من المعروف أن بيلي وايلدر هو أحد عمالقة الكوميديا الأمريكية المبدعين، وذاع صيته كوريث لصانع الأفلام الشهير (إرنست لوبيتش) استطاع الوصول بالكوميديا المعروفة باسم "كوميديا الموقف" إلى حدّ العبث. وقد أثارت أفلامه الضحك بين جماهير المشاهدين على مرّ الأجيال، وجميعنا نذكر مواقف سوء الفهم المضحكة جداً التي واجهها الموسيقيان المتنكران بأزياء نسائية في فيلم "البعض يفضلونها ساخنة".

لا يمكن تصنيف وايلدر رغم هذه الصفات مع مشاهير المخرجين الكلاسيكيين للكوميديا الأمريكية، لأن أفلامه ببساطة لا تشبه أفلام غيره من المخرجين المعاصرين له، إذ كان وايلدر أقل "إنسانية" من (فرانك كابرا)، وأقل "تشذيباً" من (جورج كوكر)، وأقل "تجرداً" من (هاورد هوكس). فحسّ الفكاهة عند وايلدر مظلم وأسود ومقلق، وتلاعبه بالتلميحات الجنسية جريء، وحوار أفلامه غني بالمعاني الضمنية التي تميل إلى حد البذاءة.

ينظر وايلدر إلى العالم نظرة تهكمية، لكنه يعرف السبيل إلى إضحاك الناس، والحقيقة أن إبداعه لا يتوقف عند هذا الحد، إذ قام أيضاً بتصوير الأفلام الميلودرامية والأفلام السوداء (نوار). كما أن موضوع أفلامه الرئيس واحد لا يتغير، سواء أكان يصور تطور الأحداث إلى حد ارتكاب جريمة قتل، أم يصف الجبن الذي يغلب على سلوك رجل سكير، أم يتابع مغامرات زير نساء يفقد معاني الإنسانية على يد ممثلة شهيرة من زمن السينما الصامتة، أم المغامرات المضحكة للموسيقيين الهاربين من مطاردة عصابات المافيا، أم مغامرات الشرطي الساذج الذي يصبح قواداً رغماً عن إرادته. قد يصور وايلدر رحلة الطيار (ليندبرغ) أثناء عبوره المحيط الأطلسي بمفرده، أو مكايد الأمريكيين أثناء احتلالهم لبرلين في فترة ما بعد الحرب العالمية الثانية، أو مكايد مدير شركة كوكاكولا خلال فترة الحرب الباردة في برلين، لكنه يصور أيضاً الاضطراب الوجودي في هذا العالم.

سواء كانت شخصيات أفلامه تتظاهر بأنها فتيات صغيرات، أو نساء أو نبلاء بريطانيون، أو محتالون أو نصابون أذكياء، أو أصحاب الهويات المزدوجة، أو بائعات هوى - فعلياً أو مجازياً - فإن جميع هذه الشخصيات تواجه في النهاية لحظة الحقيقة.

إن كل فيلم من أفلام بيلي وايلدر هو عبارة عن قصة رمزية يصل فيها الإنسان السيئ إلى طريق مسدود يفرضه التواضع. كما أن الانتقادات الاجتماعية والأيديولوجية التي تعبر عنها هذه القصص بشخصياتها المختلفة تكشف عمق الرقة الدفينة فيها. فالبذاءة تبدو نتيجة حتمية للواقعية لأن وايلدر يتمسك قبل كل شيء بمبادئ الفضيلة ويسعى إلى رفع مستوى الأخلاق عند الناس.

Film critics can be so clever and cute. I especially liked this :

Jean Arthur and John Lund are in the room used to store compromising archives. To prevent the young woman from finding the file he wants to remain hidden, the man decides to seduce her. He opens the filing cabinets one by one, hemming her in until he has her completely imprisoned and can kiss her. The man opens the drawers he doesn’t want the woman to look into in order to prevent her exploring them. In so doing he obliges her to move her body rather than use her mind. So, with each drawer that’s opened, the woman gets further away from researching another woman’s compromising past and comes closer to a present moment in which her body will be offered to the man, who is using this trick to direct her while simultaneously making her the rival of the woman whose file she is looking for.

If I thought like that about movies I should probably be in a padded cell by now, so I will stick to a broad brush approach, thank you. Billy Wilder was great but he was not one of the always-mentioned big name Hollywood directors. He was very inconsistent. Some of his not good stuff is positively embarrassing. But hey, six masterpieces and nine worth-watching movies is a good score, and I’ve still got about five I haven’t seen. Lotta Billy Wilder movies.

This is just a gloss (100 heavily illustrated pages) on the great Billy Wilder's astonishing career, but it is not without interest. Let's say 3 1/2 stars.

بيلي وايلدر واحد من مخرجيني المفضلين لذلك شراء هذا الكتاب ونسيانه تمامًا ثم إيجاده في المكتبة صدفة كان أفضل هدية هذا الأسبوع
كتاب صغير للغاية، مسلي جدَا جدَا عن هذا المخرج، يستعرض بداياته وكواليس أفلامه ومعلومات سريعة عن كلمنها، والمحطات الفاصلة في حياة هذا المخرج الكبير

Aunque, por las características de la colección, el texto no es muy amplio recorre toda la biografía de Billy Wilder y es bastante interesante. Lo malo, que es general en este tipo de libros en los que destaca la fotografía sobre el texto, es que la traducción no está muy cuidada y hay muchos errores ortográficos.
