Many years ago, I took a graduate-level course on the history of U.S. Grand Strategy covering American history from the country's founding to the War on Terror. One of the assigned texts was the famous U.S. Army/Marine Corps Counterinsurgency Field Manual (FM-32/MCWP 3-33.5), and we had the privilege of discussing the military doctrine contained therein with its principal architect, now-retired Dr. Conrad Crane of the U.S. Army War College. Like counterinsurgency, spiritual warfare is a form of "irregular warfare" and requires not only endurance, resilience, and grit, but also wisdom, properly formed instincts, and a mature understanding of just how important day-to-day interactions are for achieving large-scale objectives to promote lasting change in a complex operational environment.

In Provide and Protect, my friend Dr. Brian Cosby has given men a field manual for countering the three-headed spiritual insurgency of wokeness, weakness, and compromise so prevalent in our society (and churches) today. There are many helpful books out there on leadership, personal discipline, work, and masculinity from both biblical and not-so-biblical perspectives. What sets Provide and Protect apart is its usefulness as a balanced theoretico-practical manual for how to be about the daily business of taking on the cultural forces that are poisoning and emasculating modern men who know they were made to exercise Christ-exalting dominion where God has placed them. As a guide for pursuing a truly biblical masculinity, I cannot think of a better resource out there today. May it be used by men of good faith to great effect in our families, churches, workplaces, schools, and commonwealth.
