Benny is swept on a quest to save her parents, and binding herself to her agents is all part of the plan. Who knew it was permanent?
Benny has completed the XIA course that will let her work with the agents she became close to while hunting a serial killer. It will take effect the moment they are cleared of demonic influence. Nothing like knowing that your blood is despised to make a girl feel wanted. After a night on the town with Freddy, Benny runs into the agents, and they are not only hogging her favourite taco joint, but they are interested in her social status. She is about to say yes to whatever they can come up with when she gets a call from her house, and the night goes downhill from there. Karaoke, kidnapping and binding spells make up the rest of the night when Benny must head to the demon zone and Argyle, Smith and Tremble refuse to let her go alone. Nothing like jumping into a dimensional prison to lock in a first date.
Obscure Magic is one of my absolute favorite series by Viola Grace. It's hard not to fall in love with her! She's fierce, smart, powerful, and confident.
Note: This a slow burn romance with multiple partner m/f/m/m. The relationship develops slowly throughout the series . Thousands this didn't bother me, because it matched Benny characters to a tee.
One Part Human, Two Parts Demon, Three Parts Fey are the first three parts of a series An Obscure Magic. Full of creatures with their own magic signatures, politics and heroes and villians, its a great good start.
Benny is a journalist who loves food. She writes about food for her media network and enjoys spending time with her home-bound mother and father. But when the boss demands she join the XIA (eXtranatural Investigative Affairs) she has to spend a week riding along with three very tough, very different, and very handsome men. What's a girl to do? Especially since the latest spat of murders are centered around her and her family.
Turns out that hiding her very mixed blood and background was a lot harder than she first thought.
I thought this book was seriously fun! The magic is interesting, the characters fleshed out enough to be interesting but leaving some room for more books to reveal more. I've read several in this series, and it's a cool idea to have each book about a different community member, with the others as supporting characters in each other's books. THe length is a little short, she could have fleshed out some scenes, or added more to fill out a few more pages, but I still loved it enough to get 4 more in the series right away.
I read Under His Claw and One Part Human and was more then a little frustrated by the abrupt endings. So glad that Two Parts Demon had a more complete ending.
I like the books Viola Grace writes and really enjoy the ideas she has. The basic premise of her books but the abrupt ending of her other books very nearly stopped me reading any more. Very glad I persevered.
The story took a slower pace and it stalled a bit... Benny and her guys had to save her parents amd even preparing their rescue mission took quite some preparation, it went ridiculously well and easy...I would have like a bit more suspense or angst here. Still, I loved continuing learning more about Benny's family.
I loved this story. Benny and her men are fantastic. The interactions between them all are entertaining. The characters themselves were engaging. The storyline was enthralling and captivating. Can't wait to read more.
Starting to like this series more. Or just starting to like the characters more? Not sure really. But I really like Benny and her family. Can’t wait to see how her mates families react to this marriage.
Gonna be honest, I expected this book to be better than it was. I feel bad for her dad, he really got the short end of the stick. Good thing Benny solved it.
I found this book interesting. The plot was ok. The romance was ok. Every aspect was just ok. I have to admit to being disappointed. Hopefully, the next book is better.
Just like the first book in the series...I think the world and characters are great - very interesting and a lot of potential to be an awesome series. However, just like the first book, there wasn't really any challenge to the heroine. Her parents are kidnapped and her life is threatened, so she immediately comes up with a plan, everything easily falls into place, and there are no hiccups. She's not forced to think outside the box, she's not presented with any challenges that she can't easily just handle. I think the best stories are when the hero is pushed, agonizes over being able to save the day, is pushed beyond what she thinks she's capable of, wins in the end (but just barely), and learns and grows from the experience. This just doesn't happen for this heroine, it seems like she just knows everything and isn't challenged at all.
I was excited when I bought this book, then disappointed when I realized it was a preorder. Now that it is available, I immediately read it and was not disappointed. Things are moving forward with the lovely supernaturally mixed heroine and her men. This book has some events that seemed fated or planned or the result of luck. And some of that is true. We learn a bit more about Benny's heritage, meet Miranda, spend some time with Freddy and learn more about her, and then also learn about Pookie. And there is a kidnapping and rescue, a joining and a consummation, and a party. It ends a bit abruptly, and it's clear that there is more to come. Unfortunately, I'll have to wait for another few months before the next book.
There was something missing in this episode, I'm not sure what it was .... but, it was still action packed from beginning to end - so Kudos to the Author!!
I hope that little bit of "je ne sais quoi" is included in the next installment. However ... I'm still not going to miss out on the adventure and action - so bring on the third book!! :)
Loved it about as much as the first. The abrupt ending is still annoying though and the shortness of the book doesn't make me happy either. I just can't help feeling a little cheated despite the awesomeness of the story.

This was a fun entertaining read, book 2 in the series. After reading One Part Human, I preordered this ASAP. Now I eagerly await the release of Three Parts Fae, which I will also preorder.
