Tattooist. Artist. Dreamer.
Angel had been a schoolgirl when she came to House Of Payne, a displaced princess with only a fanciful imagination to her name. Now the world clamors for her designs, but that means nothing to Goth tattooist, Twist. Long ago she craved to see admiration in his sexy dark eyes, but after years of enduring his contempt, she’s given up. Leaving the House feels like running, but Twist makes it impossible to stay.

Tattooist. Artist. Ex-Con.
Two words came to Twist’s mind when he first saw Angel—jail bait. When he'd been released from prison for a crime he would commit again in a heartbeat, he'd nevertheless been determined to keep his nose clean. Too bad he couldn't stop from thinking about getting into the pants of the House’s fairy tale princess. But with a past like his, he’s no good for Angel. All he can do is watch over her from afar… whether she likes it or not.

When Angel is injured, Twist appoints himself as her personal caretaker. She soon discovers that beneath his arrogant façade lies the heart of a devoted protector. She’s going to need that protection, as Twist’s past has made an unsettling reappearance.

Wow I absolutely loved everything about Twist.. He was the perfect balance to the fairy tale personality of our heroine Angel. These two melted my heart in so many ways.
Absolutely loved their love story and rating the book alone on the romance.. 10 stars all the way

The rating here definitely would have been 5 full stars for the story.. if not for dynamics of secondary characters that were inappropriate in their context of "friendship". That was totally my moral and personal taste issue and probably not one other person would ever even be bothered. If it bothers me I can't fully enjoy the story.

Safety.
Totally safe no ow at all not even one mention about Twists past.
Some om issues that really bothered me but absolutely nothing that Angel did wrong except that I'd have rather her completely call a stop to it.

“I’m doing what I want to do.”
“I can’t imagine that taking care of me is what you want to do.”
“Then your imagination sucks, because I don’t want to be anywhere else but where I am right now.”
This is my first book by Stacy Gail and it was terrific. Angel was a fabulous heroine, but let me tell you, Twist really stole the show, wowzers. He quickly and easily made it onto my favorite heroes shelf. He is a hot, grumpy, rough, tattooed, tortured delicious mess and I ADORE him. He's so sweet and caring, under that rough exterior, and his feelings for Angel were just oh so lovely.

I also greatly appreciated that Angel was so open and honest—specifically, that Gail didn't throw emotional roadblocks in their way, using Angel as the pathway. Angel has really taken a beating to her self-esteem and her independence through what she perceives is Twist's overbearing and condescending treatment of her, and she totally has legit concerns. She's surprisingly forgiving though and open to the idea that actions can be interpreted in very different ways and giving him the benefit of the doubt once they started to actually get to know each other.

Overall, a terrific and hot read; super sweet. Note that although the cover may make this book seem like erotica or romantica, it's not, I definitely think it can be categorized as contemporary romance.
His eyes were unblinking, and darker than she’d ever seen them. He searched her face, hungry for something she couldn’t name, but it was powerful enough to make her shiver. No man had ever looked at her like that before. Like he was waiting for her to give him permission to breathe.

4.5

I loved this book. I loved how Angel stood up for herself, how she didn't bow to what others wanted and how Twist tried to take care of her. Even the suspense part was well done.

My only issue (hence the 4.5 instead of 5) was that once Twist and Angel got together, they tended to get overly sweet with each other. And that persisted throughout the rest of the book. But, that's just a me thing. This book really was awesome!

You know when you read a book and you have one character who resonates with you a little more deeply? For whatever reason. It might be that you've had the same experiences or the author wrote the crap out of them and made you all emotional or they're just so darn broken you want to see them find their happy ending. With this book, what I felt for both Angel and Twist was pretty balanced.

Angel's breakdown over being the peacemaker and the one who always handwaves the bad stuff. I GOT THAT. She did her part and tried to get along with Twist and his overbearing ways until she just snapped. And, WOW, did she snap. Again, I GET THAT. I loved that Scout and Payne both had to reevaluate the way they've been treating her and the things they've done up to this point because it was unacceptable and Angel finally reached a point where she had to tell them.

And Twist. Given his past, his actions completely make sense. I LOVED how he had to force himself to see what he'd done through Angel's eyes. And seeing it through her eyes made him realize he'd belittled her and beat her down without ever meaning to. Twist could have been the most complete asshat on the planet. Instead he ended up being a total sweetheart who went overboard on protecting someone he saw as needing his help. Sure, he did things that would have made ANYONE blow a gasket, but he truly did it with the best of intentions. His delivery just needed some work.

Fine, a lot of work.

Stacy Gail has a tendency to pummel my heart into a wounded, bruised mess. I'm okay with this. Completely. Because once I get to the end of the book, I get a fabulous payoff. Twist and Angel worked for me on so many levels. I can't wait to see Sass and Rude battle through to their HEA. *slow thumbs up*

This book was ok for me. I enjoyed Twist and Angel together, but I wonder if he would have ever stepped up and told her how he felt if she hadn't been mugged? Also, Twist was in love with Angel for years, talked to his family about her, and painted a portrait of her that hung in his home, but there was never a mention of him being celibate while he was in love with her. He loved her for 5 years and was in prison for 4 years prior to that. 9 years of celibacy would have been worth a mention. Twist was very secure in his sexual prowess and had condoms in his wallet when he and Angel had sex spontaneously. This leads me to believe he engaged in casual sex with OW. I don't care if he did- he and Angel had no relationship other than co worker for 5 years, but don't paint the picture that he had this unrequited love going on, but he was probably sexing up random OW. I don't like my heroes to sleep around when they already have feelings for the h. I just can't believe a guy who was celibate for years just has condoms in his wallet and I might be confused but I believe he had some in a drawer by his bed too. I would have enjoyed the book much more if I would have known what Twist was up to as far as OW. When I don't know I feel disconnected from the story. Safety gang safe

Angel is fed up, she joined the House of Payne knowing her talent had gotten her there, but when they take an idea of hers and refuse to let her be a part of it, she wants out. When she injures herself though, it just prolongs the inevitable. What Angel doesn't expect is Twist inserting himself into her life and taking care of her.

Twist has let his sour mood for Angel lead his actions toward her, he wants her and has since the first day he saw her. Believing she was too young, he has bided his time, but time is up now and all he is doing is confusing Angel. Angel believes Twist hates her now twist has to show her a softer side, but when someone from his past seeks out revenge he does everything he can to protect her.

This was my favorite so far in the series. I liked Twist, he is total alpha male and is trying to take care of Angel in the most caveman types of way. Angel is sweet and just like her name describes, when Twist decides to take care of her it is hilarious. Excellent read.

5 Beautiful Stars

I fell in love with Twist and Angel in Steele's book so I just HAD to go backwards to read their story and oh my.....it was so sweet and beautiful!

I loved how connected I felt to both Twist and Angel and what I really loved was how much of their emotions I could literally feel while reading. Once these two finally succumbed to their feelings....it was magic.

Twist, oh gosh, this beautifully tortured man, he was the best!!!! I loved and adored him from the start and by the end of the book my heart was overflowing with emotion for him and how much he worshipped and cherished his Angel. Angel, started off with a bang but I enjoyed seeing her soften to Twist and seeing how much he came to mean to her was equally beautiful!!!!!

I loved this story.

Coz I really like love-hate romance and this was fun because the Hero was head over heels crazy in love with the heroine for years and all his attention was on her. However, the heroine thought that Twist (H) was bullying her. See, Twist isn’t the most suave of romantic leads and when he speaks, he comes off as a jerk even though all he wants is for the girl to notice him. This is prolly my fave in the House of Payne :)

Ms. Gail is a new to me author that I found through someone's GR shelf and I'm really thankful I did! Angel and Twist's story was intriguing and had all the possessive/protective vibes I enjoy.

The blurb does a great job of setting up what Twist is about. Angel (h) is a talented tattooist who's reached the end of her rope when it comes to her work environment and has a clear picture in her mind about the cause of the hostile situation. However, Twist (H) is another talented tattooist who's obsessed with Angel and just really poorly communicates and shows his caring because of how he sees himself/his past as not being worthy of her (he's an ex-con). As the truth about how he feels becomes clear following a succession of events, her feelings slowly start to change, and the two of them end up on a quick road to love.

The book is written in third person, dual POV. The formatting and editing, at the time I read it, needed some help though. For example, there were no transitions/breaks to show a scene/time had changed within a chapter so sometimes I would need to stop and re-read to figure out when/where the story was. Ms. Gail has released quite a few books since this one so there's a good chance that more recent releases are smoother reads. Something about the characters and their dynamic though kept me glued to the book despite these errors.

Overall, I simply enjoyed this read. There's a nice amount of steam, supportive and interesting side characters, a bit of suspense, some push/pull, and it all wraps up with an amazing epilogue and a HEA. There are zero ow/om scenes/drama and neither one was a virgin (her last partner was mentioned as being a while ago but no mention of him). There are mentions of past trauma that the H's family experienced, but no graphic detail of the event, just details of the aftermath.

I liked this book with the continuation of the House of Payne series. Scout is a strong woman who grew up in the foster system and had a rough life. She's accepted it and moved on to find beauty in everything. Ivar is French nobility but grew up with a strange childhood with no love. They find each other but have to learn to trust and love each other. It was a great romance.

“I’ve been waiting so long for you to see me.”

* * * S P O I L E R S * * *

♦️BOOK: #3, HOUSE OF PAYNE series, 90k words. Can be read as a standalone.

♦️WRITING: Great - Witty, natural dialogue. Dual, alternating POV.

♦️EDITING: Tolerable, but needs some work - several missing/incorrect words

♦️HERO: Oliver "Twist" Santiago, 30(ish)--Tattoo artist at House of Payne, specializing in dark, gothic art. Ex-con, spent four years behind bars for the beating of the man that tortured his little sister. Blames himself for what his sister had to endure. Big, dark, rough, no-nonsense, pain-in-the-butt, and extremely protective of those he cares about, which includes Angel. He adores her and is extremely sweet and loving, once she finally wakes up and accepts it.
"I’m hoping you’re going to open those beautiful eyes of yours and see what the hell’s in front of you… Me."

♦️HEROINE: Angel Taylor, 23--Tattoo artist at House of Payne, specializing in beautiful, colorful, fantasy/cartoon artwork. Young, petite, bright, whimsical, ethereal. She can be a tad bit naive at times, but she's creative, smart, witty, and resourceful. A big fan of Alice in Wonderland. Thinks she hates Twist Santiago and his stubborn, opinionated ways.
"She’d never imagined what it might be like to kiss him. When it came to Twist Santiago, all her fantasy-time dealt with how best to kill him, and maybe where she should hide the body."

♦️HEAT: Medium, 3.5/5 - 5.5 sex scenes.

♦️REVIEW: After enduring years of Twist's overbearing and controlling ways at work, Angel has had enough and quits at House of Payne. While leaving the parking lot, she is attacked and Twist is there to rescue her. He refuses to let her recover on her own, and strong-arms himself into Angel's life. Angel has some funny and awesome friends, Novak and Joey who give her some great advice and help her see Twist and his actions a little more clearly. She quickly discovers that his controlling caveman ways are not based upon disrespect as she had always assumed but his need to protect and care for her and what he sees as "his".
“As long as I’m breathing, the world is a safe place for you. I swear it.”

He has wanted her from day one and only wants what's best for Angel but hasn't exactly gone about it the right way.
“I love you, too, little girl. I’ve wanted to tell you that for so long. So f**king long. I’ve been suffering without you.”

Twist is one of the best, sweetest heroes I've read about!
"Hell, if he had a daughter, he’d be proud to spoil the shit out of her and make sure she knew that she was the undisputed princess of his personal kingdom."

It was really sweet to watch these two "enemies" become an unbreakable team.

♦️ENDING: HEA. Epilogue - 10 months later. NO cliffhanger.

"Real life with you kicks way more ass than any dream I could cook up.”

I like my H's just one teeny, tiny step up from cavemen, as such Twist was perfection! I expected to hate him based on his actions and behavior in the previous books but I actually adored the controlling, alpha almost caveman. With the unravelling of the sad event that led to his overprotective behavior I understood and loved him even more. Angel was a sweetheart, I loved that when things got tough they still stuck as a unit. The epilogues of this author are quickly becoming some of my absolute favourites. At the end of this book I was happy that I decided to move on in this series. My only problems were that I like all existing threads wrapped up,I needed to know conclusively if Twist was celibate in the time that he wanted Angel and I also needed a better discussion between Angel and her Dad before forgiveness was given. But all in all a solid addition to the series that I really enjoyed.

This is the second book in the series that I've read. This was pretty good. I loved Twist! I thought he was so awesome but he could have went about a couple things a different way. Might have helped with Angel. Angel was a trip. I liked her but she was annoying at times. But some of that was because of the things Twist did. But he meant well. This was more a tale of boy likes girl, but boy doesn't think he's good enough for girl. Girl hates boy, but then she goes to love boy after she realizes he's not as bad as she thought. He's actually has carried a torch for her since he first saw her. I enjoyed this book. I'm glad that Angel saw another side of Twist after the accident. They were so cute together once they mostly resolved their issues. I also loved the part at the end where Twist stood up for Angel. Well done! :)

If you find yourself saying at any point, 'How on Earth can Angel forgive Twist for such asinine behavior?!?', just stop reading. The book is predicated on the idea that Twist acts like a shithead for justifiable reason. I, for one, completely buy into this and Twist is actually my favorite book of the series. The part, towards the end, with the doorjamb, I completely melted. It was so sweet.

Of course, if a guy tried that high-handed crap with me in real life, I'd be out of there so fast, there'd be a dust cloud in my wake. One of my friends accidentally-on-purpose threw out an unopened box of my Little Debbie's Nutty Bars in January 2007 and I still bring it up from time to time.

I loved it. This is the only book of the series that grabbed my attention. The cover- seriously- but the blurb interested me.
The book was so well written... Ha one minute I agree with Angel that Twist is a big jerk, then he makes me want to melt into a puddle because he thinks or does something so sweet. So romantic. Yeah some if that comes out in a gruff way, like his explanation of why he taunted and teased her all that time. Gah I'm going to read it again soon to highlight the emotional and sweet parts that made me smile and sigh.
I don't know if I will read the rest of the series. It's like I am afraid the others wouldn't be as satisfying as this one, so why do it. Hmmmm maybe one of these days.

Twist

My lord how soft hearted Twist is. From the other books perspective you would have never known how much he cared for Angel but when put into context it makes a huge difference. Who knew a concussion could totally flip your world upside down. Angel is strong in her own way but because of her size she's always trying to prove she's good enough. While Twist is trying to prove he's not good enough because of the horrible tragedy that happened to his sister he blamed himself for 8 long years. It was a fantastic read and the epilogue was great!

This book was awesome and wonderful!
I just loved Angel. Even though at the beginning she was portrayed as a naive childlike girl but she grew into a wonderful woman. She was so mature and supportive when dealing with Twist. She had her doubts but she always put Twist first and always tried to be positive.
A wonderful match for Twist.
Twist, although a bit too overprotective, but there's no doubt his love for Angel. And I'm glad he finally forgive himself.
They're a wonderful couple.

I haven't read the previous stories in this series, so I can say it goes well as a stand alone.

I really like the macho, alpha Twist. He was OTT caring and only wanted the best for the h, even if that means it isn't him.

I liked that our h was not a doormat and that she questioned Twist's feelings to ALMOST the point of too much and then relented.
Overall a very quick, easy read.

I had doubts and I'm not sure why. I often get uncomfortable reading past book 1 or 2 of a series because it often goes off the rails or loses it's momentum, and in this case I'm glad I didn't let that get in the way of actually reading this one. I finished book 2 thinking, wow, that was better than book 1 and after finishing book 3... I'm thinking this was my favorite. That being said... if you read this be prepared. I did NOT like Twist for the first couple chapters. Actually, I'm not sure I even liked Angel much at first. But man, the author seriously knows how to manipulate because I loved both characters by the end. Absolutely worth reading and now I'm curious how book 4 is going to go... which just means Stacy Gail did her job and did it well.
Quick Afterthought..... I sincerely hope with all my heart that there's the possibility of a story based on Joey and Novak. Seriously.

Loved this couple!

Angel and Twist were such a cute couple and I loved the chemistry. I was worried at first because Angel was so stubborn and irritating. Eventually she softened up towards Twist and started seeing him for who he really was. I adored Twist and how he loved Angel. Once these two really got together it was magic. The sex scenes were hot and Twist really has a way with words. I grew to love Angel and her acceptance/appreciation of Twist. The communication between these two kept getting better and better which I loved. There is often a big misunderstanding and separation that is thrown into plots now days. It was refreshing to see that not happen here.

I look forward to reading more from this author!

This was really as much Angel’s story as Twist’s and it was great. Angel doesn’t clue into Twist’s feelings for her until she is hit over the head with it...literally! This was another original storyline which I very much appreciated. The author does a great job of character development which even starts earlier in the series.

Bravo to a story well done!

Okkkk, I really wanted to like this more but Angel was annoying af.

Head in the clouds and not really seeing people for who they really are was her MO for most of the book. It changed about halfway through but she already proved herself to be a bit judgey.

I really liked Twist. Could he have been a better communicator? Absolutely.

This could’ve been better but it wasn’t bad.

The third book in the series and my favorite so far. I liked the overbearing alpha, who thought he could get away with it, but I loved the tiny spitfire strong female even more. Gorgeous supporting characters too.
