Much too dainty-fairy & easy-leveled-reader for me now, of course. But I probably would have liked it more when I was a little girl. And Jerry Smath's illustrations save it from being too twee and give it some life.

Did anyone else catch that only darker skin-toned princess was given a negative trait? That she didn't help and was just playing basketball? Looks like a cute easy reader fantasy book, so why have that racist undertone? Will not have on my self at home and please send recommendations for better fairy/royalty books.

Strange that the only princess of color was called lazy and only played basketball. So many kids books have racist undertones! Incredibly uncool.
