I love cats. In fact I adore them. I am a cozy mystery author and massage therapist. When I'm not writing my next cat cozy mystery, I am facilitating healing in others through my massage practice in beautiful Southern California. I find inspiration through animals and my natural surroundings, and I spend most of my days and nights enjoying the company of my two Tortoiseshell cats.

I think (I hope) this was one of the e-books I picked up for free. Hopefully it wasn't even a 99-cent special. It was short (93 pages) and did not appear to have had an editor. The characters were not well developed and where the author intended to sow misdirection and mystery all she wound up with was confusion. The main character's habit of holding conversations with her cats was really weird ... not that she talks to them, not even that she pretends to interpret their nonverbal responses as conversation, but more that you didn't get anything in the way of description that indicated why she thought she was getting the response. With the author's style, it would have made as much sense if the MC had asked a flowerpot to balance her checkbook, and cooked up a reply in her head.

A Purr-fectly Sweet Read

This book was a feline find! Smiles, grins, and chuckles were my sound effects. Wanted to laugh out loud, but did not want to disturb my sleeping spouse. It is difficult explaining the situation that caused his disturbance. He is not a reader. I perfectly understood Vanessa's conversations with her furry companions. I do the same with my four legged babies. They listen, answer, argue and complain just as my children used too. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. A quick, easy read to lift your spirits give you that "wish it had not ended so earlier" feeling. Recommend this book to anyone who loves a sweet read and loves furry companions.

It was so interesting that I read the first three books of the series in three days. It has mystery, sweet love, and some excitement. If you want a fast read that keeps your interest and is clean, you'll enjoy this book. There are some death scenes but not the horror, blood and fire of so many books.

Wonderfully delightful mystery!!

So glad I decided to give this series
a look-see! Really enjoyed it immensely!
The cats are so entertaining and lovable
and the other ( human ) characters were
great, also. I'm tremendously enthused
with this series and will definitely continue
to read the rest in the series.

I love puns!

I think the title convinced me to read the book. I am glad I did. The characters were interesting and the story line was, as well. My only wish was that the book was a bit longer. I hope to read the next book in the series.

This is the second book I have read by this author. Both were cat mysteries with cat rescuers as the central characters. I had problems with the previous book, but wanted to give the author a second chance. The same central problem was a huge distraction that kept me from really enjoying either book.

Research. Please research.

If you are going to write a series about a woman who runs a large cat rescue, one big enough to have a dedicated fundraising second-hand store operating six days a week, you have to know what a rescue *is*. It is not one woman who takes a few strays in and makes pets of them. That's an honorable thing, yes, and something I wish all cat people would do, but that's nothing like running an animal rescue. When you are in charge of a non-profit that finds homes for between dozens and hundreds of cats a year (her group, since they own a store, would likely lean heavily toward the latter number) you are running an animal rescue. The story itself is not bad, but please, for the sake of cats and the incredibly hard-working people who devote their lives, money, and hearts to finding safe, loving, permanent homes for thousands of cats, take the time to talk to the administrators, fosters, intake volunteers, adoption counselors, transporters, feral colony overseers, and litter box scoopers who make this happen. Get to know a few, ask what drives them. Find out what it's like on the hard days and on the very best ones. Learn how an adoption happens. It's a very well thought out, careful process that helps the potential adopter get ready for a new cat in their lives, and it ensures that the adoption is in the cat's best interest. Volunteer at a rescue for the sake of your character, as well as the cats. Not only will it improve accuracy in the story, it will add depth.

Many of the readers who are drawn to a cat themed mystery--and even more so to a cat *rescue* themed mystery--will be rescue volunteers themselves, so an author of these kinds of books has to be on top of the subject. It's not only rescue volunteers and administrators who will balk at an inaccurate image of rescue work, but also the thousands who have attended rescue events, had adopted their own cats via rescue groups, and the veterinarians and businesses that help them.

The story itself has some nice elements, but I think a more experienced viewpoint on the protagonist's life's work would add a lot to the series. Not only that, it's an opportunity to educate readers who aren't yet familiar with cat rescue and adoption organizations. That can lead to more readers adopting cats, or even becoming foster volunteers. Next thing you know, the series isn't just *about* cats, it's saving their lives, too.

I love a good cozy mystery and when that mystery involves cats well then it's an even better read for me. Depawsit Slip by Nancy C. Davis is the first book in what promises to be a great little mystery series that revolves around Vanessa Abbot a woman who runs the Opportunity Shop for the Hamilton County Cat Protection League, a league where she is actually the only member! When a murder takes place at the bank, she finds herself a suspect, and soon is trying to solve the case with the towns newest police detective Peter Wheeler. With some help from her clever kitties she just might figure out who-dun-it!

Well developed characters and a fast paced mystery makes this a great little read, the only reason I gave the book four stars is because there were a few editing errors. I do plan on reading more of this series because I enjoyed this book so much!

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

Was really good for a new series. I did find a few misspelled words or to many words but it was a good read. I like the characters and the story lines. I find it cute how the cats always come to Vanessa's rescue or help her solve the mystery.

Great Cat Mystery!

Wow! This is the beginning of my next obsession. I absolutely loved the interaction between Vanessa and her cats as she works through who committed the murder in an effort to help the good looking new detective in town. Definitely recommend.

This was okay. A little corny. At least it was a quick read. I'll try the next one to see if they get any better, mostly because I love cats.

Will delete other by this author. Poorly written. Plot oddity. Overly simplistic. Failed to suspend disbelief. Not worth time reading.
