Circe is back and she is up in the air. Literally. She is a guest at the Royal Air Temples and with Nathaniel back by her side, she suddenly feels as though she can take on the world. But the world might be slightly bigger than Circe has expected.
What is she to make of the Queen of the Air, who seems to hold all the answers to Circe's questions in the palm of her hand, both those she has asked, and those which she is still to ask? And what of Prince Zalas, the white eyed boy who radiates an untamed and mysterious power from every pore? Meanwhile the dark and dangerous Obsidian Bones waits for her just outside the Kingdom walls with perhaps the biggest secret of them all ...
Everything has changed from that fateful day that Circe was snatched in the night. Her questions begin to outweigh the answers she is receiving and when a shocking truth is revealed, will her priorities change in order to protect the one that she loves most? Or will she find the strength to let him go?
The second book is honestly a stark improvement from the first one, and I usually don't say this often. It is a clear level up and it was so refreshing.
We are now fully immersed into the supernatural, or the other world. And I honestly love it. We're introduced to the purpose of the pendants, how they brought peace but also destruction. We go into the politics of the other world that are surprisingly similar to the one of our own. It relates to ours while highlighting stark differences.
Most of the story is told through Circe's POV but also through every other major character, which to me is not the best option ever. It's mostly told through first person, which saves some of the confusion I felt from the previous book. The love triangle ends, thank goodness! Now each characters POV actually benefits to our understanding, now it pieces the story better and helps us reach the realization of what is happening and whats to come.
This book focuses highly on suspense, which to me is amazing! I was genuinely on my toes, eating up everything. The foreshadowing to later events was properly placed and was subtle to me the first read through. I liked the little plot twist that happened mid way and then towards the end. We see progress in Circe's and Obsidian's relationship, as well as with the rest of the crew. We see Circe try to balance her old world and the new world, and watch as it tore her apart emotionally and physically. We see her strength and her weaknesses, feel her turmoil, and develop along with her.
This is magnificent. Such a beautiful writing and story like this does not deserve to just be in wattpad. It should be shown to the world just how fantastic this book is. The improvement from the first book to the second one is just, wow.
The author deserves a lot more. She should try making it into a book.
After I read this book I slid down my couch and slowly had to sink my way back down to reality. If there's a possibility to get a high from a good book, then this is definitely one of them.
