Great Book! Unexpected Twists

Some thrillers keep you reading because you have absolutely no idea who to trust.

The Accident kept me reading because I was pretty sure I knew exactly who I didn’t trust. 😂

Elizabeth had what I affectionately started calling the crazy eyes almost immediately. Dalton shows her kindness and attention, and she basically locks onto him and decides: Yep. That’s the one. I want that.

And nothing—and I mean nothing—is going to stand in her way.

What surprised me most about The Accident, though, was how emotional it became. This isn’t just a story about figuring out what happened. It’s about grief, guilt, loyalty, obsession, and the things people will do because they love someone—or because they believe they do.

Dalton absolutely broke my heart. He’s sweet, loyal almost to a fault, and deeply imperfect. Watching him experience so much loss while continuing to love, grieve, forgive, and try to move forward gave this story an emotional weight I wasn’t expecting from a psychological thriller.

And Elizabeth…

Girl.

GIRL.

I actually felt sorry for her at first. That sympathy started packing its bags pretty damn quickly. 😂 What makes her so effective isn’t simply that she’s obsessive—she’s calculated. Watching everything unfold became less Who did it? and more OH GOD, WHAT ARE YOU DOING NOW?

I also appreciated that the revelations weren’t all dependent on giant “GOTCHA!” twists. A lot of them hit because of what they meant emotionally for these characters.

That being said, the final stretch absolutely got me.

And Dalton?

Sir.

I YELLED.

I laughed. I got teary-eyed. I yelled at fictional people who absolutely could not hear me. I repeatedly questioned everyone’s life choices.

Basically, I had a fantastic time.

If you like character-driven psychological thrillers where obsession, manipulation, grief, complicated relationships, and emotional consequences matter just as much as the suspense, put The Accident on your radar.

I received this as an ARC and Loved this story. Karma is real and in the end no matter what you get what's coming to you and Elizabeth was an awful person who made everyone miserable. I read this book in two days as I couldn't put it down wanting to know what was going to happen next. Was hoping Dalon and Gabbi got together and Morgan and Leo got a loving mom figure and she had step kids to love. Great story. Keep me wanting more and a reminder you never know what anyone is capable of when they want something.

I NEEDED to know what was going to happen next. And the ending - unexpected but definitely worthy of the story.

Oh man, what can I say about The Accident without giving too much away?! This book has you screaming “WHAT” so many times. It’s like having a front row seat to the craziest event in a small town, followed by unbelievable and as times, questionable, decisions. Definitely give this one a read!

I went into reading this ARC knowing absolutely nothing about The Accident other than what I could gather from the title and cover and wow, what a fun surprise this book turned out to be!

This story took me on a wild, page-turning ride from beginning to end. The pacing was fantastic, with just the right amount of suspense and twists to keep me completely engaged. I found myself wanting to keep turning the pages because I needed to know what was going to happen next. And that ending? I never saw it coming!

The characters were another highlight for me. They were well developed, and I especially enjoyed watching their growth throughout the story. Their development added depth to the plot and made me more invested in what happened to them.

As an Ohio reader, I also loved seeing familiar Ohio locations mentioned throughout the book. Those little details made the story feel even more relatable and enjoyable.

I also appreciated that the MMC was left with the potential for a happily-ever-after. Even though the author didn't spell out that HEA in the ending, I loved being able to imagine the possibilities for his future.

Overall, The Accident was a 5-star read for me! Going into a book knowing almost nothing and coming out completely surprised and thoroughly entertained is one of my favorite reading experiences. Heather Osting definitely delivered a story that kept me guessing and turning the pages!

This was my first Heather Osting book I’ve read, and it won’t be my last! I haven’t really read much thrillers, but I must say this book had me glued from the very beginning and I definitely need to add more books like this to my TVR. All the twists and turns will have you guessing to what comes next and this book will definitely keep you on your toes for sure.
