In a desperate bid to save Lucy, Alex goes in search of the secret government facility on Apocalypse Island. If the scientists there created the virus, then surely they have a cure. Alex will go to any lengths to get it, even if it means risking his life in a building full of monsters.
A good book, but however the plot really took a turn for the what the hell is happening and characters I liked from the previous book turned to be quite bitter (of course, logical, if you know what happened, but still, it was their idea in the end, so they shouldn't go boohooing afterwards when poo hits the fan).
The book was also great in the creepy-and-OMG-I-won't-be-sleeping-soon-again-factor. If you thought mindless zombies (who I still see as smurfs, sorry!) were creepy, if you thought the hybrids were WTF, then sorry, you will be seriously peeing your pants with the new horrific monster the writer thought of in this book. Say hello to patient zero, or in other words, if you see him, just shoot a prayer and hope it is all over soon since you won't be able to run or dodge him. Man, patient zero is one effed-up monster that you seriously don't want to meet in daylight or nighttime. Sadly, our "heroes" will have to face him, will have to do something, because they have no choice.
And the parts were they were in the lab? Hunting for that ingredient? Fighting to survive? Dang, I just flew through those, though I also wanted to close the book and go nope nope and nope a lot of times. There is lots of gore, but also enough moments were nothing seems to happen until BAM something does and you will fly off your chair in fright. It doesn't also helped that the author really knows how to set a mood, and he also doesn't shy away from throwing around details that will make you get goosebumps. You can just imagine being in that lab. You can just imagine seeing the zombies, to see hybrids, to know you have to run or else!
Again, like I said in previous books, don't get too attached to all the characters, though I even failed to do that a few times. :( You just get attached to them, you just want them all to live and survive and find their families, find happiness.
The ending was really great, though I do have to shake my fist at the cliffhanger at the end! Arrrgghhhhhh. Now I can't wait until book 4 is out.
Oh I also have to give praise to our main character, I am starting to like him more and more. With each book he becomes better at surviving. Showing that he isn't only smart, but can also kick some butt, human or zombie. And I also love that his view on how he looks is getting better. From someone who was ashamed, to someone who isn't that scared to show his body. I love that this was added, it gives a lot of extra dimension to a character. To show that in a crazy world, humans will be humans, humans will think about how they look, how they speak, how they act, everything that makes a human human.
Well, I will be anxiously waiting for the next book, I want to know what happens! And I would recommend this book to everyone (just like I would recommend this series).
Gets better and better. Could not put it down! Enjoyed it immensely, the battle scenes and descriptions were graphic in my mind. Hero down to earth and normal. This is what I like the most, his infallibility.
Great continuation. I did skip a bit but overall I really enjoyed it. I loved finding out how the virus began and im looking forward to reading about Jax and Vass (hopefully) in the next book. There were a few little errors but nothing that took away from the story.
After finding Lucy and then finding out she has been bitten its a race against time to find the last ingredient for the cure . It means coming in to contact with patient zero. Can the group overcome the odds or is this the end for some of them .
Modern Military action against the zombies proves to be pointless
Modern Military action against the zombies proves to be pointless and the plot twists and turns in many different directions well written storyline and the depth of the characters is excellent
Really enjoying this series. Fantastic writing style that delivers snappy books. No faffing about. Characters are well developed and relatable. Onto book 4!!
Great series so far. I have enjoyed seeing the main character evolve. The writing and storey gets better with each book. If you enjoy survival /zombish books you will enjoy this. If you have read the first 2 books in the series you will not regret buying book 3.
Fast paced, entertaining, fun read. Shaun Harbinger is a skilled actionwriter. But he need to finish his "Undead Rain" series or to find a twist soon, because reading about Alex and his group starts to feel a bit worn out. Said in another way: Alex is not an interesting enough character to span his mediocrity through a far greater story-arch.
Great, Great, book! This is better than I anticipated. We now have Alex, Sam,Jax and the others looking for a certain ingredient that will cure the hybrids before they change. They also learn how the virus started. They also get to fight Vess who is the monster that started this whole mess. This one was harder because they lost more of their small group.
This series just keeps pulling me in! While I do like the characters, it is the story itself that is the selling point for me. Plenty of twists and the explanations fit with story. Keeps me coming back again and again.
The story line is getting even better. I can't put these books down. Every time I get the new book I have a sleepless night because I want to see what's going to happen next.
Another enjoyable book. I thought it was going to the last of this series but alas it continues. I hope the next is the last because the story line is getting away from itself...
