People say your mother should be your first protector.
For Nyla, she became her first bully.
Growing up under a mother who saw her as competition instead of a daughter, every accomplishment came with criticism, every smile came with sabotage, and every dream was treated like a threat. While everyone around her insisted, "That's still your mama," Nyla was left to survive a love that always came with conditions.
My Mama Is My Opp is a raw, emotional urban fiction short story about toxic family ties, generational trauma, and the courage to choose yourself.
This is for the girl who just wants to be loved and to be told she is enough! For the girl who never heard I’m proud of you and I love you! This is the short story you need to know you are not alone! Remember you do not control the past but you can control your future, peace, and progress!

This book hit home on sssoooooo many level. Whew it was a great read for sure. I couldn’t put it down. I’m glad I didn’t judge too soon. I’m also glad she was able to find her peace in the end.
Loved this short read. And baby if this is not my childhood written into these pages. My mother is the reason for the years of therapy I have been going through. You cannot share happiness with someone that is only focused on the negative. Chasing love from someone you came from is a crazy thing.
Thank you for this story. My relationship with my mom fell apart when I was a teen. She wanted me to take care of her my whole life, but me not have a life. Not many black women want to say these things, so thank you
This book was a pick for messy Monday. I was not expecting this story but I really like this book. My first read by this author and I’m curious to read more books by this author.
