listen to your own heart to break the cycle. I also really appreciated the symbolism and the compelling duality of the characters as they struggled between duty and their personal desires.

Unexpected and Origional! At first I wasn't sure about this book, I didn't know the underlying mythology so I wasn't sure how the pieces would fit together. This story was beautifully woven through curses, love, and ambition. I found the weaving of the story to be clever and the representation of the ancient deities true to their descriptions. A sweet love story that encourages the reader to be themselves and to choose their own fate.

This was such a beautiful and captivating read. I’ve never heard of the author before but she is my new favorite. By the first chapter I was hooked. I loved how the goddess of love ended up being the villain and I LOVEDDD the name Dimitrios. Overall I am excited for more books to come from Andrea and I would recommended this book 1000 times over.

"Beauty is not soft. It is the first violence."
I loved this a lot. I am a sucker for Greek Mythology and this retelling was so beautiful. I love that is was a lesser known story. The author put so much work into the Playlist for this and Alexia's melody and the family trees which was so amazing. This is a great reach for Greek mythology lovers, love triangles and enemies to lovers. I'm so excited to read more from this author!

I received an ARC copy from the author.

When I started reading, I felt somehow that this book wasn't quite what I had expected. Maybe I wasn't entirely sure what I was expecting, but either way, I loved this complex and surprising story with its developed characters.

The three main characters were Alexia, Markos and Dimitrios, and as soon as I started reading, I sensed they had a story. It was a story that went beyond the pages of the book, as though they had a story before I'd even read a single word. I knew it was a story I would have to read carefully, if I wanted to understand.

Salt and Starlight swept me away to a faraway land, while I was still in the comfort of my armchair. The author had a way of creating tension and chemistry that somehow had my heart yearning, and I found this book impossible to put down. There were times when I felt conflicted or wanted to shout at the pages, but that was my motivation to keep reading.

I enjoyed the theme of Greek mythology, and the part that had to play in the story too. If you enjoy Greek mythology and slow burn romantasy that will sweep you away, add this to your TBR.

Thank you to the author for sending me an ARC copy.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I wasn't sure what i was going to think of the book when I started reading it, but i was instantly pulled into the story and got attached to the characters, I felt like I was Alexis as I was reading, and that I was getting an inside look into the minds of the two guys in her life. I love how thw author was abke to bring Greek Mythology and make her own story out of it. It was beautiful written.
The author has a beautiful Melody for the story, i loved listening to it on repeat as I read the story.
You will have to read to find out about the curse, the love triangle, how Greek Mythology is brought in and to fall in love with the story.
