Avery McHale has spent years trying to uncover the truth about her mother’s murder. Now she’s also fighting to prove she didn’t murder her FBI mentor. Apparently one nightmare at a time just wasn’t enough.
This one is exciting! Avery is hunted, arrested, threatened, framed, and forced to sit on the sidelines having to put her trust and confidence in her PI friend and her lawyer to keep the wolves at bay that want to destroy her and lock her up in prison indefinitely. Heading the cast of enemies is a former friend and associate of the FBI who is bent on her capture and making her life as hellish as it could be. The FBI and the true instigator, all with considerable power would very much prefer she disappear permanently. The deeper she digs, the more dangerous it becomes—and several seemingly separate events begin fitting into a much larger and uglier picture.
Avery working with Kenna, Mason, and an unexpected source inside the FBI is all she’s got for firepower against what seems like insurmountable odds. But she’s smart, gutsy, and willing to take some enormous risks when the situation demands it. And there are plenty of those situations!
This was a real adrenaline rush with corruption, murder, betrayal, old secrets, and some very satisfying answers.
I couldn’t fly through the pages fast enough,and then there’s the author, Alex Sigmore…always with those endings she leaves you with! Her series (and this one no exception) never seem to be neatly tied up in a bow. Nope, she leaves the reader with wanting more to see what next happens. Yep! I’ll be there for next installment!

This one is exciting! Who Was the Third Woman?
Hale Hastings, aka Alyssa McHale, had thought she had found a safe hiding place and loyal friends, as well as a furry companion, in the last book, Over Your Grave. Alas, it wasn't to be.
In Alex Sigmore's latest Hale Hastings Book Three, Before She Knew, Hale opens her door and sees her worst nightmare: her former roommate and FBI academy buddy, Phebe Richards, and her FBI friend, Noah Delgado, who had been helping her hide. Hale is presented with an arrest warrant.
However, thanks to quick thinking and the chutzpah to work the spirit of the law, Hale's lawyer, Mason Campbell, argues that the agents don't have a warrant to search the property. Kenna, who owns the condo, quickly states that she doesn't permit them to enter her premises.
While the two very aggravated FBI Agents go to get the proper paperwork, Hale makes it outside in time to encounter ASAC Lachlan Shepherd. She and Mason convince him to arrest her, arrange for quiet transport to DC, and place her in protective custody. As they drive away, they wave to a furious Phebe Richards.
Once Hale is released on two million dollars in bail, which Kenna helps pay, Hale must meet with Phebe every day at 8:30 am to avoid being arrested. Meanwhile, Mason and Kenna pursue her defense. Hale is forbidden to work on her own defense.
Through red herrings and real leads, Mason and Kenna keep tracking the real perpetrator. Hale, meanwhile, proceeds with her cold case. Strange progressions develop and, before the end, you'll be shocked by which Agent is working on behalf of which person.
Before She Knew ramps up the history of Alyssa McHale dba Hale Hastings. The next book in the series is eagerly awaited by all of the Alex Sigmore fans.

Love this series, you just want to keep reading it. I feel like I am right there with Hale and the other characters. I hope there is a 4th to see what happens. Check it out, Alex Sigmore knows how to write a story.

What a surprise to learn about all three deaths and how they are connected. “Perp” has escaped custody, has mega resources. Hale/Audrey’s challenges are far from over.

It's when a surprising, shocking piece of evidence comes to light... the case against Hale Hastings has turned far more personal than anyone could have known. And far more destructive as a killer's name comes to light that will change everything and place upon the table a complex web of victims that goes beyond Hale herself.
