Bred for Love #2

The King's Command

Rate this book
Percy is pregnant. He is overjoyed, and Prince Edward, his master, and owner, is just as happy. Both men are content and are enjoying the simple life at Hartgrove, Prince Edward's country estate. There they stay in pre-baby bliss until the christening of the Cassian Dynasty's newest princeling approaches.

Prince Edward decides to risk King Henry's wrath, and brings Percy back to the capital to attend his nephew's christening, putting his and Percy's unconventional relationship front and center in the media and the court. Rumors abound about the two lovers, and a strange and unusual threat to Percy surfaces, leaving Prince Edward regretting their return to the capital.

Percy is confronted by the reality of his social status and what exactly it means to be the collared consort of a Cassian blood prince--and how dangerous that place of honor can be.

Caught between the orders of King Henry and the dangers lurking in the shadowed alleys of the capital, Percy and Edward strive to protect themselves, their love, and their unborn child.

Percy is pregnant and Edward is beyond thrilled. While they’d both love to stay at Hartgrove the christening is approaching and Edward is expected back in the capital.
Edward can’t stand the thought of being separated from Percy so he takes him with him.

I enjoyed this book more than the first one. While the first one intrigued me the sex/story ratio was out, well for me it was anyway.
But here it’s just right.
There’s a lot more story, we discover why Percy is so valuable and the lengths the King will go to in order to get what he wants.

It’s straight onto A Royal Rebellion for me now.

So Percy is confirmed to be pregnant and Edward is summoned back to the city to attend the christening ceremony of his nephew. Edward is in a dilemma whether they should return to the capital for the better care of his consort and the baby as well as attending the ceremony or stay in their country estate and avoid the wrath of his father.

Finally, the need to care for Percy and the baby won over and they returned to the city to attend the christening ceremony. The relationship between Percy and Edward is stronger than ever and Edward finally realized he’s already in love with his innocent consort. But Percy has a secret that even he, himself doesn’t know. And there are many people who’s trying to exploit from Percy. And the worst thing? The worst thing is Edward’s father, the king, is also in the conspiracy of retrieving Percy back from Edward. He not only doesn’t recognize Percy as the official consort not his son, he’s trying any mean possible to separate these two lovers and send Percy back to heritage breeders.

The story has become very interesting since the evil unfolded in front of our eyes. The king is not the person whom Edward thought to be. None of the things he knew seemed real anymore. And his father, his brothers and everyone except him seem to be holding deepest and darkest secrets. He needs to do something and do it quick for the survival of his true love, his baby and himself. Thank god that the world is not all evil and there are still loyal and noble souls willing to help Edward and encourage him right the wrongs of everything.

This series has become just more and more delicious. I love every book of S.J. Himes and unsurprisingly this one is no exception. The first one in this series was soooooo good that I was worried that the second won't meet my expectations. But alas, it sure did! So beautifully written, sensational story line and the smut is so hot and lusty that literally had to turn down the AC! Couldn’t love it more! 😍❤️😍

My love affair with Cassian royals continues! I loved this book. It was even better than the first. All that royal intrigue, spies, anger and murder attempts just make this book irresistible.

Edward is still the same: loyal, strong, handsome and overall a decent man. The way he is with Percy makes him golden in my book! Percy on the other hand undergoes a transformation from a scared and shy little thing into fierce man. He is still sweet and mostly innocent but when the danger comes calling he shows everyone that he is made of sterner stuff.

Another character was added to the mix - Captain Reynard. He was an unknown up until now. But there are many secrets that he keeps close to the chest. And of course the fact that he is a bada$$ delicious hunk of man doesn't hurt. I found out that the royal family is not what it seems and there are a lot vipers among them. The second part of the book held me on the edge of the seat. I loved it. Some relationships were broken some bonds were mended and allies were found in unexpected places. All in all it was a hot and steamy romance filled with action and intrigue. A most enjoyable read!

So much suspense!

This was a definite page turner filled with suspense and intrigue!

Told again in a dual POV Edward and Percy are at the mercy of the King, who has a hidden agenda and is determined to part the lovers - even though Percy is pregnant.

Yet another darn cliffhanger though (*sad face*)...which means on to book 3!

Mpreg.

I mean, what more can I say lol? If you’ve read my books, then you probably know I love mpreg. As I told Revella’s (who is also SJ Himes) personal assistant, mpreg is kinda a thing. But what really gets me going is when the science behind the pregnancy is explained and not glossed over. Trust me, it’s not as easy as it sounds. It helps to have a bit of a scifi geek lurking in you, lol. And that’s what made the book for me. The science is fictional, but realistic. Ahh, but that’s a bugger to pull off, and Revella did. In spades.

The blurb explains the setting clearly. This story is set in an AU (alternative universe) and there are genetically altered men reared in the labs who become “breeders” when maturity is reached. Percy, one of the main characters, is a breeder. One of the owners of Heritage Breeders created Percy for himself… and then the owners dies. Oh, but Percy is very, very special. He’s what they call a First Generation. And this becomes very important through both books. No, I’m not going to say why, lol.

Prince Edward has gone to Heritage Breeders. The prince needs to sire a child and doesn’t want a wife. In fact, Edward prefers males. From here, the story takes off. There’s action, intrigue, and evil plots to separate the prince and Percy. But beyond all that, this is a love story. Percy will win you over and make you want to cuddle him close. His innocence is enduring. Which, considering how he was raised and what his purpose is, is astounding.

The flow is fast paced and engaging. My mind didn’t wander. I was so wrapped up in this book, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on The King's Command (Bred for Love #2). If I thought the pace was fast in The Prince's Consort (Bred for Love #1), this showed me how wrong I was, lol. Percy is pregnant, everyone from the king on down is interfering with the two lovers, and Edward and Percy are being hunted and are on the run. Secrets are coming to light, but not fully explained… yet. (That king is either insane, or so desperate it’s scary. What he does to Percy… yeah. Scary.)

So… want a well-written mpreg that’ll engross you? Then check this out. I’m sitting on the edge of my seat for book #3!

Intrigue and Betrayal!

This oh so sexy series continues in this second installment. Percy is with child and Edward decides to return to the capital for his nephew’s christening.

Betrayal comes from those Edward trusts for the sole purpose of financial gain, and Percy is at the center of it all.

This one has less sex than the first, but more plot. I loved it!

A suspenseful addition to this super adorable series.

I do have to say that I’m never a fan of the trope where powerful family members (the king in this case) wields their power to try to split the couple up/kill them. But I still really liked this. I just want to put Percy in my pocket.

Percy was still as adorable as ever. And I really liked how I started disliking Reynard, the guard, but ended up really liking him. He would do anything for Percy or Edward and I loved him for it.

This ends in a cliffhanger of some sorts, so now I need to read the next book soon.

If you like a super duper uber cute and naive guy, a big strong man who will protect his lover at all costs, lots of hot sex with self lubricating holes, and mpreg, you might like this series.

HA! I knew money was involved somehow, as well as Percy's genetic design being the key. (My guess wasn't entirely correct, but not far off!) But still, the King seems a tad more rabid than seems necessary if that's all there is to the plot, unless the whole kingdom is mortgaged to the hilt. Hmmmm...

Also, I'm liking Reynard, even if his devotion to Percy (and Edward) seems a bit more personal than what his position would entail, or due to his loyalty to the crown. Mason is actually growing on me as well. He didn't have all that auspicious of an introduction, but I'm thinking there's more to him than meets the eye; like maybe his personality is a front, somewhat defensive, like armor, to protect his emotions/feelings/etc. I'm hoping we get to see more on that as well in the next book.

Something I didn't mention in the last review hoping it would be rectified in this installment: Lots of odd typos that a simple read through should have picked up. Well, it continued here...along with a continuity issue. In book 1 the Princess signed her texts as "PA" while here she signs off as "Ari." Neither anything an editor wouldn't clean up and the story is so engrossing that - for once - the errors only barely irritated me. Not enough to really affect the rating, though.

Definitely starting the next one ASAP.

*Also mentioned in an update for this book, Revella Hawthorne is a pseudo for SJ Himes. It figures I'd like these books so much when I really loved the Wolves of Black Pine and picked The Necromancer's Dance for a BINGO read.

Book two in Revella Hawthorne’s Bred for Love series, in my opinion, is better than the first! I didn’t think such a thing possible. I found this one full of surprises and more suspense. We get some answers that help us realize why Percy is so wanted.

Edward of course loves Percy more and more every day. As their child grows inside him so does their love. There are people on their side. And thank the lord for Abe! What an outstanding guy, truly. There’s another advocate for these two which sort of surprised me so I don’t want to say. But, these two can use all the help they can get.
As answers come more questions form and we see King Henry in an even more vicious light. I don’t think there is any redemption for his character. When he speaks to Percy or about him it tears a part my heart. He speaks like he is a computer program not flesh and blood and it’s beyond sad.

This story is progressing awesomely and ends on a bit of a cliffhanger folks! So be sure to have book three handy when you start this one!

You have to be cool with Mpreg to read this series as it is a HUGE part of the story and an element that couldn’t be told without it!

Again, although I probably shouldn't like it so much--there are faults like way too much crying by Percy (I get his sheltered past and irregular upbringing, but still), somewhat bad sex dialogue that didn't fit Percy's nature, some grammatical issues, only a medium amount of sophistication, etc.--I still adored this second volume, and love Edward even more now. Seriously am going to work hard on my black magic skills so that I can bring Edward out of the book and into my real life.

This second volume brings out danger, evil people, and some heartbreak and betrayal. We get away from the cocooned feel of the first book, and omg, does Percy grow into himself in this book! No more cowering little thing, and I could not be more proud of him! I was cheering him on all the way through. That's it, love, you stare down the king and lose your fear and anxiety. You fight for what you want.

I love, love, love this story. Don't know why, but something about it just gets to me at the deepest level, and I'm moving right into the next installment :)

Here we are seeing developments in different characters, especially Percy, who's growing and understanding more his values and the way the world works.
I'm really hating the King, as I can't understand his actions, same with the Crown Prince.
Already on my way to the next book.

I LOVE this series! And I want the third book NOW! What does "late 2015" even mean? November? December?

If you want a well thought out mpreg romance, set in the modern day with cell phones and technology, but not quite our world since there is royalty, you have to give this series a try! And the mpreg is all explained in a kinda-sorta believable way, and it just works. I just adore Percy and Edward together, I loved especially in this one how Percy really grew as a character, how he spoke up more often and called Edward by name. There was still a lot of crying, but I just kinda adore him, his love for books, and how he would amuse the guard following him around. Edward and Percy are also still smokin' hot together, but I was glad to see more action and plot towards the end of this story.

Also, I was getting really worried as we neared the end of this, that it wasn't going to be a good ending for the two, but there is hope at the end, nothing too, too angsty. I don't want this to get TOO angsty, (please, dear author, don't have them get caught and be separated in the third book haha), I want these boys to be happy! And Reynard needs a guy haha, he's a good character!

So, I will sit on pins and needles waiting for the third book in this series. Hope it won't be TOO long of a wait! Go read this series!

This was book 2 in the " A Bred For Love" series. Edward and Percy leave the Castle after the King tries to force Edward to give Percy back. When Percy gets sick they don't know what to think. Turns out he is going to have a baby and he is scared that he be locked up. Edward loves Percy and he has no plans to return him. The sex scenes in this book are hot. Turns out Percy is a one of a kind breeder and the head of hertiage house wants to clone him. Percy has feelings and emotions unlike the other breeders and he can give birth twice a year. I hate the King he turned on his own son for money and Malcolm Edwards older brother is going right along with him. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. This book left off on a cliffhanger and I am looking forward to reading the next book.

The plotting gets more twisted!

I'm enjoying this alternative universe with its oddly compelling sort of alpha/omega type mPreg with a twist.

The plots and intrigue is ramped up considerably in this one as Edward and Percy find themselves on the wrong side of a genetic money making scheme hatched by the King.

I loved that Mason came through for them and just what's the story with Raynard?!

Wow! This book really came together. I felt that there were probably too many plot threads at the end of the previous book and this book could really go in any possible direction, but the direction it picked was the one that caused all those meandering seemingly unconnected plot threads to coalesce into this absolutely thrilling plotline.

Considering, that the first book was all about the sex, this one is definitely all about the plot and frankly, it was really good. It did come at the expense of all that amazing sex but it truly delivered, so no complaints there.

This is all in all a great sequel because it has a thrilling plot, and I'm more invested in the characters than ever before. The one character who has grown the most from the first book to the next one is Percy and he really surprised me at times. He is a pretty vulnerable character by design and given his circumstances, he is pretty delicate, and these qualities definitely do not lend to strength but somehow, despite everything working against him, there are moments in this book when Percy makes some tough decisions and when he holds his ground. Given his history, these moments were so admirable that I was truly amazed at how far he has come. He's delicate and vulnerable but in some of these moments, you can see that spine of steel.

Also, I'm really falling for Mason, Edward's brother. He made an impression in the first book and he continues to make an impression in this one.

This series really seems to be getting better and I can't wait to find out how all this turns out.

UPDATE: BE AWARE THAT THIS SERIES ENDS ON A HUGE CLIFFHANGER THAT ALL THREE BOOKS HAVE BEEN BUILDING UP TOWARD. PER THE AUTHOR, THE BOOK WAS EXPECTED TO CONCLUDE IN SPRING 2016, BUT WAS NEVER COMPLETED.

This book had all the excitement, palace intrigue, pageantry, danger, and passionate love! In Book 2, Percy's pregnancy continues. His lover, Blood Prince Edward, and consort Percy return to the palace for the christening of a brother's newborn. Danger abounds. This book ends at a good place, but on a cliff hanger. All books in the series are available.

Most books don't dig this deep into my consciousness. So Bravo! to the author. I love books that entertain and provoke thought. Best of all, none of the weightier crap was spoon fed to me via the page. Ha, I had to think about it on my own. Even more impressive considering this is a genre (mpreg) that I normally don't venture into.

While I liked the first book enough to immediately pick up the second, this book had a much bigger impact on me. The characters really gain depth and growth. The plot is more complex and interesting. Best of all the story made me think further about the heavy subject of genetic manipulation and what that means in the bigger picture of society and personal rights. Humans have genetically manipulated living things since agriculture started, but as technology continues to evolve, techniques may be available soon to select physical, emotional characteristics like a multiple choice test.

The exploration of slavery was interesting as well. There are many types in the story; slavery to family, chattel slavery where the person is only an object, the population's response to manipulated journalism and paparazzi, slavery to technology, and how a rulers/society built upon that will/may go deeper into slavery to justify the means.

In the first book the overall view of the country lead me to think that the book took place in a benevolent monarchy. The view widens in this book to become almost 3 dimensional. As the character's understanding grows, the story slowly reveals a strongly held dictatorship. I love paradigm shifts! especially when I am the one changing my views.

Hawthorne did a nice job of creating this world. It was easy for me to step into. The technology is the same we have today from smart phones to tablets.

I think I could go on and on about this book. Love books that make me think beyond the pages.

Book 2 in the Bred for Love Series. I loved seeing Percy start living a life he deserves with love and security. Security that crumbles away because of who he is and horrific secrets being kept about the Royal family. We see Percy grow as a character amid intrigue and and determination to be rid of him. Never a dull moment.

Percy is growing as a person and realizing his worth. Edward’s possessiveness was a little concerning and I hope he tempers that with the people who care for Percy. Edward’s family, with the exception of one, we’re awful.

Edward and his collared consort are living quietly at Edward's property at Hartgrove, but they have to return to Cassia City when summoned by the king. What was supposed to be a happy family event turns into a nightmare when the lovers are betrayed and separated, both their lives at risk until an unexpected ally helps them runaway…
Oooh! This was really good. The plot thickens, and the real wickedness of the evil characters is completely exposed. Percy and Edward have to face unexpected dangers which test their relationship and the strength of their bond, which proves unbreakable. We discover some things about Percy, which put him at the centre of a conspiracy designed by the greed of some really heartless men, who will stop at nothing to catch and exploit the sweet breeder. Percy grows a lot in this book, and he shows a strength and determination which was nowhere to be found in the first book. Edward also has to undergo some radical changes to assume the treason and accept the help of people he did not expect to come to his aid. The book ends in a sort of cliffhanger…. I'm really looking forward to the next instalment!

😍 this series

Percy was designed with a purpose. He was special, designed with a unique purpose. Yes, he was still a breeder, a slave but he was also so much more. He thought, hoped, after the death of his master that he had been forgotten, left alone to live in peace. Turns out he was far from forgotten.
Percy is such a sweetie. I think he was why I initially couldn't put the books down. He is so innocent and yet something about him also screamed at me that he held a hidden strength that needed to be recognized. I enjoyed watching him come out of his shell, dipping into the unknown and eventually finding his rightful place in the world.
Prince Edward doesn't have to marry to unite anything. He is nowhere near close to being crowned reigning king. He does want children and to settle down with a mate. He doesn't want the red tape and headaches that come with a traditional relationship though, so he decides to look into a breeder. What he finds is everything he wanted and everything he did not know he needed.
This was such a fun and at times pretty intense journey.
There are so many twists!
Some were enough to make me cringe others had me screaming (no, sadly I am not kidding) at the writer to just STOP!
The relationship between Edward and Percy ~Perfect~ They accented the other in such a way that both became better for it.
And Mason - just wait for it. Don't hate him yet 😉
Action, Romance, Suspense ~ This had it all
I devoured the first three in this series back to back in one sitting
This is a blend of fantasy and Mpreg

This book greatly adds to the dystopian aspects of this world as well as further develops the story between Percy and Edward. The only negative I have to say is like many romances, the depth of their feelings develops in such a short amount of time. I’m not saying it isn’t possible. I’ve been there myself. And it fell apart as quickly as we fell in love. Yet, there seems to be something about Percy that makes good people, those who see him, as a person, immediately love him in their own fashion. Thankfully so far Edward hasn’t killed anyone over it, no matter how turned on Percy is by his jealousy.

It’s a nice touch that Mason is a noble character, something that was previously in doubt.

This is a good series and I look forward to reading the rest.

My main problem with the previous part is that it had no drama. I liked the whole but felt it almost too monotonous and boring on the edges. I wanted drama.

I got the drama in this part.
I read the third part as well and detested the drama.

My main regret is that the three books aren't written as a whole. They would have made a better story if they were not separated. They'd be worth reading as an ensemble, but separately they don't make much sense.

1 * star in comparison with the following parts, and for the disappointment.

I've said before that the reason I read these books is because of the porn, but I'm finding that the plot isn't as intrusive a I thought it would be.

After reading 2 books in this series, I would say this reads like fanfic, but in a good way. We have a combination of a crazy plot as well as fluffy emotional scenes and plentiful smut. It's nice a read something like this with original characters for once.
