Very sweet book; this one was a selection from my book club. A collection of very likeable and relatable characters, especially Maya and A.J. and a lovely story, at times tugging on your heartstrings. I would recommend this to a friend.

This is, without doubt, my favourite book of the year. I laughed out loud, I cried inside, I didn’t want it to end. I rarely read a book twice but this will go on the small pile of to be read again, not soon but definitely when I need a lift.

What a charming book! I had been given this book by my daughter after her book club had read it, and it just didn't seem interesting so it's been sitting around for quite awhile. Finally I decided I might as well read it, and am I glad I did. It's a story of a young widower who owns a bookstore on an island off New England. He is rather a curmudgeon, but his bookstore is chosen as the repository of a young baby girl about 2, when her mother commits suicide. He manages to adopt the child and raise her, and eventually finds love with a literary publishing representative, and the story progresses from there. It's very intriguing and poignant and definitely a good read.

A heartwarming story of the influence great books have on our lives. But also the need we have to get out and love and live. Books have connecting power.
A.j. Is a bookstore owner on a small, island who is depressed after the death of his wife. A child is left at his store who he eventually raises. He comes alive as he shares his love of books with others.

I really want to give this 5/5, but I felt it rushed to an ending. The first half or ⅔ were brilliant, an easy but great read, well written. still a great book, but disappointing a little too.

I loved this book. Didn't know what to expect. A.J. Fikry was such an odd duck. After his wife dies, he is so lost and on the verge of being an alcoholic. Then Maya enters his life and everything changes. It is a make you laugh, make you cry kind of book. The characters are so well written that I felt like I seriously knew them. Read this book and you will not be disappointed.

I loved this book. Such a fun read. The characters are so fun and lovable, a few twists in the plot I never saw coming. Read it in Two days and will definitely look for another book by this author.

I was disappointed in the language. It was such a fun and moving story but the language was unnecessary.

Really good book and easy read. I didn't love how quickly the storyline tied up, after it took so long to be laid out. Otherwise it was wonderful

Very heartwarming book, easy to read. Longer chapters but in a short story format - kind of. It was lovely. I enjoyed tomorrow & tomorrow & tomorrow so much, so reading her first work was fun.

I have a Love then Hate then Love again opinion of this book. This book had a very promising beginning a grouchy, widowed bookseller, becomes an outstanding parent to an abandoned baby and also finds a romantic love again after the heartbreak of being a widow..after all of this, I was expecting nothing but minor tribulations to keep the plot interesting not , tears from myself and some of the main featured characters... but the ending was happy for some and save my review from complete disdain.

I think I enjoyed it but didn’t understand what the literary references meant at the start of each chapter until the end.

A comfortable story about a book seller on a small island. He is very cynical and prickly and becomes more and more withdrawn from society until he meets Maya. A small child is left in A.J's bookstore and before long he's adopted it. The baby and Maya bring A.J. out of his shell only to have A.J. come down with cancer and die.

Not a great ending (although there is more that I haven't shared), but a likeable enough story.
