A co zatím dělají Gargon, Rufi no, Suz a Chris? Klidně spolu zakládají kapelu! Temný pán musí honem něco vymyslet. U devíti pekel!
3.5 stars. This was still a fun read, and my 10-year-old really liked it. While it did continue the theme of blurred lines between good and evil when the fanatically good use any means to destroy evil, I wish it had been better honed. My son and I were both oddly disappointed to see it setting up for a fourth book. This one really seemed like it should be the end -- we've had returns to and from the Darklands, side characters experiences with evil power, characters deciding where they truly belong, and now this was the set-up for a final showdown with Hasdruban (Dirk's main nemesis) to round it all off. The set-up for a fourth book as it's written now looks like the series will now fall into the pit of just adding wacky adventures rather than following a longer story arch like it's mostly done so far.
Although, I think this book is made for kids around the age of twelve, I really enjoyed it. Just the fact that the main hero is actually a bad guy guarantees book's succes. This piece just had it all: humor, action and a tiny tiny bit of love.
I read the first Dark Lord book in 2011 under the pretence of testing it out as presents for children of relatives and friends, being familiar with the author’s excellent gamebook exploits of a few decades earlier. I thought it highly enjoyable and amusing and purchased all the sequels on the strength of the first one, all of which were also excellent, especially the second one.
Roll on a decade and I’ve completed reading them to my son aged five, who enjoyed them as much as I did, or perhaps even more so, given he spent some time afterwards developing his own Dark Lord spells. Even Mum, who had reservations at the start (there perhaps being a few, easily skipped, darker elements for a child of that age), soon warmed to matters and chuckled quietly away to herself through most of it, especially every time my son repeated the Dark Lord’s signature laugh (replete with superfluous additional “Ha”).
This series may not be as well known as some of its peers and the author is not famous like others, but in my opinion it’s the most well written, humorous, intelligent and imaginative children’s series out there, deserving of the Roald Dahl award that was bestowed upon it. We’re also just finishing the same author’s excellent Starship Captain series, especially recommended if you like the idea of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy for kids.
Honestly, I didn't really enjoy this book. It just seemed to get more and more stupid and wasn't fun to read anymore. I did want to read the whole series of Dark Lord books, but now I wish I'd just kept to the first two which I read when I was younger. This book may have ruined the whole series for me.
This is the third and final book in the dark lord series. In this book, the white wizard becomes the headmaster at dirks school. He tries to kill dirk, but dirk foils all of the white wizards plans. The three friends find a wa to move between earth and the dark lands easily so they visited every weekend. Also, dirk befriends the white wizard and there are no longer any wars taking place in the dark lands.
A bit of an anticlimax, really, with things being wrapped up in the last 20 or so pages, leaving it feel rushed, which is a shame, as the book / series could have become the anti-Harry Potter ( and I mean that in a good way... ).
