MORIGNA was the Witch of the Hills. Now the dark magic within Morigna threatens to devour her. Unless Morigna can tame the power, it will transform her into everything she has always hated.
MARA's father was a dark elven noble of terrible power. She escaped his grim realm, but now she must confront him once more, or join countless generations of his slaves in death.

Standing over six feet tall, USA Today bestselling author Jonathan Moeller has the piercing blue eyes of a Conan of Cimmeria, the bronze-colored hair of a Visigothic warrior-king, and the stern visage of a captain of men, none of which are useful in his career as a computer repairman, alas.
He has written the DEMONSOULED series of sword-and-sorcery novels, and continues to write THE GHOSTS sequence about assassin and spy Caina Amalas, the COMPUTER BEGINNER'S GUIDE series of computer books, and numerous other works. His books have sold over one million copies worldwide.
After fighting their way against terrible odds and enemies The Keeper Caliande has finally had her powers as well as for her memories restored yet they still have a long journey ahead of them in stopping the Frostborn. And that could be easier said then done. Even though they continue to destroy evil enemies Ridmark and his friends still have a long ways to go and it's been a long hard battle one that will not end except in the death of everyone if the gate is open and the frostborn return.

I found this incredibly hard to put down, and it had its hooks in me from the first page. The action picked up rather quickly, building up to an explosive climax that I swear started half way through the book and didn't let up until nearly the end. There was a resolution of sorts, which made me smile, but also a hook for the overarching story line, so I am very much going to have to keep reading.
I've been reading these back to back and I have to say i have really enjoyed them. The story is good. The action pretty much non stop and characters you can actually feel for. Books #7 and #8 have been my best in the series so far. I would actually give the series so far a 4.5 instead of a 4 if Mr. Moeller would have edited it another time before releasing it. The errors weren't enough to distract me to much from the stories but there were some missing and misspelled words I noticed. But those don't bother me because I'm on to book #9 and the rest of this great series.
I love this huge series even though the author gets a little long winded at times. I love the plot and the main characters in the story, rooting for them through out. Great character building has brought the story to life. I totally believe that you will enjoy this series also, Great Reading Everyone!
This was more of the same and a bit repetitive. Like the song 'Eat, sleep, rave, repeat.' Here it is shout, run, fight repeat. OK story and at least now you find out why Calliande did what she did so good to close that loop. Will be reading the rest of the series.
I loved this volume and I was so glad that Calliande was getting her memory back and how Mara was able to face her evil father and win, so it was a pay off of what came before.
If you've read one of these you've read all of them. In reviewing the 8th there's not too much which can be said that hasn't been said before.
A solid dependable bunch of heroes fighting evil fantasy fix. Whilst not the greatest work out there, there's yet to be a bad one. Add in that they're an easy read and they probably a go to for most looking for the group of heroes on a quest reading list.
Some great moments in this book. And I often feel whilst I enjoy the book, for all it's great individual component it's a shame it doesn't break into the top tier fantasy work. The ideas are top class, so it's a shame it doesn't reach the next level in terms of quality.
Repetitiveness probably doesn't help, albeit there were a few elements in this one which were new as Calliande finally nears her staff.
I do think the party is bloated now and there's a couple of characters in the group who they could really do without.
Overall though like all the others a good easy read that isn't excellent, but certainly satisfies that longing for a group adventure. 3 stars.
I read this a while ago and don't remember it. I liked the series but it didn't make an impression like Asimov, Niven, Mcaffery, et al, whose books have lived inside me for decades.
Great story but I may not be reading the next book. I feel cheated. The part of the story I was most interested in seems to have final closure. The love triangle did not end in my candidates favor so I am CRUSHED! Calliande made me proud but I feel the disappointment that she is apparently unable to feel. She came across as too good for human emotions. It isn't a noble sacrifice, she just let it go. She didn't even TRY! How was this a woman that faced incredible odds, raised armies and lead them to victory. But when it came to her own heart, she just laid down and rolled over for MORIGNA! COMPLETE nonsense. She followed him into the wilderness and she was brave and spontaneous but after book 2 she is basically just a catalyst for Ridmark to continue his journey. Mara and Antenora turned out to be more feeling than her and they are cursed and demon-spawn. Love the adventure story though. Very interesting concept. I really enjoyed the message of hope and faith. Notice I didn't mention the message of love. I shall cry myself to sleep now in Calliande's honor. Since she doesn't have it in her to do it. SMH :(
