3.5 Stars Love this Author and this book didn't disappoint. Angelique is saved by Jean-pierre after her uncle tries to sell her he in turn convinces his cousin Roland to marry her as he feels that he is in need of a wife, I do not want to give the plot away so no spoilers just a thumbs up from me and I would just like to say it made a pleasant change to read this kind of book takes me back to the bodice rippers of earlier days loved it .
Be swept back in time to New Orleans and plantation life in the bayous in the Cajun Bride. It's a rollercoaster ride of jealousy, secrets and misunderstandings. It's a wonderful, well plotted tale that hooks you from the start and reels you in for the duration. Roland and Angelique came alive for me as I pictured them falling in love and overcoming their uncertainties. Eugenia Riley's characters never failed to delight; they are likeable (and not so likable), engaging individuals with real flaws who seem very realistic. Jean Pierre Delacroix, notorious rogue saves Angelique from a fate worse than death when her uncle wants to sale her to the highest bidder during a card game. Jean Pierre schemes to marry his cousin Roland to Angelique. It's a passionate romance with uncertainty, threats, deception, drama, suspense, insecurities, fear of rejection and twists and turns abound that make for one sigh worthy romance.
Lots of on/off in this story. This is the first book I have read from this author and after reading this I would definitely read another. The Hero has serious hangups and as a result his paranoia affects his relationship with the heroine, in some ways it was good, it was definitely well written but at times I got fed up up of the push/pull. I would have liked an epilogue just to round things off esp as the final reconciliation cones very late towards the end and as a result it feels a bit abrupt.
Although I wasn’t a fan of the male protagonist I did still truly enjoy the story. Their jealousy and time apart pulled at my heart and their confused emotions really made me emotional. The plot of the opera singer was ok, but what drew me in most was the development of their relationship. I didn’t like how Roland was constantly on the verge of violence. Like he could t control himself — it made him unlikeable in that way. They both played the fool a little too much as well but I suppose that’s why I liked their jealous times apart.
What a great read. The emotional turmoil of the time and the vulnerability of women whose fragile hold on life is dependant on the kindness of others. The characters are great and the story is a frustrating roller coaster. You wonder if they'll ever be on the same page. Roland is an upright clever and accomplished man but he is beautifully flawed but passionate. I loved this book and will be on the lookout for more about this family
Plodding is how I read it. It couldn't keep my interest. I kept reading, stopping and coming back to try to finish it. The descriptions of everything were done well. Though I think that might have been part of the problem. The descriptions may have been the problem. I felt there was more of the energy that should have been around the characters and the story line than the description.
Typical period romance novel. Man gets girl under odd circumstances, falls in love. Girl fights her feelings, runs away multiple times. In the end both profess their love and conceives a child. The thing different from other books is she is never kidnapped by another man. It was a nice story.
This book is slightly different from the other books the author has written. This makes it hard to mention anything about the book. I can’t say that it is a lovely romance and when you read this book you will see why. I enjoyed the romance.
This book is so well written I could hardly put it down the characters were so amazing so much excitement this boom made me laugh and cry I loved it so much. Thank you for an amazing read
This was the first time I read her book. This book was Great. The ending was Good also. This book is a Must Read. I Love this book. If, you don't need this book you will be missing out on a Great Book. ♨ 🔥👍👍👍
This is a tale of passion, misunderstandings, and a searing love that Angelique and Roland just can't seem to get right. You will find yourself rooting for these troubled lovers. I enjoyed this book and recommend it.
What an incredible story. At first wasn't sure about the plot which is complex, yet the story evolves into a loving story. New Orleans is a perfect setting for a southern simmer of a story.
Nice setting, New Orleans and plantation. Story was a bit dry with much bickering back and forth among characters. It got quite tiresome. Not my favorite book of hers. I LOVE the time travel romances Eugenia Riley writes.
What a story by an Author I have not read before. A great storyline with the story flowing smoothly from page to page, it is well written. I know I will be reading more by this Author. I read a copy through KU and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
What an enchanting story and so well written all the secondary characters added to the spice would like to have seen Jean Pierre brought to his knees would highly recommend
Angelique thought she married because it was her parent’s idea. She fell in love with her husband and he totally loved her. He was very possessive of her which had her wanting to prove her love. Once they trusted each other they realized real love.
This story had me staying up at night to see what happened next... only to be disappointed that there was no real epilogue to tie it up in a nice HEA story. Was kinda let down by this.
Otherwise, had strong characters and a solid plot.
I really enjoyed this story. A hot cajun man and woman and the hot fiery things that happen both in and out of the bedroom. So intense and steamy no matter what it is. I recommend it. I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
