A conscienceless serial bomber has a game to play. The rules are simple. There are none.
Somebody knows Detective Amanda Nettles more than she cares to acknowledge. With one phone call, a faceless and genderless madman, proves he knows every dark secret Amanda has—even those she’s never uttered to a soul.
Two explosions have rocked downtown Charlotte and shaken its citizens. All the clues lead back to Amanda. With the FBI—namely Baker Jackson Robinson watching her every move, Amanda must figure out the why behind the madness, because this guy is coming after them. One-by-one. And he wants her to witness every detail.
Robinson’s life has never been simple. Prior to his sister’s comatose state, he preferred the chaos and the danger if it meant saving a life. Raising a pre-teen dependent on him, alone, means he needs to skirt around danger, aka—Amanda Nettles. The attractive and unavailable detective is trapped in play only their perpetrator understands. And he's using those closest to Amanda as bait.
With each new event, Amanda must make a choice. Follow her heart, protect her friends and lose the life she's built for herself or sit on the sidelines and watch someone else destroy it. The last thing she intends to do, is involve the one man who understands her, in a way no one has before. Because Robinson isn't the type to walk away from a fight that matters. And she won’t stop looking for answers just because they aren't readily available.
If only her feelings for the handsome Agent would disappear... And his need for the Detective's sassy comebacks, wasn't so strong... The clock wouldn't be ticking. With innocent lives in the balance.
Rachel began weaving tales well before she could actually write. Those early stories included danger and mystery, sensational heroes, and their villainous counterparts. Sometimes the hero had to time warp through a hole in her backyard to save the damsel in distress, and sometimes he only had to outwit the villain with a clever plan.
When she’s not riveting readers with the challenges and spiritual growth of her characters’ lives, she can be found poolside with her husband, daughter, a cool cat, and a snuggly and loyal dog. She enjoys football (once upon a time, her spiral was pretty decent), reading, creating graphics, being involved at church, spending time with family and friends, and exploring the mysteries of the unseen world.
What a phenomenal adrenaline-laced book that had me turning page after page! I truly loved the characters and their tongue-in-cheek quips. The dialogue really added to the story and the characters were definitely not one-dimensional! I have read a lot of books and this book had a great story, had great characters, and flowed effortlessly. Ms. Trautmiller is a great storyteller! I really wanted to give it five stars but as it is a Christian book I expected no coarse language or swearing. I tried overlooking a couple of words but the last half of the book had more of them. Also, I would have thought there would be more Christian references but there were not--it felt more like a cleaner secular book. With that being said, however, it was still a great story, and I look forward to reading more from Ms. Trautmiller!
Thank you to the author for allowing me to review this book--the opinions and thoughts are my own.
What a great read! One of my favorite things in a book is a strong heroine. Amanda Nettles is not just strong - she's sassy, courageous, and smart. I also like a heroine with a sense of humor. DISCONNECT by Rachel Trautmiller didn't disappoint here either. I loved reading the teasing banter between Amanda and Robinson. And I love books that keep me turning pages and guessing until the very end. DISCONNECT is certainly one of those. A mysterious bomber seems to know Amanda's deepest secrets and fears - even those she wouldn't admit to herself - and threatens not only her life but also those of the people she loves, and the lives of innocent people she's never met. With so much at stake, Amanda and Robinson race against the clock to stop the villain before it's too late... DISCONNECT is an awesome book, and I look forward to reading the next book by Rachel Trautmiller!
Disconnect Bening Files book 2 by Rachel Trautmiller continues the roller coaster, heart pumping action.Readers can read this book as a stand alone but reading Book 1 will increase the enjoyment and experience. Detective Amanda Nettles finds herself a suspect in a series of bombings but knows the true perp is someone that knows the intimate details of her life. Enter SAC Robinson of the FBI to assist but her growing attraction to this handsome agent hampers their working relationship. This book will be a favorite among suspense aficionados that love a little dose of romance thrown in to sweeten the pot. I look forward to book 3 of the series and any book by Rachel Trautmiller. A copy of this book was given in exchange for an honest review.
There are not enough words to describe how GREAT this book is. The plot contains so many twists and turns you won't know who the good guys are and who the bad guys are until the very end. The storyline kept me wanting more and I had a hard time putting this book down, but yet was very sad when it was done. This is a great series and am looking forward to the next!
This book is a page turner! It is full of suspense, mystery and intrigue! I didn't want to put the book down. I love the characters. Book two is just as good as book one. The books are very well written. I was given a copy of the book to read and to provide an honest review.
Oh my goodness, what a thriller of a read. Very strong female heroine who puts others safety well above her own. There is a hint of love story but she already has a boy friend. How will this work out?? Read the book and find out. Can stand alone, but reading book 1 could help. Highly recommend this book.
I liked the characters in this story. They are well-developed, interesting, funny and hard-working agents. I originally received this story as part of a bundle and I didn't realize that it was Book 2 in a Series. I am normally a bit anal in reading Series as I always want to read Book 1 first, and because I didn't, I found it a little harder to place all the characters in the beginning, having said that, the author did a great job of detailing and describing the backgrounds and the book can be enjoyed as a stand-alone.
I enjoyed the sassy interplay between Agent Amanda Nettles and Agent Baker Jackson Robinson and the solid partner equality between the Benings. What I found confusing at times was trying to keep track of everything that was going on, and believe me, there was a lot going on in this story - couple relationships, family relationships, sibling rivalry, medical issues, police and FBI politics, terrorism, fear, deceit, and, of course, mystery.
I certainly would be very interested in reading other books by Rachel Trautmiller in this Series or any other ones. I did originally receive this book free in exchange for a review before the bundle was removed from the ebook shelves.
WARNING: Don't start this book unless you are in a position to keep reading because once you start it, you won't want to put it down. I really enjoyed the first book in this series and this one was just as good and can be read as a standalone. It was good to pick back up with the characters from Linked, the first book in the series. This book is packed with action, suspense and a good romance. I was given an e-book copy of this book in return for an honest review. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good action packed read.
Warning!!!! You won't be ale to stop reading this amazing book. The obstacles that threaten Amanda and her friends lives are extremely crazy, you will be on the edge of your seat waiting to see what terrible thing happens to her next. The way Amanda and Robinson connect and work together is amazing. This story will have you laughing and in tears the next moment. The love Amanda has for her friends and family is truly beautiful.. I had the honor to review this amazing book for the author.
Great storytelling in this romantic suspense novel! I was pleasantly surprised to find myself so drawn into the story. It's a long one (really long) but I eagerly read on to find out who was behind the threats and attacks. The love story that unfolds is an integral part of the plot, and was really well written. I enjoyed it very much and look forward to reading another of Rachel's books in the future.
This is a blistering fast-paced, high octane story that has suspense and excitement in spades. Don't start reading it unless you have some time – because you are going to have a difficult time putting it down. DISCONNECT features a strong, well-written heroine, and is far from predictable. If you enjoy mysterious crime fiction, you owe it to yourself to pick this one up today.
I enjoyed reading this book. I could not figure out the plot until the last couple of pages. It kept me wanting to read to the end. Very enjoyable. Thank you.
This is a great clean read Romantic Suspense novel. It is the second book in a series and is best read after book one called "Linked." This book can stand alone but it helps to know a lot of stuff about several of the key characters that's revealed in the first book of the series. The relationship between the lead characters, FBI SAC Baker Jackson Robinson and CMPD Detective Amanda Nettles, sizzles and crackles and pops and thoroughly entertains. The plot thickens and twists and captivates from start to finish.
