Saige Parker lives in the rainy Pacific Northwest with her ever-supportive husband. A lifelong bookworm, she took the plunge into indie publishing after sharing her dark romance stories with a passionate reader group—and realized it was time to go bigger.
Drawn to the sinister side of storytelling, Saige creates pitch-black love stories featuring villainous characters you can’t help but fall for…mostly. With a passion for diving deep into the messy, complicated emotions that make us human, she loves exploring what makes people who they are by crafting characters that are often seen as irredeemable, unlovable, and purely chaotic.
Welcome to her wicked world—filled with dark hearts, and darker love.
5 ✨, no doubt. Check your triggers, this is very dark. I knew I was going to love it from the first chapters, from the first time I read the nickname. They are very toxic, dark, twisted, unhinged, broken, lost, but fit so perfectly together. I wanted to punch Wolff in the face a couple of times, but he redeemed himself in my eyes. AJ’s story, everything she went through, the way she tried to drown the pain, made my chest ache. 😢 Their story was very rocky and f*cked up, but the ending was perfect.
Saige, thank you! For the ARC (again) and for writing stories I fall in love with. I always consume your books so fast it’s evident how much I absolutely enjoy them. Can’t wait for the next insane Sovereign.
Read it in one sitting because I needed to know…come on you all know how that goes 🤭
AJ is rescued from a notorious sex trafficker in Russia by Wolff who is part of the Sovereign. Wolff is not a hero, not a saviour and most definitely not a knight in shining armour, he is at best…struggling for a word to name him, I’d like to call him a hunter with morals mainly because he does offer her a safe word though treats her like a sex toy 🤷🏻♀️ She has been brought up to be a servant within the Sovereign meaning obedient, used by anyone within, unless married off and then owned to put it bluntly. I struggled with this a little because how is it any different from being trafficked and abused the only difference is she consents and there isn’t any torturing allegedly! They flee across Russia, coming up against trouble and violence along the way. They do however, enjoy each other’s bodies at each stop, sometimes Wolff just takes but AJ even going through what she did for nearly three months still wants his attention. The addition of Wolff’s background helped us understand his attitude somewhat but then do two wrongs make a right? Once back on home ground the chess pieces move once more and AJ’s solution is to drown herself in self pity, alcohol and drugs…
I just love Saige’s writing, having read all her books, they keep you glued to the pages. This one is pitch black but I wouldn’t say it’s as black as Made for Death, yes, there are some harrowing scenes, violence, gore, abuse etc. Saige throws in a twist or two with a lot of angst, where you are literally sitting on the edge or saying WTF. I enjoyed the retribution at the end just wish AJ had been the one to pull up her big girl pants and administer it herself 🤣
because what the FUCK was this??? I feel like this book should be marketed as a heartbreaking masterpiece 💔
ngl, I was skeptical in the beginning. I felt genuinely a little sick reading some of it, and then somehow it took a HARD turn and I was completely fucking hooked. I read this thing in one sitting. I could NOT put it down😭🤷🏼♀️🫠
and just like the author says: READ THE TRIGGERS.
I’m not someone who usually has an issue with anything. I never read TWs, I have a pretty high tolerance for fucked-up shit, and when it comes to that (💅🏼🔥) side of things I apparently have ZERO boundaries LMAOOO 🫠🤡
but this? this made me genuinely uncomfortable on a psychological level in a way books rarely do. And I think that's what made it hit so fucking hard.
this book is a JOURNEY🫨 an actual emotional fucking rollercoaster.
I was constantly turning every feeling over in my head. I would warm up to a character only to hate them two pages later. I trusted people, then I didn't. I liked people, then I questioned everything. I genuinely couldn't trust anyone😭
this book is basically a trauma bucket🪣💀
but at the heart of it are two incredibly, incredibly, incredibly admirable main characters. characters who aren't always easy to like, but who slowly grow on you at exactly the same pace as the story unfolds. and somehow that made me care about them SO much more🥹
I feel so fucking SAPPY saying all of this, but honestly?
Anyone who is triggered by rape, trafficking, sexual assault or spoilers, PLEASE don’t read any further.
In summary: a woman is kidnapped by traffickers and rescued by a violent assassin; they are betrayed, take a long way home, hate each other, fight feelings, and then find some solace in each other, revenge murders, and a happy ever after.
‘Hurt people hurt people', and find some kind of healing through the process. I understood the characters and got why they made the choices they did. The book starts with FMC held captive, raped, abused and sold to the MMC, who rapes her in public to ‘escape’. When she is 'saved', she lets him do awful things to her because she needs his attention; she has nothing else to hold on to. She admits to not using her safe word for this reason. The MMC is broken and deals with life the only way he thinks he knows how. He does redeem himself at the end, and the FMC finds her slice of happiness, so that wraps up the romance side of things.
This was rape kink from start to end. No hate to people into that kind of thing; it is a dark romance, after all. Every few chapters had some kind of erotic (I use this word loosely) scene, and eventually I was just skipping over them. I cringed every time a gaping hole or fisting was mentioned / performed.
What is still weighing on my mind, however, is the world itself.
This assassin organisation is made of boys/men that kill and women that are sex slaves. Apparently it is an honour for some women to sign up for this. Fine. But the FMC never did; she was born into this slavery AND WE NEVER TALK ABOUT IT. She explains to us how these women are just expected to lie there and take whatever these unhinged men give (murder is not off the table).
In this book we see two different environments with the EXACT same thing. - The trafficking ring where women are stolen to be raped, degraded, made addicted to drugs, abused, collared, and caged. - The Sovereign, where women “willingly” sign up to be raped, degraded (their titles are ‘sluts’), made addicted to drugs, abused, collared, and put in a golden cage until they die or get married off to one of their abusers.
There is no freedom. There is no way out. Both are controlled by sick men.
I hated the FMC’s dad. There was no remorse. He helped save her and get revenge, saying, "This is how we protect our blood." Whatever! He signed her up for this life without giving her any choice because that’s what your children are bred for, apparently, and 100% backed/promoted this behaviour. Was her mother ok with this or just another product of the system? How would any father allow his daughter, whom he apparently loves, to be treated like that?
At the end of this book the couple get a sweet HEA, but nothing around them changes for those women stuck in this cycle. Nobody is saved. Nobody is offered choice or freedom. Nobody takes accountability. In books like the Haunting Adeline duet, we see this trauma as well, but it ends with change. Retribution, freedom and healing for the victims.
There is so much heaviness in this world right now, with Epstein, gender-based violence and human trafficking at a literal all-time high. Reading this book did not give me somewhere to escape to; I felt like I could have been reading the news with the hopelessness and rage I felt. Even though our FMC escaped this life, nobody else will.
So before anyone reading this gets angry at my 'sensitive snowflake' opinions, this book was clearly just not for me. I genuinely enjoyed the writing style. The MCs weren't terrible; I just couldn’t get behind the worldbuilding.
Read at your discretion. I’m going to touch some grass.
⚠️‼️Please, please, please—I am begging you to check the content warnings. This is a dark, emotional, trauma ridden story. Your mental health matters. ‼️⚠️
MY EMOTIONS ARE BEING TOO EMOTIONAL RIGHT NOW.
I’m actually gonna need more than a few minutes—days maybe— to collect all of my god damn emotions after that whirlwind rollercoaster of a masterpiece. I started reading this at 4pm and couldn’t stop until I finished it at 3am. I was pulled in, heart ripped out, stomped on, stomped on some more and then at the end—pieces of it were slowly put back together.
I cannot tell you how many times I FELT my heart break for AJ. The absolute horror she went through—the mental, emotional and physical nightmare toll on her. I’m speechless. All I wanted was to pull her out of every single piece of hell she was in to save her. Protect her.
Wolff. That man—mysterious in itself—but cold and calculating. So many layers as to why he is the way he is. His past being brought up absolutely shattered me. His demons took a toll on him too. He’s a ruthless and vicious man but deep down he needed healing too.
AJ and Wolff are two broken peas in a fucked up pod but they needed each other. They understood the pain and trauma they each went through. They dealt with it in their own unhealthy ways, but in the end they were able to find safety and comfort in each other and seeing that throughout the story broke my heart but also warmed it. It was devastatingly beautiful.
I seriously don’t know if I even have any more words to describe the feelings I went through reading this. Heartbreak, hope, sadness, grief, anger, rage, love, relief. I wasn’t expecting this story to be what it was. I think I’m still in shock. But it was absolutely motherfucking outstanding.
On a less heartbreaking note—I was so excited to see a quick cameo of Arsen, Priest and Raze. My mind immediately went into “yay! Gangs all here!” like the giddy idiot I am. I should not love crazy, unhinged, vicious men—but here we are. Saige just keeps giving them to us on a platter.
She even gave us someone new to love. We had some great comments and laughs from Graves—who I am intrigued about. He’s an interesting one and questionable. I find myself pondering his sanity. But his humor—perfect. 👌
Saige, my love, you’ve done it again. You created a story and characters that capture you, that break your heart and hurts your soul—but somehow you turned that into a beautiful love story—and I didn’t think I could love your characters anymore than I did before but I do. And I think I’m unhealthily obsessed. Fucking Bravo Queen.

ARC REVIEW ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Omg. I have read all of Saige Parker books and this one was by far my favorite. I literally couldn’t put this book down- my entire day and night was taken by this book and I’m so obsessed.
I have a lot to say so let’s start with tropes Broken / traumatized fmc Cold mmc …. Until he’s not Forced protecter / bodyguard Secret assassin society Unhinged mmc Toxic couple Nobody can touch him except her (eventually)
This book was heavy, definitely made me cry once or twice. But it was worth every minute of it. There truly is not a single thing I would criticize. Wolff was protective, demanding, and possessive from the very beginning. Nobody was touching AJ.
And oh my girl AJ, she was broken and hurt and just trying to figure out how to keep breathing day to day. Were these two perfect? Not even close. They both had their toxic moments, times when I was just wondering what they were thinking but both were hurting in their own ways. Even throughout that hurt, AJ from what was currently happening in her life, Wolff from his past- they still continued to choose each other every time in every way. Wolff was there when AJ was making bad choices, AJ was there when Wolff needed her. Wolff would quite literally burn the world down for AJ.
One thing I hate about arcs is I can’t say everything I want to without spoilers- like some quotes I want to talk about so I’ll leave it here. But just know Wolff is down bad for our girl and she’s just as obsessed with him
DEFINITELY CHECK TW⚠️ I don’t personally consider this pitch black, especially compared to other books by this author but it is dark.
Finally THANKYOU Saige Parker for the arc, and writing this series in general. You have quickly become an author I will read anything from💞💞
This story really started out with a BANG. I truthfully never expected the amount of heartache we would be seeing and feeling from this book.
Wolff is, by all accounts, the person who had it worse than A.J.—not that I'm lowering her suffering in any shape or form. She really went through it in this book but Wolff? He's been broken since he was a small child. The trauma that leaves a person, even while thinking they're fine, is without words. His hell started before he even knew what heaven was.
And while he did have people who loved him, that feeling just wasn't possible to a child that didn't even know what love was because it was never shown to him before his nightmare began. A.J. had that. She had a father that went above and beyond to find her. A brother (a twin) who could see behind the pain. These two things is what sets them apart. And yet, it's that love she knows how to give that what ultimately frees him.
He thinks he's the worst thing a girl such as her could have in her life. He thinks that if he stays near, events that happened during his childhood will continue to happen.
What he doesn't know is that she's just as broken as him.
I really liked the push and pull from them, but I do think it could've been toned down a bit by the end and for the "interrogation" that the villains received to be a little more dragged out. I wanted them to SUFFER.
The smut in this story??? 🥵 Someone give me some water 😮💨 PHENOMENAL.
While my favorite in the series is still MFD, this one takes a close 2nd.
please check the tw's as there are many triggers in this book.
I'm not sure about this one, it's a little disappointing. No book can top Made For Death, and this one falls completely flat. After reading Made For Death, I had high expectations for this book but I was left disappointed after that. I know this is a pitch-black romance book, so I don't expect the MMC to be a good guy, I mean, the title gives that away. The problem is the FMC. I'm not being biased, hear me out. The MMC is a jerk because he's written to be one; he isn't meant to be a knight in shining armor. So, I wish the FMC hadn't forgiven him so easily and had resisted her attraction instead of giving in so quickly. He mistreated her for over more than five chapters, yet she forgives him EVERY 👏 DAMN 👏 TIME 👏 This book relies too heavily on unrequited love, which wasn't enough to make me care about the characters. The FMC is overly needy, whiny, and lacks any basic survival instincts despite being a victim of traumatic events. I love the writing though, it hooked me in. I just don't like the FMC's no self awareness personality 😭 Other than that, this sure is an interesting read, I'm glad they got the ending they deserve 🖤🖤🖤
Trope: 🌹 Jerk MMC x Needy FMC 🌹 Dubcon/Noncon 🌹 Unrequited love 🌹 HEA (The ending is sweet though) 🌹 Dark society 🌹 Second chance 🌹 Don't like physical touch MMC x Touch starved FMC
⚠️ This book is not for everyone. I like it though but it's definitely not a reread for me. ⚠️ I hope you are immune to secondhand embarrassment with this one.
Saige Parker, you've gone and broke my heart again.
Buckle the fuck up because this book will break you from page 1. I finished it in less than 24 hrs and to say there's alot to unpack would be an understatement. I like to go in blind but people read the trigger warnings because I could see this book not being for everyone ⚠️ Me on the other hand? Obsessed
The FMC was grating my nerves the first half of the book. Survival instincts of a fucking carrot 🤦♀️ but ohh the absolute devastation and self destruction that came after absolutely broke me!
I knew Wolff's story would be unreal but it far surpassed my expectations. He is possessive and protective, burned the world down before he even knew why. Touch her and your hands get sliced off. When his trauma was unleashed I had full body chills and mourned for this man. His anger and resentment comes from a place so deep within him I'm honesty shocked he was given a happy ending. His past and present is one of heartbreak and wreckage, havoc and so volatile.
Grave's was so fucked up but i loved his character. He cracked me up
And finally, for my personal favorite unexpected guy, Jackal. As someone who has a German Shepard Mix who's a personal protection dog, he hit home for me. When her house was broken into i threw my kindle. Swear to god if anything happened to that fucking dog I was gonna loose my shit!! But I digress, very bestest boy doing bestest boy shit.
Overall this emotional roller-coaster of trauma and devastation was a masterpiece 🙌

I want you to think of the last time you cried so hard your vision blurred…
That’s how this book will feel.
It’s dark. It’s brutal. It’s filled with deeply triggering trauma, and two people who are so broken they can’t even imagine what it would feel like to see the sun again.
This is going to fucking hurt.
In the best and (I’m the) worst way possible. (See what I did there? 😏)
I had to put this book down a few times because I was so damn invested in this story that it stopped feeling like I was reading it and started feeling like I was living through this hell right alongside them.
AJ — sweet baby AJ. 🥺 She is lived through the worst hell imaginable and somehow, despite everything, she still manages to find the good in people… even when she isn’t trying to.
Wolff — you are going to HATE him. That is a promise. You’ll struggle to find him redeemable, but Saige just has a way of edging you like that.
Want a pitch-black MMC? This is your man.
I beg of you: read this book if you like when it hurts. But ONLY after you read the pages and pages of trigger warnings. Seriously. Don’t skip them.
This is nothing like what you’ve read before.
It has teeth.
It’s going to drag you through hell, leave you crawling on your hands and knees, and somehow you’re going to come limping out the other side covered in blood. 😏🖤
Did I stay up until 4am trying to finish this, Yes I did. I only put it down because my eyes were blurry & my kindle hit me in the face when I was falling asleep.
Please check the trigger warnings, this is a heavy book!
The emotional roller coaster I went on with this book was so good! I cried a few times, and my heart broke for these two.
I love this series! AJ & Wolf are 2 broken souls. He will not admit that he has feelings for her believing it will make him weak. She is trying to hold onto him like a raft in a storm. AJ becomes destructive in trying to deal with her trauma, it seems like everyone around her just hopes it’ll go away. Wolf wants to show up for her to help, but often times makes her feel worse without realizing it. God damn these 2 were sexy together! The spicy parts with these two were so sexy 😍
Jackal is adorable & the goodest boy ever!!!
Graves, Wolf’s best friend, was hilariously unhinged! I would love to see more of him.
Gage, AJ’s bother, & Weston, AJ’s dad, kind of pissed me off. They seemed to want to sweep her trauma under the rug & move on. They came through in the end but it was frustrating.
Spice : 4/5 🥵🥵🥵🥵🔥 Tropes: Assassin Secret Society Toxic couple Don’t touch him, unless your her (maybe) Traumatized FMC Unhinged cold MMC, only softer for her (sometimes)
Just finished I’m The Worst by Saige Parker and… oh. My. God. I AM ADDICTED. 😍
I was so excited when I got the email saying I’d been accepted as an ARC reader. I’d seen this book popping up all over my Instagram, so I had high hopes — and it absolutely did not disappoint!
Wolff and AJ are everything I need in a book. The tension. The frustration. The chemistry. The scream-into-your-pillow moments. 😮💨🔥 I was completely hooked from the start and absolutely devoured this book in two days. And honestly, it would have been one if I hadn’t sacrificed my reading time last night to go outside and watch the eclipse! 😂
This story brought out every single emotion in me. It was raw, unfiltered, messy and beautiful all at once, and I loved every second of it. Saige has created characters that I couldn’t stop thinking about, and a story that completely pulled me in.
Thank you so much to Saige for trusting me with an ARC of this one. 💚 I cannot wait to see what comes next!
Please check the trigger warnings before reading. 💚
I’m going to be so honest. I knew I would love this book before even starting it. I love Saige’s stories and how dark and twisted they are, so I had the best time reading I’m the Worst.
I really enjoyed the dynamic between Wolf and AJ, the way she constantly pesters him with questions and gets on his nerves, while he pretends to hate it but secretly loves listening to her. The smut was hot, so much so that it made the book a one-hand read.
Their relationship is messy, and Wolf definitely made me want to punch him a few times, but there’s more to him than we initially see. He and AJ suffered traumatic events in their past, and it helps them understand each other better.
If this is your first Saige Parker book, reading the trigger warnings is a must. The MMC is pitch-black and definitely no hero. You’re going to hate him. So make sure you throw your morals out the window when you read this.
This book was emotionally intense and deeply traumatic, so please be mindful of potential triggers. My heart ached for my sweet baby AJ and for everything she went through. Seeing her come out the other side of it all was so sweet, though. It was such an emotional ride. I think this book did a really good job of showing the different ways people process trauma and that healing is never the same for anyone. I wasn’t a huge fan of the constant push and pull between the mmc and fmc. I think AJ forgave Wolff way too easily, even though he kept pushing her away and running from his own issues. I think he pretended to hate her for too long.
Side note: Graves quickly became one of my favorite characters. His antics had me laughing out loud in every scene—he was such a menace, and I loved every moment. I really hope he gets his own book. I also loved the scene with all the guys (Wolff, Graves, Arsen, Priest, Raze)!
I received this book as an advance copy and these are my honest thoughts.
Every Sovereign book I read is better than the last! Wolffs book was something else, you have Wolff who is trying his hardest for this to just be any other job, and then you have AJ who has attached herself to this hulking rescuer. He is dark, dangerous and perhaps a little crazy. She is broken, a survivor and using every method she can to keep out of her own head. This story is dark, mind your triggers, it's a twisted love story where her broken pieces meet his broken pieces and the jagged edges cause more harm before wearing down into something softer. It will make you wonder if Wolff even has redeeming qualities, whether AJ is going to ever have the strength to heal and if Graves is going to push just far enough to get what he's asking for.
❤️❤️ My goodness, Saige Parker has done it AGAIN! First, please make sure you read the trigger warnings before going into this book. This story is heavy, and some of the topics are incredibly difficult to read about. But despite how hard some of the subject matter was, Saige did such an incredible job telling AJ and Wolf’s story in such a beautiful, emotional, and meaningful way.
The emotions, love, angst, and spice in this book were a solid 10/10 for me! 🔥❤️ I’m honestly amazed by the way Saige can take such heavy topics and write them with so much heart and depth. She pulls you into the characters’ world and makes you feel EVERYTHING right alongside them.
I already want more, more, MORE! 😭❤️ Saige Parker never misses, and I cannot wait to see what she gives us next!
While this book was unbelievable, it was also her darkest book and therefore I have to say to READ THE TW before you dive in.
The book starts at 100; there is no foreplay. Wolff and AJ have a crazy trauma bond and the first half of the book is straight action, no rest for the wicked. The dynamic the two shared was visceral. I loved that you got little bread crumbs of who the characters were throughout the book to put together a better picture of who they were.
There was one point towards the end where I wanted to chuck the book across the room, but kindle, so I didn’t. And I stuck it out, and it did get better in only the was books about deranged assassins can. It was dark, it was horrible, and I loved every second of it. Now off to eat a blueberry muffin.
I did not anticipate a start like this, but it had me hooked immediately. The opening was incredibly raw and painful. Seeing AJ clinging to any piece of humanity after experiencing a trauma like hers—while Wolff treated her with nothing but coldness—completely pulled on my heartstrings.
I love Paige’s books and was so excited to ARC read for her again. I can honestly say she did not disappoint! I absolutely couldn't put this book down; I found myself feeling every emotion and screaming through the entire story.
Holy fucking shit. I loved this books so much! This, this might be my favorite Saige Parker book. Oh my gosh. Just everything, all of it. Outstanding.
I’m honestly so blown away. The relationship between Wolff & AJ is so well written and takes you on a journey that you never want to end. I just finished the book and I’m craving so much more. This will be one of those books I will reread many times. I’m hooked and cannot stop spreading the word to my friends.
Well okay then, imma need a couple of days to unpack the absolute brutal trauma that is within these pages … but also I literally couldn’t put it down. AH, omg my heart shattered for her, no one and I mean NOONE should ever experience what she went thru THEN also finding out Wolff’s backstory FUUUUCK These two broken souls went thru hell and back to end up where they did, they fought tooth and nail against each other and the world but I’m sooo glad they got their HEA
