One Liner: Progress in overarching plot

Agatha Christie is having a great time with the success of her latest book, The Seven Dials Mystery, and her honeymoon on the Nile with her husband, Max Miller. However, the Secret Service finds some coincidences in the new book, and Eliza is tasked with keeping a close eye on Christie.

As the assistant to the secretary of The Detection Club, Eliza reluctantly agrees to accompany Agatha and Max on their honeymoon cruise. However, she and Theo have more work than expected when some fellow passengers attract their attention. When a guest is found dead, it’s a race against time to find the killer.

The story is told from Eliza and Theo’s third-person POVs.

My Thoughts

Well, this was a mixed read like the previous one but for different reasons.

Firstly, the case-related characters are well done. Each of them is distinct (none really likeable), and their opinion of others, etc., are easy to align with their characterization. In a way, I enjoyed the book more for them than the FMC.

The dog doesn’t have much role in this one except as a companion, which may or may not work for you, depending on what you expect. I found it convincing given the setting.

The MMC’s repeated inner monologue about the FMC has been reduced from the previous book, which was a relief. There is still some, but there are other developments that add to the tension. Liked this a lot more. NGL, I still feel he is better off finding someone who truly appreciates him.

The FMC annoyed me quite a bit this time. It’s like she forgets people are human, and many of them are influenced by their feelings and emotions. And she dislikes it when anyone points that out to her.

I was rather surprised by a development towards the end. Feels like there’s an ulterior motive there. We’ll know in the next book, I guess. The setting has been decided, so let’s see what the case brings.

I did like the MMC’s sister. Wish we could meet her again. Girl’s got a sense of humor.

Also, I appreciate the mention of the ancient Hindu Chaturanga and how it was gradually modified into chess.

To summarize, The Case of the Christie Honeymoon Murder is entertaining and interesting enough, with different types of dramas playing out. Not a favorite, but not bad either.

Thank you, NetGalley and Boldwood Books, for the eARC. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

Who wants friends on their honeymoon? No one and Agatha was not happy to see Eliza and Theo are one the river cruise with her and Max. But Eliza's sister Jane, MI5 agent, wants the two to watch for a possible spy. Maybe even Agatha. Or another guest. So the two are wearing disguises so that won't be recognized. But the other guest was not a nice person and someone killed him. Eliza came out to announce she is formerly of Scotland Yard and starts investigating. This is a fun mystery with many people who seem to be a suspect. On the other hand, Theo is called home as his father is gravely ill. Eliza does figure out who the killer is by the end of the cruise with Agatha's help. Theo does it back by the end of the cruise. Fun new beginnings are coming in the future. Great mystery with some suspense and red herrings.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review. These are my thoughts.

oh to go back in time and share a cruise and a mystery with Agatha Christie.

Eliza and Theo would rather be anywhere else but onboard this ship, but once a murder happens, Eliza’s Scotland Yard instincts take over—and so does the fun! I mean, why else would they be wearing disguises on Agatha Christie's honeymoon, and as a favor to MI5 no less. Apparently, the book 7 Dials caught MI5's (Jane) attention and Eliza and Theo must figure out if Ms. Christie or anyone else on board is a spy....

I loved watching them piece together the mystery, though I was just as caught up in their growing feelings for each other. Every book I picture Theo pulling flower petals while reciting "she loves me, she loves me not". Will something happen ? Not Saying !!!!

The slower pace gives you time to enjoy the Egyptian setting and get to know the characters, with a little wisdom and even a lesson on poisons from Agatha Christie along the way. A thoroughly enjoyable book and with an ending I loved

Book #5 in the Detection Club series takes place on a cruise ship on the Nile. Agatha and Max are on their honeymoon; they have no idea the rest of the club is on board looking for a spy. Eliza and Theo are surrounded by the usual characters as they keep their eyes and ears open for clues. When a passenger is murdered, they step into the open and investigate. Kelly Oliver continues to gift readers excellent mysteries set during the golden ages. Each book can be read as a standalone, but all of the stories arc into the next books, building a connection between the readers and characters that makes the books better.

Similar to Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile (featuring her most famous detective Hercule Poirot), Agatha herself is on a cruise on the Nile for her honeymoon, following her wedding to Max Mallowan. Unbeknown to her, on the boat with them, there are also her fellow members of the Detection Club, former Met office Eliza Baker, and struggling writer Theo Sharp, under cover for the MI5 to discover if one of the passengers, Agatha Christie included, is a spy. However, when one of the passengers is discovered dead, Eliza and Theo must reveal themselves to investigate the murder.

The Case of the Christie Honeymoon Murder is the fifth book in the Detection Club series and, although not my favourite, I still enjoyed it very much. There is the usual cast of characters (even Dorothy L. Sayers makes an appearance) and we see more of Eliza’s sister, Jane, who works for the MI5 and has recruited Eliza for the mission, and Theo’s demanding family. The two protagonists remain Eliza and Theo and their relationship is as much central to the story as the murder mystery as we see them still navigating their feelings for each other as well as family and society expectations.

The Case of the Christie Honeymoon Murder is another thrilling read from Kelly Oliver: there is murder, poison, a cast of suspects, spies, but also some romance and a happy ending. I am looking forward to reading the next one!

While this one didn't have quite the deep dive into history that many others of the series have had, the characters of Eliza and Theo were more than enough to keep me engaged. We even got to know Eliza's sister Jane a bit better as well as meet Theo's aristocratic family, albeit under somber circumstances. We're definitely reminded of the weight of expected behavior for both male and females as we also meet Theo's sister and her potential beau. As always I found the characters fascinating, marveling at how well the author shared their innermost thoughts with alternating points of view between them. As usual, I found myself more attuned to Theo than the frequently rigid Eliza, all the while hoping they're manage to find a comfortable middle ground for their wannabe romance. I even found my disapproving take of Theo's parents thawing more than a bit.

As for the murder, as is expected in any story featuring Agatha Christie, in this case a honeymooning Agatha and Max, it's a complex one with many facets. Who killed the rich, overbearing Richard Hardwicke? There are several suspects, many family members, and, speaking of Christie, it happens in a locked room of sorts. Seems they're cruising along the Nile. I have to admit to expecting more pyramids and ancient curses or something given the locale, but while the author does a lovely job weaving the atmosphere of both the area and time, most of the story takes place on the boat, not ashore. We get a fun description of how Theo manages a trip between England and Egypt in the then quick time of about three days, too, a reminder that this isn't modern times. If you're curious, a little puzzle. It's set around the time Christie's "The Seven Dials" has become a major best seller.

I don't want to give away the plot, it's too much fun to sort it out without preconceptions, but will note that Eliza and Theo aren't exactly there by choice. In fact, neither is particularly comfortable even being there. They even do a pretty good job of staying incognito until....well, until the murder when Eliza just automatically reverts to her former Scotland Yard mode. From there on out, it's fun to watch the duo work both together and apart to sort out whodunit in a relatively short time. Of course, their thoughts do drift toward each other at times, with Eliza's tendency to avoid involvement contrasting with Theo's far more personal realizations of how much he wants her in his life. To be honest, I was probably as into that side of the story as the murder, go figure.

Bottom line, without saying more, I'll simply say I thoroughly enjoyed this episode and am definitely looking forward to more. I enjoyed the little bits of wisdom scattered throughout, whether focused on topics like duty, indifference, regret, or Theo's always present weight of expectations. Heck, we even learn a bit about poisons, from the character of Agatha Christie, no less. It you enjoy an mystery with lots of potential complications and well fleshed out characters with interesting back stories, hopes, fears, and dreams, you'll enjoy this one. True, not as fast moving as modern day cozies but the slower pace lets us get to know them all the better, not to mention savor the atmosphere and setting. Thanks #BoldwoodBooks for the intro to Eliza and Theo's world as well as the early peek at their Egyptian adventure. People are complicated and it makes this series all the more satisfying. Loved the ending!

This 5th in the Detection Club series has an intriguing setup: sleuths following the famous author Agatha Christie on her honeymoon Nile cruise with second husband Max Mallowan, an archaeologist. I've enjoyed many mysteries set in that era and locale, even a few by other authors that access other Detection Club personalities. So I was looking forward to this one. Eliza, an ex-Scotland Yard sleuth, guilted by her sister into spying on England's most famous crime writer under the Egyptian sun? Count me in.

Sadly that mood of anticipation didn't last. This is not a book easy to enjoy if you haven't read the others to understand how the various relationships got to where they are. The two leads - romantic as well as sleuthing - spend a lot of angst on their relationship (or not) which comes across as uni-dimensional without previous books' buildup, while her relationship with her sister is almost completely context-free (repeating 'you owe me so do this' multiple times doesn't add much context).

Agatha was invisible for much of the novel. When she was granted an active part, she was talked over and largely disregarded by the younger, brash Eliza. Despite their lengthy opening act (over 20% of the book), the other steamer passengers don't blossom in complexity as the story progresses; they just keep repeating variations on the same information (as, to be fair, does Eliza herself). The first murder is so thoroughly foreshadowed by the center-stage arrogant pronouncements of the first victim that it's a relief when their death finally hits the page. There are some plot shortcuts that seem downright lazy, such as a parent making a completely unheralded 180 (at least in this book) on a subject that's been built up to be a major crunch point.

There's just so much I found unconvincing that it was a slog to the finish line. Which is a real pity since the elements of a solid murder mechanism and motive were right there, ready to be wrapped around with sparkling characters and investigative challenges.

It's almost like two entirely separate stories were mashed together: one a deeply introspective and detail-rich look at the burden of inheriting an English estate that must be maintained despite the reluctant heir's yearning to make something different of their life, the other a superficial romp of a mystery novel that nobody is supposed to take seriously. Theo's chapters are immersive, descriptive, deeply if somewhat repetitively contemplating the societal challenges facing the English aristocracy of that era, while Eliza's chapters feel rushed and long-winded simultaneously due to the simpler language, lack of descriptive details (except the recurring scent of citrus?) and frequent repetition of clues from previous overheard conversations or interrogations.

Only after the pair are split up by heavy-handed Fate does each lead character comes more into their own. And that occurs too late in the novel to really engage a new reader with the love song of Theo and Eliza, much less inspire the newcomer to pick up previous books in the series. Since the series has had good reviews overall, maybe start with an earlier book and see how that goes.

This turned out to be a thoroughly enjoyable read. Though it took me a while to bond with the main protagonists, and I was slightly scrambling to work out what was going on – which was when I clocked that this is actually the fifth book in a series. No wonder I was slightly floundering. However, once the story got going, I quickly realised who was doing what to whom.

Oliver is good at depicting settings, giving us a full sensory experience. I could smell and taste the experience of being on the River Nile, as well as clearly visualise it. This was nicely complemented by the experience of a stately home in winter during a funeral, which was also fully described without breaking the narrative flow – not the easy task Oliver makes it look.

As for the murder mystery, it was as cosily familiar as a cup of hot chocolate. The victim was rich, ruthless, and very controlling. And had managed to stack up an impressive list of enemies, relations, and acquaintances with strong reasons to thoroughly resent and maybe want to murder him.

Theo and Eliza are kept busy on board the boat, not only trying to track down the variety of clues and red herrings, but also initially avoiding Agatha Christie, who is now honeymooning on the boat with her new husband, Max. Initially, they’d been instructed to keep out of her way, as she is also being suspected by the British Secret Service of being a spy, and Eliza has been tasked, unwillingly, to keep her under surveillance.

Another major plot line running alongside the murder mystery is the ongoing relationship between Eliza and Theo. I have to say, by the end, this was the one I cared most about. The reasons why they’d hit a brick wall within their relationship also made sense.

Any niggles? While I appreciate that anyone daft enough to start a series at book 5 is going to flounder just a tad at the beginning, I do feel there needs to be a strong bonding moment for the protagonists, in order to reintroduce them to fans of the series and allow newbies like me to learn about them and properly care before the story really gets going. It did take a couple of chapters before I was fully invested in the story.

Overall, however, this is a joy and thoroughly recommended for fans of historical murder mysteries, particularly those who are familiar with Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile and The Seven Dials. While I obtained an arc of The Case of the Christie Honeymoon Murder from the publisher via Netgalley, the opinions I have expressed are unbiased and my own.

Following close on the previous book in this series, The Case of the Christie Honeymoon Murder has Detection club secretary to the secretary, Eliza Baker, and her friend and frequent partner in solving murders, Theo Sharp, on a Nile cruise. While she is initially spying on Agatha Christie for Eliza's sister Jane, an MI5 agent, because Christie's latest book has some concerning connections to a British spy ring, Eliza's talents as a former Scotland Yard investigator are called into action after one of the other cruise guests is found dead in his locked room. The victim is a rich Brit on the cruise with his daughter, her new husband, his widowed sister, and his herbalist (and likely paramour), and every one of them has a motive to kill him. While Eliza collects evidence and examines clues with her beagle Queenie, Theo is called back to England because his father, the Earl of Fife, is gravely ill. The previous book in this series spent a lot of time in Theo's head, examining his unreciprocated feelings for Eliza. A subplot in the current book revolves around the fact that Theo knows that if his father dies he will be expected to make a match with someone who didn't grow up as an orphan on the streets of London, so he feels doomed to have to choose between his family responsibilities and his own heart. I enjoy the historical setting of this series. Eliza is a bit of a difficult character to relate to because her past makes her extremely reluctant to rely on anyone else or feel feelings, but especially in this book the reader gets to see some of the potential cracks in her resolve. The murder mystery was complex with plenty of red herrings, and it is always fun to see the fictional Agatha Christie contribute to the investigation. Oliver weaves in facts from Christie's biography, lending an air of "this could have happened". I started this series on book 3, so I can attest to being able to jump into the series at any point. Enough backstory is provided to get a new reader up to speed, but I do think that reading the books in order helps one better understand the characters, especially Eliza and Theo.

Kelly Oliver The Case of the Christie Honeymoon Murder (The Detection Club Book 5) Boldwood Books, September 2026.

Thank you, NetGalley, for providing me with this uncorrected proof for review.

Kelly Oliver has an excellent vehicle for her lovely writing style. While familiar figures such as Agatha Christie and Dorothy L. Sayers move in and out of the narrative (and in this novel Max Mallowan appears too), the possible romance between Eliza Baker and Theo Sharp begins to blossom, withers and recovers, delightful Queenie snuffles and seeks titbits…and, of course, a murder takes place and is investigated, the engaging narrative with brilliant descriptions of the surroundings and entertaining characterisation is flawless.

On this occasion, Eliza is prevailed upon by her sister Jane, MI5 agent, to travel on the honeymoon cruise of the newly wed Mallowans. Under suspicion of being involved in an espionage conspiracy, Agatha Christie is under investigation. The reason for such suspicion? The plot of Christie’s Seven Dials Mystery. However, it is a murder that is central to the narrative, with suspicion landing on the close circle accompanying the victim, Sir Richard Hardwicke.

Eliza’s investigations, her relationship with Theo, and one of her employers at the Detection Club, Agatha Christie, and of course, Queenie, are well drawn. Eliza’s background and Theo’s are juxtaposed, creating a personal background to the relationships in the Hardwicke circle where Hardwicke controls his environment creating various levels of anguish and anger in his family and ghost writer.

The murder is well plotted, Eliza’s successful result well-conceived, and the moving forward of relationships familiar from previous books in the series pleasing. Hopefully, there will be more novels in this series with its engaging characters, vibrant descriptions, and not least, the glimpses of the women detective writers.

Netgalley Review

Settle in for this cosy mystery; full of intrigue, twists and turns.

The author guides us through the investigation using long chapters that allow us to fully immerse ourselves before moving on to the next part. There were a lot of rich descriptions that surrounded what the characters were doing. We got to see what the characters were thinking, feeling and what their surroundings were in great detail.

Each chapter had a title that gave us an idea of what we were going to read about next.

There was a good flow between chapters, allowing us to move through the story well.

There was a fairly slow pace to the story, created by the level of detail on the characters' thoughts and their surroundings. In addition to that, there were also a number of different possibilities as to who the murderer was, that we kept revisiting and gradually building up. As the case gradually came together, the author kept giving the reader subtle recaps, which was helpful when we were trying to deduce who the murderer was.

The main character brought a determined, purely factual stance to the investigation. As always, it was interesting to see her work through the investigation.

I enjoyed revisiting the characters from the previous books. By this point in the series we have built up quite the picture of them. There is a romance line running through all the books and, whilst this book does work as a standalone, I do think that it would be better to have read the previous books and to have followed the romance line.

Finally we come to the settings. As I have mentioned above, there were quite a lot of rich, in depth details dotted throughout the book. It gave the story a more realistic and grounded feel.

Overall an interesting story, perfect for fans of cosy mysteries featuring characters based on well known people.

Eliza Baker is tasked with keeping an eye on Agatha Christie by her sister Jane, who works for MI5. The agency belives that Agatha may be a spy based on some information she published in her book, The Seven Dials Mystery.

Eliza and Theo are aboard the ship while they spy on Agatha during her honeymoon. They also suspect Sir. Richard Hardwicke, a retired merchant banker. Hardwicke is accompanied on this trip by Beatrice Lanyon, his sister and whose husband, Richard betrayed. His daughter Daphne Moreton, newly married to Julian Moreton and who still relies on him for monetary support. Sebastian Rooke, journalist. He is ghostwriting Hardwicke's memoir.
Dr. Evelyn Markham, the ship's physician and who looks after him because he has a heart condition. And Selina Ash, Herbalist and his constant companion. When a passenger us found dead, all of the people aboard the ship become suspects. They all hated the victim and benefitted from his death. Eliza and Theo must solve this murder before the ship reaches it's final stop.
Even though the full Detection Club wasn't together, it was still a fun and twisty murder mystery. I always enjoy having beloved characters back and Queenie did not disappoint. It was also nice to see Eliza and Theo's situationship move forward even though Eliza was very hesitant and there were some bumps on the road. Another great murder mystery with too many questionable characters to pick from.
Thank you Netgalley and Boldwood Books for this eARC. All opinions are entirely my own.

This is a completely charming cozy crime series featuring some of the greatest fictional detectives who have formed a society to investigate crime. In this book we see Agatha Christie and her new husband aboard a boat enjoying their honeymoon, unaware that Eliza, the secretary of said society, and her potential beau Theo are also aboard. While they are there to assist secret investigations by the government as to who may be involved in spying, including the great Ms Christie, a man is found dead in what Eliza believes are suspicious circumstances.

This case features more of Theo and Eliza than the rest of the society but has a great plot and pace with plenty of interesting twists and suspects to choose from. The characters are well developed and readers who have enjoyed the previous books will see a mellowing of Eliza’s character and a deepening of the relationship between her and Theo.

I enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it, as with the others in the series it can be read as a standalone but reading with the background knowledge of the characters makes the book more enjoyable.

Eliza Baker is content with her current life, earning enough to get by as secretary to the secretary of the Detection Club and winning the occasional chess game, bunking in with her sister Jane. Jane, an agent for MI5, decides to call in the debt for the free rent by asking her to help with an important case.
MI5 suspects that a wealthy lord and a well-known author might be involved in a spy network, plotting against King and Country. June wants Eliza to shadow them and see what they’re up to. The surveillance takes place on a cruise down the Nile, where the author and her archaeologist husband are on their honeymoon. When a murder occurs, Eliza is forced to use the skills she acquired in her previous career, the one she thought she’d shut the door on four years ago.
The author, of course, is Agatha Christie, and this entertaining novel is worthy of the Dame herself. There is an enclosed environment, an exotic setting, a controlling patriarch and his inheritance crazed family, a bit of poison, young love, and more. Perfect for fans of her work and for cozy mysteries set in the Golden Age of mysteries.

I've read most of Kelly Oliver's previous novels - in both her "Fiona Figg" and "Eliza Baker" series, and enjoyed them.

This book is the next in her "Eliza Baker" series, and is an excellent read. I felt that there was a lot more depth to the writing and characters, and really enjoyed the book.

We are reunited with several characters from earlier novels - including Eliza, Theo, and once again a fictionalised version of Agatha Christie. This time, the setting is more exotic - as the main strand of the plot follows Agatha and her new husband Max Malloran on their Egyptian honeymoon cruise. I shall say no more about the plot for fear of "spoilers" - but there are multiple strands to the plot, and developments in Eliza and Theo's relationship.

Recommended for fans of "cosy mystery" novels. I love the way that real-life characters appear throughout the story - a feature of other novels by Kelly Oliver.

This would be a perfect read for a journey or holiday. I'm already looking forward to reading about further adventures of Eliza, Theo and friends,

My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC. All opinions my own.

Recruited by her sister in, Eliza Baker finds herself reluctantly following Agatha Christie and her new husband while they are on a honeymoon cruise of the Nile. Agatha’s new book strayed a little too close to the truth, and the British Secret Service are convinced that she’s a spy and is passing along confidential information. When a fellow passenger mysteriously dies, Eliza is forced to set aside her disguises and take over the investigation into the man’s death. She has until the end of the cruise to solve the case or else another passenger will get away with murder.

THE CASE OF THE CHRISTIE HONEYMOON MURDER was a slow-paced, interesting read. Richard Hardwick is not the most sympathetic of victims, but his death behind a locked down on a small cruise ship means the murderer must be on board. There are several suspects among the Hardwick party, and they all have a solid motive. There were plenty of red herrings to keep me guessing, and the killer’s identity and motive ultimately caught me by surprise. It was also nice to see some forward progress with Eliza’s and Theo’s romantic relationship.

This book focuses on Eliza & Theo mostly, and Agatha is mostly a side character. Eliza and Theo secretly follow Agatha on her honeymoon cruise, where a very unlikeable character's death occurs. Eliza is suspicious that the death is murder, but it is determined to be due to natural causes. She keeps looking into what might have happened, interviews members of the man's family, and looks into his will to determine who had the most motive to kill him. Throughout her investigation, she and Theo dance around their relationship and have several intense conversations about their future. Eliza must eventually come to terms with what she really wants and uncover the secrets of the suspects at the same time before the ship docks.

This is the fifth book in the "Detection Club" mystery series which continues the adventures of amateur sleuths Eliza Baker and Theo Sharp. They are secretly accompanying Agatha Christie and her new husband on their honeymoon up the Nile to Aswan. Secretly because Eliza's sister Jane, the MI5 agent, suspects Agatha may be privy to British secrets and conveying them to someone on board the boat. This of course is hogwash, but our detective duo are present for a puzzling murder and use their usual deductive powers to solve the mystery, as the romance between them ever deepens despite Theo's duty to his family and Eliza's doubt about her life.

I highly recommend this book to lovers of "Golden Age Crime" novels involving a female protagonist. You will not be disappointed!

I really enjoy this series. Eliza is such a fantastic character with her straightforward personality. Her sister, Jane, ropes her into spying on Agatha Christie during her honeymoon aboard a steamer on the Nile. Jane suspects Agatha might be a spy, with her contact possibly among the passengers. The man believed to be her contact manipulates everyone around him, and when he’s found dead, it’s ruled a natural death—but Eliza knows better. Theo is helping her until a telegram arrives saying his father is on his deathbed, forcing him to rush home. Eliza realizes how much she depends on Theo’s perspective but fears she may never see him again. While dealing with his father’s death, Theo uncovers information crucial to Eliza’s investigation. Too many people had reason to want the man dead, and Eliza must find the killer before they dock in Aswan, or the culprit will slip away forever.

I flew through this latest installment of The Detection Club series - The Case of the Christie Honeymoon Murder.

Eliza and Theo follow Agatha Christie and her new husband, Max, on their honeymoon (unknown to them!), as part of a secret government investigation!

This series is the perfect cosy crime read, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every book so far! I absolutely love the characters of Eliza and Theo, as well as Agatha, and I’ve really enjoyed seeing the relationships develop throughout the series.

Full of suspense, twists and turns, this book kept me guessing right until the very end. 🕵️‍♀️🔍

It can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend picking up the previous books too - they’re all so enjoyable!

A fabulous read for fans of Agatha Christie.
Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC. This review is voluntary.
Agatha Christie is on her honeymoon when she catches the attention of the secret service. Eliza Baker is assigned to keep an eye on her but ends up delving into a family feud and a murder investigation.
Kelly Oliver pays tribute to Christie’s style of writing and crafting a locked room mystery while keeping her own unique flair. The method of the murder isn’t particularly original, but it’s the identity of the culprit and their motive that make this book compelling. The story features a large cast of colourful, well developed characters, and the setting of a Nile cruise offers plenty of historical detail. Of course Agatha herself makes an appearance making The Case of the Christie Honeymoon Murder a joy to read for her fans.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC!

I was surprised to see Eliza tag along Agatha's honeymoon, until I realised it was to spy on her for Jane's MI5 mission. As usual, death happens when Eliza/Agatha is around, giving them a crime to solve. The sub-plot of Eliza & Theo's relationship was more intriguing, because they had been in this strange partnership for quite a few books. Is there or isn't there?

Unfortunately, Theo had to return home in the midst of the crime, as his father passes away, he had to take up all the responsibilities passed on to him as an earl. The ending was surprising - but you have to read this episode to find out - no spoilers from me.

I am waiting for see what happens at Highbourne Hall next!

Another very enjoyable murder mystery. Each book in this series has a different setting, which makes them all very interesting. This one is set on a boat sailing down the Nile. Although I did think I had guessed the murderer in the beginning,' the twists and turns, with Eliza’s brilliance and a little help from Agatha' the story kept me guessing. It was great to also see a different side too Theo (no spoilers ). The characters are well written, and the storyline kept me turning the page. I now look forward to the next instalment. I received this as an ARC from Netgalley and freely give my review.

The latest in The Detection Club series, featuring well loved crime writers such as Agatha Christie and Dorothy L Sayers. This book sees Agatha enjoying her honeymoon when one of her cruise mates is murdered. Can Eliza and Theo solve the case?

Whilst I enjoyed the mystery (which felt very much like an Agatha Christie story with a locked room and poison), I did feel as if the Detective Club themselves were very superfluous to this tale. I hope from the ending that there will be a lot more involvement from Dorothy, Agatha and the others next time. I really enjoy the way Kelly Oliver writes, the books are easy to read with great characters.

Unbeknown to Agatha and Max, Jane has enlisted Eliza and Theo to spy on her during her honeymoon. They have have intelligence that Agatha might be handing information to another passenger on the Nile cruise.
When the passenger is found dead, there are many suspects in the form of his family and close circle that could have killed him, but the Doctor on board declares it a natural death, but Eliza suspects otherwise and sets out to prove this.
Meanwhile, whilst they are investigating Theo is called home by a telegram stating that his Father is gravely ill.
Another winning read in this series.

Another fun adventure with Eliza and Theo as they track Agatha Christie on her honeymoon. What starts as a plan to see if Agatha is committing espionage turns into a complicated murder mystery when an unlikable character shows up dead.

I really enjoy Eliza’s vivacious and inquisitive spirit, and her relationship with Theo is sweet. This started a little slow for me but picked up. I particularly liked that the setting involved the characters on a boat along the Nile.

Thank you to #NetGalley and #BoldwoodBooks for the ARC

Agatha Christie is on a Nile honeymoon cruise when the Secret Service notices eerie coincidences with state secrets in her new book, "The Seven Dials." Assistant Eliza must help clear Christie’s name while investigating a deadly discovery on board.

This is a fun story, with a mystery that kept me guessing. I like seeing the characters develop, especially Eliza's relationship with Theo. The book can stand alone, but you might enjoy the series more if you read it in order.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Agatha Christie is on her honeymoon on an Egyptian cruise. She is not amused to find Eliza and Theo, sleuths independently on the same cruise, though they are friends. Jane, Eliza’s sister has asked them to watch out for espionage because M15 feels that Christie’s last book and this cruise has too many coincidences. They want to find the spy in the midst of all these very rich people.

Set on the cruise itself, this closed box mystery is a mix of all that is interesting in this genre. Murder plus a touch of romance makes for a happy ending.

I have read the entire series and have to say i wait impatiently now for the next one!!!
The characters have been flushed out with each book and frankly i am very attached to them.

Excellent murder plot occurs set in the Nile. The clues were all there…..
