Broken: The Silence Cycle Episode Two

Rate this book
After Daisy Reynolds’s friend and protector vanishes into the desert, she realizes one option remains: Leave San Diego for Branson, Missouri, and ask for help at the bar favored by the dragons.

The Shifters at The Land of Milk and Honey hold the key to finding her missing father, but they also have the power to compel her to spill her secrets. When threatened with an enthralling, Daisy runs.

But bad people take advantage of the threatened and the vulnerable—and escaping a very bad person soon becomes Daisy’s only option for survival…

Warning: While not graphic, the situations depicted in Broken are at times difficult and brutal, and for adult readers only.

Watch for Silent, Episode Three of the Silence Cycle, available October, 2014.

A short tale of disaster and terrifying experiences for Daisy, a quick read rated at FIVE STARS by the Schwartz Reviews.

Schwartz Synopsis:
Following Daisy’s tale from Bonds, she continues her story to Gavin, catching him up on her disastrous past. After running for her life from Burners and Fates she finds what she is looking for only to fear once more that her secrets will be found. Fleeing from the Land of Milk and Honey, the bar that the dragons frequent, she meets Aiden, the nicest Fate she has ever met. They begin a journey that ends in terror. What happens when the protection and answers you sought end up being more dangerous than the unknown? Will she escape the surrounding danger? Will the answers she seek be found before it’s too late?

“This man who had to be the human half of the Dracos was probably the most terrifying human being Daisy had ever seen in her entire life. More terrifying even than a Burner.”

Schwartz Thoughts:
Such a quick and short read that was extremely well written. Even though the novel is sci-fi/fantasy, the novel is written in a way that makes it all sound realistic. Everything happens in a fashion that makes sense, nothing is thrown in out of place, and everything fits perfectly. The characters are real and well developed and enjoyable. There are hooks at the end of every chapter that keeps the reader interested and reading. The pages practically turn themselves as you race to find out what will happen to Daisy. After reading this short read you are still left with a few questions, which just makes the reader want to pick up the next book in this short series. Which I will be reading and reviewing as well. Can’t stop now. All in all, a very enjoyable read.

“Run! screamed through her brain again. Just Run! Not look around. Just Run right now!”

I would recommend this short read to any sci-fi, fantasy readers looking for a quick day read. Pick up this series, you will not regret it.

Radcliffe is a very visually descriptive author. The words that she pens become a vivid scene in your mind’s eye. Her writing is simultaneously eloquent and snarky. Radcliffe throws classic style out the window, telling her wildly creative story in her own way and keeping her readers completely captivated throughout. The way that she combines history with the present and a whole lot of her own imagination creates a riveting tale that you won’t be able to put down.

I love the sense of Daisy’s character that you get in this novella. By having Daisy tell her own story you not only get to see who she is today, but how she got to where she is. Getting up close and personal with Gavin was similarly revealing. I found myself really feeling a connection to these two. You also get an intriguing look at the dragons, getting to know them outside of the Activation series. The sneek peek at the Seraphim was also intriguingly cliffhanger-esque.

If I thought I was addicted to the world of Fate~Fire~Shifter~Dragon before reading this novella I was woefully wrong. Broken took it to an entirely new level. I cannot wait to see what happens next!

Daisy's mother stole a talisman from Fates and they want it back REALLY bad. So badly do they want it back, that they don't care who they have to kill or what they have to do to get it back. Daisy is on a quest to find her wayward mother, her unknown father, get some killer Fates off her back and meet some dragons. I love Kris Austen Radcliffe's work. She is such an amazing writer. Her Fate/Fire/Shifter/Dragon series is SO good. I like her writing style, the pacing is spot on, the characters are interesting and well rounded. It is sad that more people haven't heard of her books. She is seriously that good and too many people are missing out. Ladon is in this book. Yay! Daisy gets herself into some scary situations and I was seriously worried about her. This book immediately draws you and doesn't let go. 5 stars.

Loved it As much as the first! Fate~Fire~Shifter~Dragon. What's not to love? This is book 2 in the The Silence Episode. I actually started reading this book before Bonds and it was still good by itself. The author has a way of grabbing my attention from the start with the way she tells Daisy's story. It's both sassy and smart. I can't even explain her writing style...bold and short sentences that grab you! I can't wait to read the next one!
