The year is 2030 and for fifteen years Katie Elliot and her husband Peter Mason fought alongside one another in America's darkest hour. Having been cut off from the U.N. they strove to defend their country against the onslaught of terrorist attacks,

Now 15 years years of marriage later, having been discharged from the army with PTSD and Peter now fitted with a prosthetic leg, Katie is locked up in the bathroom and counting down the minutes for a pregnancy test to show results. Three minutes until she sees if some of her biggest fears have been realised.
After a troubled childhood suffering in the slums, growing up with nothing and watching her mother suffer from the death of her father and sister, she doesn't think she can suffer with being a mother. She knows she is selfish, and sometimes downright cold. She's sometimes too much of a tomboy for her own good, preferring shooting pheasant and the army life than sitting down knitting onesies.

When she looks down at the test it changes her life forever.

She had no idea what the actions she takes would cause to her marriage. She had no idea that her who life would be turned upside down and she'd shut everyone out of her life. Will the gift of a little puppy bring Katie out of her living Hell?

Peter reasons that the woman he fell in love with and who saved him from succumbing to the nightmares inside his head, is still inside her. And maybe, just maybe, a hyper little ball of fur is the perfect answer to crack her concrete shell and bring a little bit of sunshine in her bleak world.

Can she fix the damage and fall in love with Peter again before they both contemplate divorce?
