As a rodeo photographer, Hattie’s used to staying behind the lens — not becoming the focus of a bull rider’s attention. Especially not the charming, relentless cowboy who flirts with her every chance he gets and refuses to let her keep him at arm’s length.
Breken knows she’s different from anyone he’s ever met. He falls fast, hard, and doesn’t care how long it takes to prove he’s not going anywhere. He’s persistent and determined to break through every wall she’s built.
But loving someone means risking everything, and sometimes the hardest fight isn’t in the arena.
If you like an emotional story with a heartbreaking twist, the angst of a relationship breakup and the payoff of a happy ending at the end, then this might be a good read for you.
Unfortunately it wasn't the right story for me.
I didn't really feel a strong connection to any of the characters, to me the introduction of them felt a little rushed that made it hard for me to connect with them. I would have liked to see a bit more depth to them all.
A few things in the story also felt rushed to me - Hattie buys a camper after seeing it at an event and just buys it via text message without seeing inside it (if only I was so rich and carefree not to have any concerns about that!). There's a few jarring time skips that are not broken up from the preceding paragraph like I'd expect. Typically you'd put a scene break to show that both a significant amount of time as well as the location has now changed. One strange one was where Breken tells Hattie that he loves her with a beautiful big 2 paragraphs worth of professions of love - but all she does his hug him (says nothing back), and then suddenly the next paragraph they are in another state several hours drive away. It felt odd that she'd let him pour his heart out like that and not say anything (sure she might not be ready to say I love you back, but surely she'd say SOMETHING?!?).
Personally I am not overly fond of the "3rd act breakup" thing, especially when it's something that could have just been sorted out with 2 seconds of communication, and this book has one like that. I could see and appreciate what the author was doing with it, but the catalyst for the breakup was a downer, and then adding a breakup meant it wasn't an enjoyable part of the book for me.
There's an unexpected event that I'll spoiler to not spoil the surprise in the story but it could be a trigger warning for some people, so it's good to be forwarned... (it's also related to the 3rd act breakup). Breken's twin brother Now.... obviously he's not thinking straight (which is totally fair, you wouldn't expect him to be) and neither is she (also fair) - but she just does the "ohh so he really must not have ever actually loved me" thing and leaves... so then they are both unhappy and pining for their lost loves for a few months, until friends/family finally tell them to sort themselves out and stop being silly, and they get back together. I kinda just felt annoyed that Hattie would turn her back on Breken in his time of need, and annoyed at everyone for allowing them to break up and not saying something MUCH sooner... but then as I say, I don't really like 3rd act breakups anyway - so readers who do enjoy them - this is probably a good one :D
Thank you Morgan Fail for the opportunity to receive an ARC of Worth the Fall.
Hattie is a photographer for the PBR association, she loves being behind the camera capturing shots of the bull riders in action. Her main focus is her career, she is determined to never put her career on hold for a man and she will never change who she is for a man.
Breken is a bull rider who has his focus set on Hattie. He loves her sass and attitude. He is determined to convince her to give him a chance.
Breken will do anything to prove to Hattie that he is worth the fall. Slowly he breaks down each of her walls, lets her set the pace of their relationship. Hattie learns that she can trust Breken with her heart.
There are emotional moments, both heartwarming and heartbreaking. Over time Hattie and Breken grow through these moments.
Worth the fall is worth the read, worth falling in love with Breken and Hattie, Reed, Kieran and Layla. Worth the Fall is funny, heartwarming, and emotional.
Worth the Fall is a sweet romance that brings Breken and Hattie together when they least expect it.
The way Breken gets floored by Hattie, along with his flirting, had me smiling, smirking, and enjoying their connection. Breken was showing all the green flags of a cinnamon hero, while Hattie was sassy and fun. Reed and Kieran added to the laughter, fun, and warmth throughout the book.
Just when everything was going great, tragedy hits and everything crumbles. Grief and disappointment tugged at my heart as I watched Breken and Hattie hurt, only to end up hurting each other in return.
I was disappointed that they didn't fight hard enough for each other when they loved each other so much. Their need to commiserate in their pain instead of communicating absolutely frustrated me. Come on, you two! Talk to each other and fight for what you have!
Finally, I could sigh in relief when they got their HEA. You will find romance, laughter, kinship, grief, and peace within these pages.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌶️🌶️.5/5 Bring the tissues, you’re gonna need em. Worth the Fall had me gripped from chapter one. This book was actually my first cowboy romance and boy did I enjoy it. I laughed, I cried (a lot), I wanted to yank my hair out, and suddenly I have the urge to go to the rodeo? There are heavy themes in this book (death of a sibling, grief, previous abuse of FMC off page, attempted assault)- so please protect your mental health and be wary of your triggers if you have any. I truly enjoyed this book, despite being a sobbing mess for the last 40% of it. Something about watching characters truly suffer and come out on top is so fulfilling for a reader. Hattie and Breken have a truly heartbreakingly beautiful love story!
Thank you to Swipe the Book PR and the author for the gifted eARC.
I loved that Hattie was following her passion for rodeo photography, and I really enjoyed her friendships with Reed and the twins. I loved how they stood up for her and looked out for her. However, I felt like a lot of things were rushed, and we didn’t get to see her friendships or her relationship with Breken develop naturally. Because of this, I wasn’t as invested in their relationship as I wanted to be, and it felt more like insta-lust. I also wish some of the other events in the book had been given more time, as the way things played out left me feeling disconnected from the story.
Who does not like a small town rodeo romance? Hattie and Breken literally felt this attraction the moment they set eyes on each other, thanks to Reed who caught Hattie smiling at her camera while Reed was having a tough day riding the bull. From then, there was no looking back. Breken and Keiran were win bros and they had this rule of not be with the same girl and that was quite funny but sensible at the same time. Hattie found her family in these group of Rodeos. It was a feel good romance book which had an unexpected turn of events in the end. But alltogether I enjoyed it.
I had the privilege to be granted an advanced copy of " Worth the Fall" and what a ride it was. I was in a reading slump for WEEKS, and this was the book to pull me out of it.
I went into this book thinking it would be just a cosy romance, and don't get me wrong, it was, but it was, also, so much more! I had the time of my life reading about human characters that have problems, flaws, and real emotions.
Please go and read this book for a roller coaster of emotions!
