I believe that nuts get a lot of bad press in our modern times. I, for one, have always enjoyed eating them but I had a limited understanding about their nutritional value. When I saw the title of this book, I was immediately attracted to it.
Someone has written a book to encourage children to eat nuts?? Could this be true when we hear so many horror stories of children being allergic to nuts? When we see packaging warning saying ‘may contain nuts’?
And what a great book it is. It’s is jam packed full of technical information. There is also fun facts – who knew there was a National Macadamia Nut Day? Not me, but I just might put it in my diary and eat lots of those delicious nuts on the day.
This is a well thought out book that offers practical and insightful advice about many nuts. It also mentions the dangers of over-consuming some types of nuts. I found this balanced approach to be very useful and it gives me the confidence to recommend the book to my family and friends.
If you want to give your children nutritious snacks and avoid so much of the junk food grab a copy of this book and learn about nuts! You’d be nuts not to! - Sorry, I couldn’t help myself!
Review: NUTS ABOUT NUTS by Shir Guez (NUTRILDEN, #1)
Shir Guez is dedicated to improving nutrition in children, and teaching both children and parents, caregivers, and teachers the tenets of Good nutrition. In this first of her NUTRILDEN series, she explores in great detail the health benefits of nuts, the value of raw nuts, and how to avoid unhealthy aspects such as salt and sugar, and excess consumption. Any parent, grandparent, or caregiver will find NUTS ABOUT NUTS both beneficial, and a handbook to keep in the kitchen.
Many times I wondered what good comes from nuts. I love nuts and enjoy eating them, but had questions about their nutrition and how does it affect my body. This book provides many answers about nuts, where did they come from and how to eat them to enjoy full benefit in one’s diet.
This book is a great source of vital information for children to learn and enjoy.
This book is a party-pack of information and education regarding nuts. The author knows her subject matter and presents a strong case in the favour of including nuts into your eating routine. She selects ten different nuts: peanuts, almonds, pecans, pistachios, walnuts, macadamia, cashews, pine nuts, hazelnuts and Brazil nuts and expounds on their nutritional value in simple terms that a child can easily understand.
You learn that children under 4 should not be given nuts due to choking hazards and that soaked nuts are better to consume than salted or sweetened ones. Did you know that more than 2-4 Brazilian nuts can lead to selenium poisoning? I had no idea, but that is very important to know isn't it? And because I love bagels and cream cheese so much this fact really jumped out at me... crushed cashews are an alternative to cheese. Who knew?
The book also includes fun facts which kids will just love to gobble up.
*Did you know that there is a World Pistachio Day on February 26th?
*That the word for pine nuts in Tuscan is Pinocchio. Tuscan is a language used in central Italy.
* National Macadamia Nut Day is celebrated on September 4th.
This little book is brimming with knowledgable information for you to consume. The author augments her narrative by stunning photographs which make you salivate. The photos are clear, vibrant and visually tell a story all on their own.
I highly recommend this book as I am sure you will learn a lot about how healthy nuts can be and choose them to partake of as a very yummy snack. Let us not fear nuts but embrace them!
This is a great way to help adults, as well as kids, to learn the benefits of eating nuts, particularly the eleven types discussed in this book. There are pictures to help identify the different nuts, tips on how healthy they can be after various treatments like roasting, salting, etc, plus what vitamins and benefits are contained in each nut type. I highly recommend this book for its information and presentation.
Children's Book : Nuts about Nuts (Nutrildren - Nutrition for Children 1) by Shir Guez Have read the author's other works and have enjoyed the reads and really looking forward to this as it's about nuts and we know how nutritious they are in our daily lives. Book talks about nuts, how we can make them healthy and how they are made unhealthy with processes before we buy them. Lots of healthy information along the way about sun, sleep, eating right, etc. Very colorful photos help get the point across. Not only photos about one of 10 nuts but other facts, nutritional information, how many to eat, fun facts and which state tree nut, and which day is celebrated for the nut. Recipe links when you sign up for the author's newsletter.
Shir Guez’ short, informative Nuts about Nuts is designed for parents or educators to share with school-age children. The content may sometimes seem geared more for older readers – for example, “Betaine protects cells, proteins, and enzymes from environmental stress.” But the pictures and graphics are bright and clear, aimed, I’m guessing (from a waking bear), at elementary age. The book includes lots of information, including why nuts are roasted, and what happens at different temperatures. There was certainly much that I hadn’t learned before, so parents should be ready to enjoy and be informed before adding more of these nutritional treasures to their lives. Personally, I love nuts, so I’m glad I read the book.
Nuts About Nuts is an excellent book that promotes healthy eating through engaging photos and fun facts.
I am a big fan of nuts, especially pecans, and knew they were a healthy snack. I was anxious to read this nonfiction book for kids about this very topic. I am excited to say that I learned a great deal. The author lists the specific vitamins and minerals contained in certain nuts encouraging parents and children alike to enjoy them as a delicious snack. I also like the author's fun facts that give children more insight about nuts and the photos help readers identify each tasty morsel.
Nuts About Nuts is an all around great read. Any story that can encourage children to make healthy choices is well worth the read, in my opinion. I recommend picking up a copy.
I really enjoyed this ebook and I am sure that I had learned quite a lot from it! This ebook describes all the most popular nuts: Their nutritious values for our bodies, what nuts not to exceed in large amounts, the facts about Nuts even displayed on certain state flags, their even having some states that celebrate certain nuts as holidays like Fourth of July being celebrated, etc. I recommend this ebook not just for children but also those of us who are much older. These are my reasons for giving this book fife stars. I received this ebook. for freel and in exchange I have now given it an honest review. Great job Shir! By Angela
Wow.... you never stop learning! I found this book to be very fascinating and informative. I never knew of all the great benefits of the many nuts that I love so much and the awesome health properties of all the vitamins contained in each nut and what there uses are for our bodies.
I didn't find this book so much interested for small children as I would for older, such as middle grade and adults would benefit greatly. This is a wonderful book and well worth a couple of dollars, ask yourself natural or synthetic (man made)
I would recommend this book for anyone who is interested in a more healthy lifestyle.
I enjoyed reading Nuts About Nuts and learning some things about nutrition that I did not know. This book is more suited to adults than children, I think. There is a wealth of information that is important to everyone whether you like nuts or not.
After reading this book I will definitely eat more nuts for better nutrition. It is a good resource for everyone.
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book is written to teach about the value of nuts. The author does a great job describing the different kinds of nuts as well as their importance to the body.
