Magic Meets Mayhem

Back in Willows End, Mae and Brandon find themselves in the thick of things after kidnapping her ex. As they attempt to banish a changeling, Mae begins to question her sanity, and the threat of a serial killer draws ever closer.

Even sleep offers no reprieve. Mae can no longer find Emmie in the Garden—her dreams of wonder have become nightmares. Before long, she discovers her sister is lost in Limbo.

One night, Mae is alone in the cabin when she hears someone breaking in. Her only hope is her possessed ex—chained in the spare room. Mae is forced to choose the lesser of two evils.

Once Mae makes her choice, the changeling assumes human form, an ancient prophecy stirs, and nothing is as it seems. Haunted by fear and doubt, Mae clings to her love for Brandon, the last sure thing in her life, and her greatest hope of saving her sister. But are things really as certain as they seem?

I received an ARC (Advance Reader Copy) of this book from the author in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. All opinions expressed are my own.

The Spellbound is a well-written sequel to The Shadowless, this one leaning more into dark fantasy and supernatural thriller territory. We pick up right where Book 1 left off. Mae and Brandon plotting and planning for a fight neither one of them fully understands yet, all while falling for each other. The story balances the domestic everyday realities with prophetic dreams and the supernatural threat of "the lovely awful." The fae mythology advances and is more creepy than "sparkly," which is a nice change of pace for YA fantasy. Meanwhile, th romance and romantic tension in the story comes with real urgency, not just your typical "teen angst." Book 2 strikes all the chords with murder mystery, momentum, and romantic development that is going to really satisfy fans of book 1.

Thanks to the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review of the story.

Garcia is back with the second instalment in her ‘Corner of Eden and Darkness' series. Mae and Brandon go on the offensive in this story, determined to capture the shape-changer who has possessed Mae’s best friend, Benji. They must also try to rescue Mae’s sister,Emmie, who is lost in Limbo, part of the dark area of the Fae world. If this wasn’t enough, a serial killer is on the loose.

The story is a runaway that forces you to read faster and longer with each session as you head straight towards the shocking climax that no one could predict. Really eager for the next book!
