Wrecked is third book in the Visions of Murder series by author Lissa Hamblen featuring local TV news reporter Bekka Douglas. Bekka is well respected in her field, partly due to her knack in scooping the competition by appearing at the crime scene before anyone hears about it.
That’s because Bekka gets visions—disturbing visions she’d prefer not to have—and she sees the crime occur before it happens. But her visions are a bit hazy and sometimes difficult to figure out.
In Wrecked, a series of home burglaries in her own neighborhood leads to a scary vision about her next-door neighbor and her mother. While she tries to keep them safe, she wrestles with a potential plum job offer that would mean moving away and the temporary absence of her cop boyfriend who’s been deployed with the National Guard. There’s an additional little family matter involving a secret her mother has held, which Bekka discovers by reading her mother’s journal (Not cool, Bekka!).
All these events dovetail, and the big mystery that builds slowly comes to a satisfying conclusion. I especially loved the well-developed characters who seem like real people.
I really want to read more in this series. I hope the author continues with it. If you like a solid mystery with a touch of woo-woo and great characters, snap this one up.
