A Cowboy For The Twins a story of motherhood. Shauntelle is a single mother of twins. She is very protective of them and her heart. Accusations, no one was blamed for the murder of Shauntelles brother. Mourning, Shauntelle and the family lost her husband and her brother. Forgiveness, Noah is building her restaurant and he wants to prove to her that he is worthy of her trust and possibly love. Collusion, Noah and her mother and the twins see feelings for the two and collude to bring them together while he builds her restaurant. Does it work? You have to read the book to find out. Enjoy. I received this book from the Publisher and Netgalley; all the opinions expressed in this review are all my own.

Absolutely LOVED it! 😍 Rebecca and Lantree kept me so engrossed in the story that I got mad 😡 if I had to stop. Melinda showing up had me scared 😨. That was a twist to the story that I could have done without but it all ended up as it should have. 😊

Good book. Rebecca has spent most of her life being raised by her aunt. Rebecca's mother abandoned her and disappeared. She grew up to be very tall, which put her at a disadvantage when it came to finding a husband. Her aunt was constantly telling her that she was too tall, too plain, and so on. Rebecca's only friend was her tiny and beautiful cousin Melinda. When her aunt tries to bully Rebecca into an unwanted marriage, she decides it's time to go stay with her grandfather in Montana.
The trip west was long and difficult, but Rebecca was determined. When she arrived in Coulson, the town nearest her grandfather's ranch, it was to find a place of saloons and bawdy houses and not much else. She hired a man to take her to her grandfather's ranch, but he ended up making unwelcome advances, then robbing her and running off. She was rescued by Lantree Walker, who turned out to be her grandfather's foreman.
Lantree has been working for her grandfather for several years. Lantree had been a doctor until losing confidence in himself after an epidemic wiped out most of his town. He is still very protective of the people he cares for, and is suspicious of Rebecca when she arrives. He worries that she is there to take advantage of the old man, and vows to keep an eye on her. He does not expect to be attracted to her.
The relationship between Lantree and Rebecca was very interesting. Their first meeting was pretty funny with each having the wrong impression about the other. I liked that they both found the humor in the misunderstanding. Both of them had sworn that they would remain unmarried. Lantree had lost his fiancee when she blamed him for not being able to save her family. Rebecca plans to remain unmarried to protect her independence, and because she feels that no one would want her anyway. Lantree's suspicions caused him to keep Rebecca at a distance until he was able to decide if she could be trusted. Once the mistrust was overcome, they developed a friendship.
That friendship began to change as attraction built between them. Both of them tried to fight it. Lantree is afraid to get involved with someone that he would feel responsible for protecting. He doesn't want to risk failing. Rebecca believes herself to be completely unlovable, and thinks that Lantree is just flirting when he compliments her on her looks or abilities. Though they have no confidence in themselves, they believe in each other. I loved the way that Lantree sees Rebecca's beauty and self-reliance and tries to show Rebecca the truth. Rebecca has complete confidence in Lantree's abilities, not just as a doctor, but as a man who can keep them safe. They still resist the idea of ever being married until their hands are forced by Rebecca's grandfather and circumstances.
They are forced to marry to keep Rebecca safe from those who would use her to make her grandfather cooperate with those who want his trees. She is nearly kidnapped several times. I loved Lantree's patience as he waited for Rebecca to get accustomed to their marriage. He has fallen hard for her, but doesn't think she feels the same way. Meanwhile, Rebecca has also fallen for him, but still doesn't believe in her own appeal. When her cousin arrives, Rebecca is certain that Lantree will wish he were married to her instead. Lantree has to find a way to convince Rebecca that she's the only one he wants.
I also enjoyed the bit of suspense as Lantree and the others fought off those who were trying to steal the trees that Rebecca's grandfather is determined to protect. The actions of the bad guys were quite believable. I loved seeing Rebecca stand up to them. The final confrontation was quite good and had some pretty amusing moments as well. I liked the epilogue and seeing how Rebecca and Lantree are doing a few months later. The addition of some new information about Lantree's brother Boone has me hoping that he will have his own story soon.

Rebecca Lane has been raised by a hyper-critical aunt who constantly reminds her that she is too tall and plain-to-the-point-of- homeliness. The aunt's one goal is to get Rebecca married off -- soon. Her own daughter, Melinda, is petite and lovely. Fortunately, Melinda really loves Rebecca and tries to soften the criticism Rebecca constantly hears. Unfortunately, when the aunt tries to marry Rebecca to the butcher (who views Rebecca as free labor), she decides it is time to move on. Although her mother left Rebecca with the aunt years ago and was never seen again, Rebecca knows that she has a grandfather in Montana.
After a difficult and worrisome trip, Rebecca hires a man to take her on the final leg of the trip to her grandfather's ranch. Along the way, the man steals her money, tries to assault her and then runs away. Her rescuer is the foreman of her grandfather's ranch, Lantree Walker. He has an interesting back story; trained as a physician, he abandoned the work when he couldn't save the people of his town from an epidemic.
Baring his soul to the man who becomes his boss, Lantree is very protective of the old man. He does not trust Rebecca's intentions. Part of the reason for this is that the old man's property, specifically the trees on it, are suddenly very valuable. The railroad is considering a line to the town and the mayor wants those trees to secure their town's selection for the route, versus another town. Could Rebecca be working with the people who are trying to steal, buy or beg those needed trees? Is that why she has suddenly appeared after all these years?
As Lantree watches Rebecca's behavior, he realizes that she does not have any ulterior motives, which is good because he finds himself drawn to her. Rebecca is convinced that she is unlovable and does not plan to marry -- who would want her?
But fate suddenly takes a hand in Lantree and Rebecca's lives. People try to kidnap Rebecca to use her as leverage to get the old man's trees. The couple must make a quick decision that will have profound effects on their lives.
Then Rebecca's cousin arrives; Rebecca has no confidence in her own worth and knows Lantree will be attracted to Melinda. During the story, Lantree's twin brother's name comes up. Where Lantree stayed on the side of the angels, his brother Boone went to the dark side. The law is looking for him. Note: This is the first of a two book series. Heroine doesn't feel she fits in with the aunt who raised her and her sister, doesn't want the future set before her, so she heads out to meet the grandfather she's never known. The hero is the foreman on her grandfather's ranch out west, and is suspicious of the young woman who shows up out of nowhere. He's a doctor who no longer practices because of bad stuff that happened. And through the course of the story, they find a place and fall in love while having adventures.

My Mom loves these Historical Western romances and there are a few Authors that I enjoy reading from this line and Carol Arens is one of them. This is a story with just a touch of heat (just a touch) but has a HEA which I'm a sucker for!!

Now I want to read the sequel to this, which I'm guessing will be Boone and Melinda's story. Or maybe Melinda and the lawyer?
