Beautiful, Reflective, and Full of Hope

The Tangled Threads Between Us is such a beautiful story. It is not your typical second-chance romance; it is a story about starting over, healing, and getting a second chance at life.

The story follows Nancy, who discovers that the man she sacrificed everything for is a fraud, and Osaze, who finds out that the life he thought he knew was built on lies. Together, they both have to find a way to rebuild and embrace a new beginning.

Nancy’s story was incredibly heartbreaking. Discovering why her parents treated her the way they did made everything even more painful. This book beautifully explores what many middle children experience in families—the feeling of being overlooked, seeking love and validation, and how that can influence the choices they make. Nancy’s decisions were not simply about poor judgment; they were shaped by years of feeling unloved and unseen.

Osaze’s journey was equally emotional as he comes to terms with the truth about his late wife and realizes that so much of what he believed was a lie. I loved how his family showed up for him, protected him, and loved him without forcing him to talk before he was ready.

I also loved seeing Nancy refuse to stay down after everything she went through. Watching her pick herself up and start over was one of the most beautiful parts of the story.

This book touches on infidelity, parental love, the absence of parental love, healing, and finding the courage to begin again.

Amaka Azie truly has no bad books in my opinion, and this story was another beautiful and reflective read.

This is a 5-star read, and I highly recommend it.

BOOK REVIEW 📚
The Tangled Threads Between Us by Amaka Azie

I went into this book expecting just another regular romance, but what I got instead was a story that sat with me long after I closed the last page.

"The Tangled Threads Between Us" introduces us to Nancy and Osaze two people carrying more than their share of hurt.
Nancy leaves Lagos after her boyfriend is caught in an international scandal. She returns to Benin City hoping for a fresh start, but life as it often does, brings her face to face with Osaze a man unraveled by grief, uncertainty, and secrets of his own.

What I loved most about this book is how beautifully it explores identity, family, and healing. It asks quiet but heavy questions:"To what extent can we make sacrifices in the name of love ?" and "What truly makes someone family?"

At the beginning I found myself annoyed with Nancy's decision abandoning her education to chase after a man’s dream but as the story unfolded, I came to respect her decisions and the courage it took for her to choose herself when it mattered most.

I also loved the support she received from Osaze and her sister Irene all through the story.

What made this book hit even harder is that sadly, this is what some girls go through, having to start over, being misunderstood by family, and having to fight to reclaim themselves.

Despite all the pain, the story is ultimately hopeful because after everything Nancy went through, she found a way to rebuild not just her life, but herself.

If you love stories about second chances, complicated family dynamics, and finding yourself after hearbreak, then "The Tangled Threads Between Us" should be your next read☺️.

I was very privileged to have been gifted an advance copy of this awesome book and it is one of my best reads from Amaka.

I loved the storytelling. It was honest and fresh. I was immersed into the male and female POVs from the first page, and the sitiation was so very realistic.

Osaze was believable and Nancy was such a hilarious character, and a rare breed in a world today where people refuse to get into anyone's business or offer help in times of distress for fear of getting into trouble. And im so glad they met how and when they met!!!!

This is a family drama in every sense of the word with betrayal, hidden secrets and complex emotions that have you wondering what you would do if put in the same situation. And the romance was just what both characters needed at the end of the day. Also, what i wanted to see happen. ☺️☺️☺️

Well done Amaka! A 5 star read.

Scene: Me, opening this book expecting romance.

Me: “Okayyy, let’s see what Nancy and Osaze are giving.”

The Tangled Threads Between Us: “Oh, you want romance?”

Me: “Yes?”

The book: “Interesting. Here’s betrayal. Here’s grief. Here’s family drama. Here are secrets. Here’s a woman trying to rebuild her entire life. Here’s a man carrying enough emotional baggage to need his own postcode.”

Me: “…oh.”

Because why did I start this book thinking I was just going to sit here and enjoy a romance, only to find myself emotionally invested in EVERYTHING happening around these two?

Nancy’s life has basically fallen apart. The man she trusted is gone, the life she thought she knew is no longer what she believed it was, and she finds herself back in Benin City trying to figure out what comes next.

And then there’s Osaze.

Grieving. Guarded. Carrying his own history.

Somehow, these two people, both dealing with their own mess, find a little comfort in each other.

And me?

I was seated..

What I really liked about Nancy was how human her journey felt. She isn’t suddenly fine because she came home, and meeting Osaze doesn’t magically fix everything. She’s still trying to understand what happened to her life and who she wants to be now.

And I genuinely enjoyed watching her figure that out.

Then there was Osaze.

Sir.

What exactly are you hiding?👀

Because every time I thought I had finally figured this man out, another piece of his past would surface and I’d be sitting there like:

“Osaze… I am trying to understand you. Please cooperate😭”

And I really liked watching Nancy and Osaze get closer. Their relationship grew quietly in the middle of all the chaos—the conversations, the comfort, the gradual trust, and those little moments where you could tell they were becoming important to each other.

I found myself paying more attention to those quieter moments than the grand romantic ones because that’s where their connection felt the most genuine.

That’s what made me root for them.

Of course, the family drama was doing its absolute best to test my patience..

Because why do families in books always know everything except how to communicate?!

There were moments when I wanted to physically enter the story and say:

“Everybody sit down. Nobody is leaving this room until we tell the WHOLE truth😭😂”

And honestly, that chaos is part of what made the story work for me. So many of the characters and their choices are connected that one revelation never seems to affect just one person. Nancy’s past, Osaze’s history, their families, the secrets, the grief and the choices people made all keep colliding and creating new consequences.

And that’s when the title really clicked for me.

The Tangled Threads Between Us isn’t just about Nancy and Osaze finding each other. Their story is tied to family, love, loss, secrets, forgiveness and the lives of the people around them. One thread keeps pulling on another until, by the end, you start seeing how all those seemingly separate pieces connect..

If you want a romance wrapped in family drama, secrets, grief, second chances and emotional healing, put The Tangled Threads Between Us on your TBR📚

Because there’s so much more to this story than two people finding each other—and trust me, you’ll want to see how everything eventually comes together❤️

The Tangled Threads Between Us by Amaka Azie

Amaka Azie is one of my favourite writers because her writing style is so relatable and enjoyable. She has an amazing way of making every story feel engaging, effortless and easy to get lost in.

This book gave me so many happy feelings, but let me tell you , I experienced the torture of jealousy in the first few pages because who wouldn’t want expensive apology gifts whenever their partner offends them? 😉😂

Thankfully, that feeling didn’t last long because the real story began after that! From heartbreak and brokenness to parental rejection and homelessness, this book takes you on an emotional journey filled with twists and unexpected turns.

Nancy Usifo, the FMC, is such an amazing character. Sadly, she spent so much time seeking recognition in the wrong places. I loved how she stood her ground when a stranger needed help, taking him to the hospital, paying his bills and waiting for him to regain consciousness.

Her parents also had secrets, and those secrets added even more depth and tension to the story.

My favourite character has to be Nancy’s younger sister Irene. I absolutely loved her presence and the role she played in the story. My worst character hmmm you would have to read it hmmmm her parents for sure.

And Osaze… 🫣 He was clearly loved at home, and whenever I read about his daughter, I just smiled. 😊

I was praying earnestly for Nancy and Osaze to become an item, but… well, you have to read the book! 😂

Final Thoughts

Overall, The Tangled Threads Between Us is a heartfelt story about how love, family, forgiveness and acceptance can help people find their way through rejection, loss and painful secrets.

Nancy’s journey, her younger sister’s memorable presence and Osaze’s warmth made the story especially unforgettable, while the emotional twists kept me invested from beginning to end.

It left me smiling, reflecting and grateful for the reminder that even the most tangled lives can still be gently rewoven into something beautiful.

Amaka Azie did not come to play! 👏🏾📚 love you moreeeee

The Tangled Threads Between Us follows Nancy Usifo, whose choices lead her down an unexpected path filled with heartbreak, family struggles, and difficult truths. When an unexpected encounter brings Osaze into her life, Nancy must navigate complicated relationships while learning to choose herself and pursue her dreams.

When I started reading, I dragged Nancy!😩😂 But as I continued, I began to understand some of her decisions. Still, there were moments when I wanted to shake her and ask if she was hearing herself, especially when it comes to Ehi and his manipulations😭

Nancy’s parents ennnnnh!😭 I understand that people have their own struggles and painful experiences but that doesn’t excuse how they treat others. And that was the situation with Nancy’s parents. Nancy deserved better, and I loved that she didn’t rush into forgiving her family. My girl chose herself!👏

Watching Nancy pursue her dreams and build a life of her own was one of my favourite parts. I also loved her relationship with her sister, and Nancy and Amara? 🥹❤️Their bond was so beautiful!

And Osaze? I loved how he loved Amara despite everything. I had no doubt he would be a good partner for Nancy, and I really enjoyed their connection🥹it was so cool😎

But the ending😩😩😩 l need More lovey-dovey moments between Nancy and Osaze, more family moments, and more of Nancy enjoying the life she worked so hard to build. The ending felt rushed to me and I just wasn’t ready to leave these characters🥹

I really enjoyed this emotional story about love, family, forgiveness, and choosing yourself. Despite my issues with the ending, Nancy’s journey was worth reading📚📚❤️
