I was having withdrawal symptoms waiting for the next John Decker story when this surprisingly turned up. The CUSP Files book 3. This one starring Colum O'shea, my favourite supporting characters in the Decker universe.
In this novella he is investigating how a prisoner can be alive in a Harrowgate prison and turn up dead half an hour later on a dock in Brooklyn. Colum goes undercover in this privately run prison where at night strange noises happen and the air is filled with electricity as ghosts appear. That's when other inmates disappear.
The plot moves along swiftly to a tense final set piece, of half of the book, but still has time to learn a little more background information about Colum.
The writing is excellent and easy to read grasping you on this ride to the thrilling end. It is the perfect length for the story which needed no padding. For me, it hit the spot perfectly.

Prison or he'll on earth?

Colm O'Shea goes undercover in a prison where inmates with no family ties go missing or wind up dead. Excellent, thrilling mystery from the CUSP files! Hooked from the beginning, it was a very hard book to put down. I'm looking forward to the next CUSP files or John Decker book with great anticipation!

Oh my, this story was so intense.

Oh my, this story was so intense. The ending was perfect. But, there were two really bad guys who got away. So, there hopefully is a, to be a continued. I hope.

Colum O'Shea is sent under cover to a prison, after reports of strange events are reported and prisoners going missing. Good story, that leaves Colum unnerved, as the sinister motives behind the events are revealed.

Thrills and Chills

This series is always the best. It keeps you tense wondering what the outcome could possibly be. The main character is fun to follow, he makes it a roller coaster ride. I really enjoy the sci-fi edge.

3 stars. I don't typically care for novellas. Their brevity means things must happen quickly including the ending. Usually to quickly for me. Also, I am not fond of stories set in prisons so that's another reason for the lower score. It was OK as i wait for the next John Decker book.

This book was not like the John Decker series. It was terribly disappointing for me. It was not tied up at the end, IMHO, although many other reviewers seemed to think so. I follow this author, and I wish there were more of John Decker the was he was.

The only thing wrong with Anthony M. Strong's books is that there to far in between. I've enjoyed everyone I've read and this one is no exception.

Fun quick read.

Took a few hours, but it was lots of fun in a mystery/thriller fashion, more SciFi than spooky. Reading past my bedtime, again.
