Is Bigfoot prowling around Reckless River, Washington? Has Sasquatch come to the city? Barbara Reed doesn’t know if she believes the legendary creature exists, but evidence is stacking up. Something big is scavenging for food in city parks. Something tall and heavy left footprints across a dirt parking lot. And something huge and hairy careened into her one night on the riverfront trail. Did that same creature kill a man and drag his body into a swamp? Or was the killer human? Will justice be undermined by media frenzy, a tide of tourism, and hundreds of hunters? With help from the usual suspects, Barb, her drug-cop boyfriend, her pearl-powered wealthy neighbor, and Cheese Puff, her less-than-loyal dog, set out to solve a mystery, catch a murderer, and bust a few myths along the way. Carolyn J. Rose grew up in New York's Catskill Mountains, graduated from the University of Arizona, logged two years in Arkansas with Volunteers in Service to America, and spent 25 years as a television news researcher, writer, producer, and assignment editor in Arkansas, New Mexico, Oregon, and Washington. She lives in Vancouver, Washington, and her interests are reading, gardening, swimming, and NOT cooking.
Definitely another great addition to the Subbing Isn't for Sissies series! This time it's summer break & substitute Barb needs to earn money to pay toward her substantial student loan. So she takes a job doing paper work at a local garage. One morning she discovers very large footprints in the parking lot at work. While Barb isn't sold on the idea, her coworkers decide the footprints could be those of the elusive Bigfoot and decide to cash in on the interest this discovery stirs up. Then add in an eccentric cast of her neighbors, Cheese Puff her pampered pup, her weird sister Iz, and live-in cop boyfriend Dave's spoiled daughter to further ramp up the craziness. Stir in a one dead body she finds in the same parking lot and you get a wickedly entertaining story! This is a light and easy read that could stand alone, but much benefits from the knowledge acquired in the other 3 books. A definitely great summer read!
Carolyn J Rose has written another winner! Love the "Substitute" series and this one did not disappoint.
"Myth" finds Barbara and her friends getting ready to enjoy the summer. Working over the summer in an auto shop, she comes face to face with murder and Bigfoot..what a combo!
All the eccentric and lovable characters return for this case - Mrs. B, the mature former showgirl with a heart of gold and a bank account to match, Dario the slightly dangerous (or maybe a lot dangerous) mafia (or so he says) wiseguy and the love of Mrs. B, Cheese Puff and Lucy two spoiled puppies, the Cheese Puff Care Comittee (never mess with the "little Prince " when these folks are around, a hunky boyfriend, a teen age step daughter (almost) and all the drama she brings, Izzy the sister and her ever suffering girlfriend Penelope and other neighbors who are ready for action!
The series is filled with mystery, romance and humor! Enjoy!!
Awesome! A murder with Big Foot connections are afoot. Can she solve the mystery of the giant footprints and the death that seems to be linked to them. A great quirky read with tongue in cheek humour.
