How far would you be willing to go for your first love? Colin has broken every promise he's ever made, but what hurts him the most is the harsh memory of the way in which he abandoned the only girl for which he'd ever truly cared. After a summer romance in Shanghai with his host family's daughter, Feng Huang, he begged her to join him in America, only to fail her when she finally sacrificed everything for their future together. Shanghai-born Feng Huang has spent the last six years trying to get over Colin. Now beloved by the world as a famous pop star, she's moved on with a wealthy Chinese-American entrepreneur. When Colin appears in front of her at her boyfriend's gala celebrating her return to Shanghai, she is overcome by both the pain and love, which still linger inside her at the mere sight of him. Yet, nothing is as it seems, and when the sinister elements which have thrust them back into each other's orbit reveal themselves and threaten more than just their precious second opportunity at love. Will their stolen night together bring them the future of which they had always dreamed, or will Colin betray her love yet again?

This has got to be the shortest novella I've ever read! And, and, and, IT ENDED ON A CLIFFHANGER!
But, as usual, Chloe Barlow has a way with words and I just love her writing style!
Feng and Colin fell in love at a young age and then lost touch with each other for 6 long years. Now, Colin is back in her life and things are about to get interesting!
Shanghai Wind is another great romance filled mystery read installment of Chloe Barlow's Gateway To Love Series that I actually had fun reading. This novella is a quick/fast paced read that will keep you wanting for more because clearly it might be just few pages but the story is so amazing you wanted to punch someone because you will never know the story just ended when you thought it's not supposed to end just yet.
I was surprised though when I read this because I haven't known the characters throughout the series and then bam! was introduced to us by the author. However, I was glad I stumbled upon this book because I don't want to waste a good story and it will be a shame not to read this one. The excerpt says it all. Yet again, the author really have brought this few pages story an edge because there's something more than what's written in the blurb.
Overall, it's really good although I was hoping there's something more for this story. However, this made me think what will be in store for us in the next installment why she introduced us this novella.

3.8 Stars 2.5 Flames I have always loved Chloe Barlow and I seriously can't get enough of this series. The Gateway to Love series is perfectly steamy with a heavy dose of romance. Chloe's characters are always so thought out and well balanced. So it makes me sad to not give a higher rating. I enjoyed the story as it had developed but I think the characters could have been more detailed; I would love to know Feng more as well as Colin. I totally understand that this being a novella its suppose to be short but I am so used to being spoiled with Chloe's books, that I need more. I want to know what happened before and after. She did an amazing job however with incorporating the Chinese culture and how so many do not truly understand that art. I loved it but I just wanted more, as I've said I'm spoiled with Chloe Barlows books and characters I feel that so much more could have been in it. I am super excited to read the next one because it has Trey!! I hope to see more of Feng and Colin also because I know their story is just beginning!
Another great installment to the Gateway to Love series with this novella. Chloe was able to fit so much detail and emotion into this story. Great back story of Colin and Feng's budding romance as adults. Separated by distance and time, each makes choices that dad them to crossing paths in the future as adults.
Feng and Colin have a great deal of mystery that shroud their current day personas and we are given a glance into what will become our next book, A Steel Town .
I was so quickly drawn into this one and it was over way to fast! I cannot wait to read more about these two.
Oh my gosh. For such a tiny book this read was packed with intriguing goodies. Cannot wait to read more about Trey and how he moved on with his life afterward.
3.5 stars. I really enjoyed this story, but it was short and ended on a note that didn't quite give me full resolution for the 2 main characters (perhaps it continues in book 3). And because it was short, I didn't get a complete picture of what actually happened between Collin and Feng after Collin returned to the United States and resumed his old lifestyle and became involved with the undercover work that he now does. A lot of that was breezed by in an anecdotal way that left me needing to fill in my own blanks.
Shanghai Wind by Chloe T. Barlow was gifted to me in an ARC in exchanged for an honest review. I am giving this book 4 stars because Feng and Colin story was sad and fascinating the way they loved each other so much, but yet how the both were on different levels when it came to there love. Colin thought by pushing Feng away he was protecting her but all he was doing was hurting her. I mean Feng gave Colin something she could never get back and it would only belong to him forever. So when Colin ignored her it killed her and broke her, but she knew she had to move on with her life even though she knew it was not going to be easy, and even though they find there way back to each other it is not easy. Colin finally comes clean to Feng and explains to her how he as always loved her and always will, but will they both be able to finally get what they wanted which is each other. Because they both have to overcome things that are standing in there way of being together. Colin and Feng story is one crazy story but in the end they finally know where they stand with each other and that is all that matters.
Shanghai Wind A Gateway To Love Novella I give the book 3.5 stars.
Colin and Feng met one summer when he was shipped off to Shanghi to live with her and her family.
They got very close during his stay and right before he was to leave and come back to the US they slept together. They both were inlove with each other and didn't want to be apart.
Colin went back to the states and went thru his trust fund and ended up working for Lexis but I'm not really sure exactly what Lexis and her crew do.
Lexis has sent Colin to get info on Stephen Long by using Feng aka Princess Phoenix. Only this time he wasn't able to get in and get out undetected. Here it is, 6 years after that one summer together and Colin meets Feng and goes home with her. It appears Feng and Stephen are both CIA and were expecting Colin and are ready for him.
The book was written well but it just confused me. This novella did end with a cliffhanger. I'm sure more will be explained in the next book.
Trey also makes an appearance in this book and that makes me very happy since I think I love him and cannot wait for his book
I'm always impressed and in awe when an author can give a full story in such few pages; this book definitely accomplishes that. Feng and Colin have an innocently beautiful and relevant back story which lends tension and emotions to a current day intrigue. Past feelings cloud the present, as Feng attempts to put them aside and see Colin as the potential threat he is today. All these emotions lend to intense passions, heating up the pages, leaving me able to say nothing but 'Wow!' and fanning myself as I read. Feng's fierceness and strength is seriously hot, fitting perfectly with Colin's bad-boy ego and dangerous persona. And the ending!! Oh my goodness!! :0 :0 :0
I was fortunate to win an ARC of Shanghai Wind by Chloe Barlow which is book 2.5 of the Gateway to Love series and part of this collaboration. This part of the series takes a troubled teen overseas to Shanghai for the summer and love blossoms only to be left in Shanghai when he returns to the states. Fast forward 6 years and they are again face to face, but the question is what is the real reason they have been thrown together… who are the bad guys and who are the good guys. I love the twists and turns this story brings! This is a great novella and I really want to see more of Feng and Colin!
Wonderful teasing tidbits of perfection is Shanghai Wind! Chloe T Barlow's writing is magnificent and she knows how to grab her readers from the very start and keep them turning the pages to the end. The glimpse into Feng's and Colin's relationship in Shanghai Wind is just enough to make this reader salivate and yearn for more. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Shanghai Wind and the story captivated my heart. I carry a little bit of Feng and Colin in my heart and am anxious to read more of their story!
Shanghai Wind is a novella in Chloe Barlow’s Gateway to Love series. This story introduces us to troubled teen Colin who is sent overseas to Shanghai for the summer. While learning Chinese he falls head over heels in love with his host daughter and tutor Feng. Six years elapses before they cross one another’s paths again. Now, they are both involved in situations that make the reader question who is good and who is bad? This was a quick read that left the reader wondering what was going to happen next. I look forward to reading more about Feng and Colin’s story.
Chloe T. Barlow's Shanghai Wind (A Gateway to Love Novella) took my breath away! I immediately fell in love with the characters Feng and Colin. I read the novella in one sitting, it was just so compelling! The story takes you to a surprising journey to Shanghai and to the breathtaking love story of these beautiful people. Chloe managed to capture my heart and melt it once again with her beautiful and talented storytelling. The story had some really awesome twists in the plot that I didn't predict in any way. I would love to read more of Feng and Colin!
Loved it..When Colin comes to live with Feng and her family the last thing she expects is to fall for this American boy. Neither wants to let go. They're both young. What will they do? He has to go home. She has to stay there.
Years go by and Colin can't forget Feng. Now he has to face her. It's a work thing. She knows something is up. She isn't the young naive girl anymore. All grown up now. She'll find out.
So now after all these years what will become of Colin and Feng? Will Colin tell her what he's really there for?
What a GREAT little love story to get me wanting more!! I loved Collin and Feng, I cant wait to see what is coming next for them, and Claudia and Trey. I am eagerly awaiting the next installment in this fantastic series. This series is a MUST read! I loved the characters that she creates, and how everything is being tied together in a nice neat bow! I cant wait to unwrap the next book! She has taken a love story mixed with intrigue and mystery and came up with a WONDERFUL series. Jodilynn
The only thing wrong with this....IT'S NOT LONG ENOUGH! But what a set up for #3 in Chloe's 'A Gateway to Love' series! These new characters are exciting, mysterious, and full of passion and heart! I can't wait to see what happens next!!! Hurry Chloe T. Barlow...bring us the next installment!!!
Love Shanghai wind. It was a short story but I fell in love with it and with the characters. As always Chloe is really good at making you feel..can't wait to read more of these characters. Colin and Feng's story is full of mystery and there is some serious action.
This was a very enjoyable book that I finished in one sitting. The story will grab you and not let go until you finish the last page, it has amazing characters and moved along at a great pace. This must be read, you will not be sorry that you did.
There's only four chapters to this book, so don't expect too much from this. If you were expecting an in depth study of how Asian heroines react to being in love with a Caucasian guy, this ain't your book.
I enjoyed the quick read, there was enough in the story to be a standalone and I greatly appreciate it. The cliffhanger at the end makes me want to pick up all the books right way to find out what happened before and what's coming after.
